Guest guest
Thanks, I have spoken with multiple pharmacists and was even sent to a pharmacological expert. and I basically only drink water (some coffee & V8-but not with the meds as I am aware of those issues) There is definitely something off when I tried to do B12 oral supplements they had no effect & only injections worked, it is very frustrating and most people do not understand as there is no real outward visible issues Pamela Arnow 847-774-6474 create1126@... It is to say the least a pain! May I gingerly suggest (not wanting to appear to be some sort of expert because I definitely am not) that you ask your pharmacist (or doctor) about your medications, for instance: It has been found that grapefruit and other common fruit juices, including orange and apple, can substantially decreasing the absorption of certain medications, potentially wiping out their beneficial effects, or for instance some people take their meds with with a glass of milk not knowing that calcium/dairy negates the effectiveness of the antibiotics. Guest guest
No not at all, alot of people would not know all of that and your info can be helpfull. I just have been through so much already and I tend to research everything to its fullest. Interestingly it was the Pharmacological specialist that said to me when I walked into his office " You have some kind of autoimmune - not Fibro-I would bet on it " - He was absolutely correct. We had not really run many tests since my original diagnosis 18 yrs ago. And AS (HLB27) is usually in men so they do not routinely test women for it But my symptoms changed also around a year and a half ago as well. What are you dealing with? Guest guest
I've heard of this before. I don't understand it but there are some who seem to feel a big difference from injecting b-12. I am using sublingual methyl form, and that seems to be going OK. If you are having trouble with b-12, there may be other nutrients that are also issues. Guest guest
the last time I took the b-12 shots I had a reaction to it, not funny when you look like you are drunk. Guest guest
Hi Pam, It seems you & I are on the same page, meaning we do our own research & have no problem approaching our Dr's/medical teams for their input .. I have a rare disease & both my pharmacist & regular Dr were interested enough to do their own research on it (as they hadn't heard of it before) so we have some good discussions about it, my chosen method of treatment & progress. I have a definite diagnosis of PS, (palindromic syndrome or palindromic arthritis) & a little bit of maybe? RA & Fibro thrown in with a dash of Australian Lyme (not to be confused with the dreaded USA lyme). (I don't have anywhere near enough symptoms to definitely diagnose RA or Fibro, but do have the dreaded bacteria in my system of Lyme thanks to a tick bite some 31 yrs ago). PS is a very strange disease, a flare may or may not include inflammation, can be & usually is excruciatingly painful & moves from one part of the body to another it doesn't necessarily attack the joints but can present itself as attacking the muscles & soft tissue. The usual pain meds & anti-inflams don't work. When I approached an AP Dr to ask about treatment she didn't know if AP would work for PS but after lengthy discussion (which included her consulting colleagues in USA & Germany for their opinion) agreed to at least try & use me as a sort of guinea pig .. It took a while to get the right mix/strengths of abx but finally sorted that out in Sep last year & I have been asymptomatic since late Dec last year. The really amazing statements during my journey was from both the Rheumies I saw in the beginning, they both said I should be on the usual meds, being plaq & mtx to start with ,, when I asked them why they said it would stop me getting RA ... WT ?? I asked them if I had RA, they both said no, I had no symptoms of RA whatsoever, I then asked them if I don't have RA why would I take RA meds?a reasonable question I thought, they replied that it was a preventative measure .. again WT ? it was after that statement I then said 'if plaq & mtx is a preventative measure for RA why aren't you taking it?' as expected they were non too impressed by me challenging them...lol That's why I spent 4 mths researching everything I could about my disease & more importantly any treatment path I could find. I hope you find a solution to your absorbtion problem soon, Maz > > > No not at all, alot of people would not know all of that and your info can be helpfull. Guest guest
So what do you do now? Are you able to b-12 at all? Any idea what your reaction is attributable to? Guest guest
I can take the sublingual every other day and do okay. Whatever they used in the shot I have no idea.I actually had to be taken back to the doctor and he gave me another shot to act against the B-12 shot. I was picked up by the police for drunk walking, bouncing of walls etc. I told them I had nothing to drink but I just had a shot at the doctors office, so they called and took me back. Guest guest
I had a similar response to injected b12 but it was more like an analeptic shock The sublingual are fine though s. Guest guest
Wow. If you can tolerate sublingual, but not the shot, then perhaps it was one of the preservatives that tend to be in those b-12 bottles. At least you tolerate sublingual. If you ever wanted to, you could always get b-12 without preservatives from a compounding pharmacy. But sounds like you don't need that, and have a workable solution. Do you need to take the methyl version, or do you take regular b-12. I've been taking both. But when I've depleted my supply of the regular, I think I " ll stick with methyl, based on some articles I've read. The last article I read said that the regular b-12 is synthetic, and it is believed that the body treats it just like natural. The methyl form is not synthetic. Guest guest
Hi Pam, You are welcome, sometimes I wonder whether I should get so involved in my answers but then I remember when I started researching I was always looking for posts that spelled it out so I could take what applied & leave the rest. Hope you get to Oz sometime .. don't forget we are a big country so if it's a once only trip try to give 6 wks of your time to get round most of it. Cheers, Maz > > > > > > No not at all, alot of people would not know all of that and your info > can be helpfull. Guest guest
Hi, Near the beginning of my diagnosis and before AP, my local GP gave me B12 injections. I had to travel a half hour each time so he informed me that I could get the injectable B12 at the pharmacy and some 1cc insulin needles and inject myself but he also told me to take a Vitamin B complex at the same time and if the injectable form did not include folic acid to take an extra tablet/capsule of that at the same time as the shot. Apparently when taking any extra B vitamins you should also take a B complex at the same time so that the B's stay relatively balanced. carol_DM
