Hi Lee,

Her symptoms sound a lot like my daughter's friend who had lyme. Is she

tired most of the time and lacking energy to do her normal routine?

Subject: rheumatic Fatigued muscles from RA or Lyme's?

Hi all,

So far the obvious symptoms of my daughters RA-like condition have been pain

and

inflammation of the knuckles on her right hand and in the corresponding foot

knuckles/toes.

She's very athletic -- loves to work out and play soccer.

Usually, she does her sit-ups on a decline (head lower than feet, making

them much

harder) and does several sets of 30 sit-ups.

The last couple days, however, she can't even do three sit-ups on a flat

surface. She

doesn't have any pain in her abdominal muscles, but she just can't do them.

It's as though

the muscles won't work.

My wife and I are concerned, to say the least, as we are not aware of this

specific symptom

being part of RA.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? In the symptom descriptions I've found

thus far I _do_

see fatigue listed. Can it be to this degree while limited to just the few

joints?

As always, thank you all for any and all help and advice.

God bless

Lee

Lee,

You said your daughter is having trouble with muscle weakness? Has her Dr.

checked her for Scleroderma/Polymyositis? I only ask because muscle weakness is

a part of both of these autoimmune diseases. Your torso, thighs, and upper arms

can all become weak. I have RA, Scleroderma and Dermatomysitis.....they are so

closely connected that they cross over each other. If you have any questions I

would be happy to answer.

Hi Lee,

This sounds definitely like Dermatomyositis. I have this besides RA and yes

your upper torso gets very weak. Since I have started the Antibiotics I have

gotten a lot better. I am walking again sometimes four miles a day and that only

since middle of January this year.

Please find a AP doctor soon so your daughter gets back on her feet soon, the

sooner the better.

Take care,

Eva

Lee,

According to your inputs, your daughter was strong and athletic until

two days ago. Most rheumatic diseases have a slow buildup with many

warnings, so it is unlikely that your daughter has such a disease.

Since your daughter is also an outdoor type, I would suspect a spider

bite or other insect bite. Many spiders inject a neurotoxin, which

causes temporary muscle weakness.

http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-Fact/2000/2061A.html

" The bite of a black widow spider initially may go unnoticed ... Pain

soon begins and usually progresses from the bite site to finally

localize in the abdomen and back. Severe cramping or rigidity may

occur in the abdominal muscles... "

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/first-aid-spider-bites/FA00048

" The bite feels like a pinprick. You may not even know you've been

bitten. At first you may notice only slight swelling and faint red

marks. Within a few hours, though, intense pain and stiffness begin.

Other signs and symptoms of a black widow spider bite include:

chills, fever, nausea, severe abdominal pain. "

Please understand that all this is just based on some Google research.

Sincerely, Harald

Hi Jen,

Your post is concerning me.

I did a quick check on Scleroderma and found it is often accompanied by

Raynaud's

syndrome -- a discoloration of the hands and feet when exposed to cold. Just a

couple

weeks ago, after practicing in the cold, my daughter and I were looking at her

hands and

could not believe how whitish/yellow they were.

I would be so appreciative of any and all input you or anyone else could

provide.

Thank you and God bless you

Lee

Hi Eva,

I'm not even sure what an AP doctor is?

We contacted Dr. Burton in Philly who uses the Brown approach, but he cannot see

us until

June. The Pediatric rheumatologist will see my daughter on the 16th of this

month.

The first rheumatologist who diagnosed her was very cool to the idea of

antibiotics when I

brought it up earlier today to her... dismissing the idea of an infection.

Thanks for your input

God bless

Lee
