Guest guest
I read an article from a Doctor recenly. He believes hypothyroidism is responsible for many autoimmune diseases. you mentioned that you feel cold. have you checked your T3, T4 and THS? sometimes blood tests are normal but thyroid is not fully functioning. Coconat oil helps thyroid to function better. I have started taking half teaspoon organic vigin coconat oil every morning. I feel much less cold. I bought it from health store, it tastes great and its label says zero trans fat and chlostrol. If you have high chlostrol it is better you consult with your doctor first. soheila > >I started on Minicycline in July, and it is working. I take 200 mg >every night. Guest guest
I don't know if 'responsible' is the right word, but for me, hypothyroidism is STRONGLY related to arthritic symptoms. In my experience, the doctors are not good catching thyroid problems, because they like to rely on TSH, which is not a thyroid hormone. In my case, the docs didn't figure it out for a very long time, and until they understood that the TSH was not indicating there was a problem with my actual thyroid hormones (ft3 and ft4). Basically, as long as I keep my ft3 near the top of the lab range, and as long as I use dessicated thyroid medication, I no longer have arthritic symptoms. My rheumy doesn't understand this. It seems to me, that it isn't only hypothyroidism that can be related to autoimmune diseases. But also other skewed hormones. Recall on this list who spoke of how much improved his wife became after her doctor put her on bioidentical hormones. Amy soheila A wrote: > > > I read an article from a Doctor recenly. Guest guest
You beat me with asking that question. I have never heard of them. Guest guest
If you are having a problem getting dessicated thyroid medication, check with a local compounding pharmacy and see if they can make up an equivalent for you. I just heard from someone in Michigan who couldn't get Armour thyroid. Her doctor called in a prescription to this compounding pharmacy. http://www.medaus.com/index.php?option=com_content & view=article & id=3 & Itemid=4 Ethel Re: rheumatic T Mona: Minocycline working - Still stiff in the morning though >I don't know if 'responsible' is the right word, but for me, > hypothyroidism is STRONGLY related to arthritic symptoms. > > In my experience, the doctors are not good catching thyroid problems, > because they like to rely on TSH, which is not a thyroid hormone. Guest guest
Thanks, Ethel. The shortage has been such a pain in the A**.for me. I had to switch to the synthetic t4/t3 stuff & have had problems ever since. At the moment, I'm trying to get a script for the Canadian brand, Erfa Thyroid. This is because I'm reading a good number of emails from people who are happy with the brand and it's price. It's far less expensive than what Forest Pharma charged for Armour. I just emailed my doctor & he will be sending me a script for Erfa. Guest guest
Who can say for sure, but it does seem that AI problems creep up for many women who enter perimenopause (usually in 40's). Plus I just read a paper that argues that the hormonal changes during perimenopause strongly changes immunity. The known changes that occur during menopause is that progesterone is the first to drop low, while estrogen drops at a slower pace. Often, thyroid levels drop as well, but not enough for doctors to prescribe anything. It gets more complicated, because each hormone interacts with others. For example, hormones send messages to the brain, which will respond back with it's own signal hormones. I have my hormones tested all the time & it shows 1) My DHEA, Testosterone, Progesterone are all at the bottom of the lab range. 2) My thyroid no longer makes thyroid hormones at all 3) my pituitary does not emit TSH (a hormone) as it should. I requested a pituitary scan, and the results didn't show anything wrong. 4) it's speculated the problem lies in the hypothalamus, which tells the pituitary what to do. Hormones are very individual. What works for one doesn't work for another. I've tried many, but the only one I notice big benefits from are thyroid. I take progesterone (when I remember) because my test results are low, & I don't have any negative reactions from it. I like some testosterone (gives me energy), but it makes me bigger, so I limit my use of that. Mainstream doctors know nothing about hormones because they don't teach it in med school. Alternative docs have more education about it. The reason my thyroid problem was undiagnosed for so long is because mainstream doctors (including endocrinologists) have very little understanding of hormonal downstream. Guest guest
The author of this article, Barrett, presents numerous, erroneous positions. As one example, he claims that bioidentical hormones are non-uniform in content and lack quality control. Ignorant that he is, he assumes that bioidentical means that it comes from compounding pharmacies rather than big pharma companies. Typical of his ignorance, he doesn't even realize that most of the bioidentical hormones are FDA controlled. This guy gets his funding from pharmaceutical giants, and spends his life denigrating supplements. If you don't already know, he is very much against ANYTHING related to alternative medicine. He goes after doctors who practice alternative medicine. Dr. Barrett has been the subject of many a lawsuit, various medical license failures and has himself been called a quack by too many to name. However, here are a few, who describe Barrett's legal problems and their battles with him: http://www.raysahelian.com/quackwatch.html http://www.mnwelldir.org/docs/editorial/quack.htm http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=567052 http://www.quackpotwatch.org/ Rick, I truly hope that you will read just a few of these. His 'work' is very much against groups like this one. Guest guest
Barrett has attacked some of the most successful alternative therapies in the world. He has issued threats and initiated lawsuits, and until last year, got away with all of it. Then, his world began to crumble. Barrett filed a lawsuit against King Bio Pharmaceuticals, makers of homeopathics. Now, science has already established the value of homeopathy, but Barrett, ignoring science while pandering to the pharmaceutical industry, just had to do something. The result? Here is an excerpt from the judge's decision: As for his credential as an expert on FDA regulation of homeopathic drugs, the Court finds that Dr. Barrett lacks sufficient qualifications in this area. Expertise in FDA regulation suggests a knowledge of how the agency enforces federal statutes and the agency's own regulations. Dr. Barrett's purported legal and regulatory knowledge is not apparent. He is not a lawyer, although he claims he attended several semesters of correspondence law school. While Dr. Barrett appears to have had several past conversations with FDA representatives, these appear to have been sporadic, mainly at his own instigation, and principally for the purpose of gathering information for his various articles and Internet web-sites. He has never testified before any governmental panel or agency on issues relating to FDA regulation of drugs. Presumably his professional continuing education experiences are outdated given that he has not had a current medical licence [sic] in over seven years. For these reasons, there is no sound basis on which to consider Dr. Barrett qualified as an expert on the issues he was offered to address. Moreover, there was no real focus to his testimony with respect to any of the issues in this case associated with Defendants' products.' The rest of this story may be read at: http://www.mnwelldir.org/docs/editorial/quack.htm EAN_29209 wrote: > > > http://www.pharmwatch.org/strategy/bioidentical.shtml > <http://www.pharmwatch.org/strategy/bioidentical.shtml> > > > > > > > > > > > I read an article from a Doctor recenly.
