Guest guest
Well now, I am on my official 41st year of raising my own children and the oldest 4 as a child. I think God should recognize that I have had enough! I definitely fit into this category. Each day is a test of patience for me. Things do get better - even if it's only temporary. I love the summers now - I have little to no stress - but the school year is approaching - and who knows what will happen then. ----- Original Message ----- From: or Sandee Culliton Sent: Friday, July 30, 2010 11:28 AM Subject: Re: ( ) Newbie Thanks! I have my own bout of depression starting today for some reason.. ----- Original Message ----- From: Lori Sent: Friday, July 30, 2010 8:27 AM Subject: Re: ( ) Newbie Sandee, I can sympathize with the guilt, but we are in the same boat - we have to have medication of some kind. And 3 years later, we're still looking for the medication that works best for her, and that has the fewest side effects. I'm the target too - sometimes I think I should paint a bullseye on my back. I just don't take it personally anymore. I know I love her, and I know I'm trying to make the best and most educated decisions I can for her. I gave up worrying about what other people think or suggest. They don't know AS like we do! 2mg has been going very well - we are definitely seeing results. Supposedly, the theraputic level is at 4mg, but we are seeing results now. And the grouchyness has faded - just give it time. (Just watch for increased tiredness as you increase - you may need to split dosing, or move dosing to evening, but talk with your doc about that before you change anything) We are 2 weeks away from the start of school too....I can feel my blood pressure increase just typing those words. Ugh! Lori ( ) Newbie Hi everyone, I have just joined this group, my name is Sonya and I live in Australia, my 15 ½ year old daughter was diagnosed with Aspergers a few months ago and we have been working through it ever since. She is high functioning but as you all know there are still issues, her school work is suffering because she doesn’t focus on the work she needs to do because she wants to get back on the computer and watch anime (this is her obsession), cleanliness is another issue.. constantly nagging her to wear deodorant, wash her hair etc and she has social problems which break my heart because she desperately wants to fit in and just can’t. I can’t wait to talk to other people with similar issues, just feeling not alone is going to be so helpful! Any hints and tips on maybe controlling the obsession a bit would be appreciated and what has everyone done about encouraging hygiene? My daughter is very rarely defiant or angry so I know I am very lucky in that respect and she is open to helping herself... so there is hope J Sonya No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
The little girl we know who takes Keppra has just started on Lamictal in addition (Keppra is no longer enough to control seizures). They are at a very low dose, working slowly up to therapeutic levels so they can watch for signs of s-. Would you mind telling me the early signs you saw for that? I would like to be able to tell my friend. So far, all she has seen is increased irritability. Guest guest
She developed rashes. The first rash was a flat under the skin rash, like mottling. Dr. just called it a virus.. then it went away then came back but this time it was a prickly rash, raised like little white bumps.. Again the doctor poo-pooed it.. but did a CBC to see if she had an infection. Somewhere along the line someone ordered liver blood work. Her white count came back really low twice, and then her liver studies came back and where it was supposed to be 17, it was 475. Along the way she also seemed to have a reaction to an antibiotic salve that was ordered for the hole in her ear. She had mysteriously developed a hole in her outer ear. The Pediatrician said it was impetigo and ordered bactriban ointment for it. After we put it in her ear her whole face swelled up and went red. I found her asleep at home and could hardly wake her. I had to take her to the ER and they did blood work, CT scan and gave her benadryl IV . Looking back, I think it was not impetigo but part of the s-. Eventually, a spot of skin and flesh on her arm started sloughing off .. Just a small spot. I now believe that is what was happening in her ear too.. Anyway, when the liver test came back so high, the doctors sat up and finally took note. Called us immediately and said, "Stop the Lamictal immediately! They then put her on Keppra and it has worked fine.. Lamictal is actually a good drug for most people. My dd is just allergic to a lot of drugs and this is one of them. So, to sum it up , rashes and sloughing of skin are the signs parents would notice. Guest guest
I forwarded your information with s- to my friend, and she mentioned that her daughter has recently developed a rash around her waistband. Don't know if it is related, but I am grateful that thanks to you they have the information they need to be on the alert. Apparently when the child started the Lamictal, the doctor made it sound like symptoms for s- are always so severe they cannot be missed. I often find that the personal experience of a parent who has seen something first hand can be more valuable than that of a doctor, no matter how good they are, who has only read about it in a book. Guest guest
That doctor probably just doesn't notice it until it is so bad it is severe! None of the doctors took her rash seriously until the lab tests that were done for some other reason came back with the liver results. Then the lights went on.. that's why we caught it before real damage was done. Guest guest
I am sending this on for in SC as it was sent only to me but intended for all to read. carol Thanks to Maz, cooky, Carol, Cheryl fro your kind words of welcome and to all for allowing me to check this out. No, I haven't read any books on the subject of AT yet. I joined this group before I went to bed last night, so I haven't gone through the data base yet. Hadn't considered that my Rheumy may not know exactly what he is doing UNTIL I remembered all of my past Docs and their foibles. Sure, they are only human and subject to what they have learned as gospel in Med School and in practice. But unless your chart is in the box, I really wonder if they consider you at all with as busy as they are. So that is my job. Learn. Separate the grain from the chaff I guess and roll on. The multiple medical issues that I live with are a tad daunting- just from shear numbers, not because any one of them are a big hairy deal that I can't cope with. I have AS, RA, OA, Fibro, heart disease, Neuropathy, various areas of nerve damage, high cholesterol, DDD ( Disinegrating Disc Disease ), HBP, GERD, Diabetes, asthma, mixed incontinence and am waiting on bloodwork for Cancer to come back. Many of these issues stem from others and being unable to excersize. I walk with a cane and not much of that happens either. I have drastically changed how I eat to get my cholesterol, heart disease, asthma and Diabetes under control and had lost 37 pounds when I decided to quit smoking and went on the Chantix. I felt odd and about 3 weeks into it started having RA symptoms. I think maybe that the Chantix triggered ( not caused ) the RA to rear it's ugly head. Whatever- it's here now and I can't ignore THAT. I have cut down my smoking from 4 packs a day to one or a little less- but get so stressed out with everything that I can't seem to put them down for good just yet. Stupid, I know. My last Doc had me on quadruple the dose of Prednisone than RA protocol calls for and now I have cataracts from that. Grrrrr. Since 1997 when I ruptured my first disc, it has been one diagnosis after another and has been very overwhelming for me. This year's blueplate special was RA and GERD and now awaiting the cancer DX. Forgive me if I sound whiney- I don't feel like I am- just angry and disgusted with myself and the medical profession. Eternally waiting for an appointment at a specialist of some description and praying to God that they know what the heck they are doing. I am learning all I can and then I will make a choice about how I want to be treated and will find the appropriate Doc to do that with. I am on 19 different medications and when I run them through a drug checker- it is red flag city. Scares the crap outta me. I don't want to be scared any more. Thanks for reading this mess and allowing me to share. Sorry for the length. in SC
Guest guest
glad you are taking one step at a time. We all do specially if you have multiple health issues. Order the book " The new arthritis breakthrough " about Dr. Brown, written by Henry Scammell. You can get it at amazon.com, they have gently used books and they are lot less costly. I even bought one for my daughters doctor because he wanted to know what it was all about after I had talked to him (my daughter has RA and so do I). Guest guest
You should read Children With Starving Brains to get some good background on this issue. Also, one of the more knowledgeable posters will likely post shortly with more info. Welcome! Since it has really only been the last year that these seem apparent, I want to make sure nothing environmental is contributing. He is 6 1/2 now, we only gave him the first rounds of injections, and he had a poor reaction... he was very ill high fever for three days. Since we never had a reaction before, I was worried and stopped inoculating him as well as his twin sister. (though my husband is pressuring me to at least inoculate his twin sister so he is SAFER) I don't want to just starting TREATNG him without testing, as I think that is a major issue with the medical field to begin with is drugging and inoculating without ever checking current levels and what is NEEDED or SAFE. So where can I find a basic list of items that I should have tested for? Mercury, Iron? If Kaiser will not do them, what is a good clinic or center that I can pay to have them done at? We are in Southern California (Temecula area)... anyone else in this area? Any help welcome. Are there basic dietary changes we can start now? (not ready for cleanses etc) Is there a good journal form to track what we are doing, dietary changes etc. (if not any suggestions) As well as behaviors? (again any suggestions) On the PJ's how can we tell what ones are SAFE as far as chemicals? Same with washing bedding etc. Are the Tempur-pedic beds SAFE or better? What are some good blogs or journals that moms have kept?
Guest guest
STOP vaxxing both of them or you'll have two kid's showing Autistic behavior. The tipping point for girls is higher due to different brain organization of boys and girls. Get them both a hair test. She will be as toxic as he is, if not more. Hair elements test from DDI. Chelate them both. > > I have a son that is starting to show autistic behaviors... he is a twin > (has a twin sister)... she shows no symptoms. > > Since it has really only been the last year that these seem apparent, I want > to make sure nothing environmental is contributing. > > He is 6 1/2 now, we only gave him the first rounds of injections, and he had > a poor reaction... he was very ill high fever for three days. > > Since we never had a reaction before, I was worried and stopped inoculating > him as well as his twin sister. Guest guest
We stopped vaccinating when they were infants... my husband wanted to start our daughter back up and I have said NO. (since girls are less likely to get autism, and she has never showed symptoms... but I disagree since she also reacted with their first injections) What should I ask for in the HAIR test? What exactly are they to test for? What is DDI? Where can I find a detailed Chelate procedure with what I need to buy including brands? Like I said I am BRAND NEW to this? Guest guest
I would get the list of all he was given--manufacturer's brands etc.--and then you'll know what was injected into his body. Look up on nvic.com to find out ingredients of the vaccines. Barb [ ] Newbie I have a son that is starting to show autistic behaviors... he is a twin (has a twin sister)... she shows no symptoms. Guest guest
Look for post # 291332 and 291331. I sent these posts to the list for you and most if not all your questions are answered there. Good luck! And true girls have less incidence of ASD, but we have plenty of girls here, they're in no way immune. > > > > I have a son that is starting to show autistic behaviors... he is a twin > > (has a twin sister)... she shows no symptoms. > > > > Since it has really only been the last year that these seem apparent, I > want > > to make sure nothing environmental is contributing. > > > > He is 6 1/2 now, we only gave him the first rounds of injections, and he > had > > a poor reaction... he was very ill high fever for three days. > > > > Since we never had a reaction before, I was worried and stopped > inoculating > > him as well as his twin sister. Guest guest
I don't know if you have read the files, but they are great and very helpful. You asked about pajamas. I don't know if others would agree, but we just look for cotton; we stay away from flame retardant anything (so, we also make sure the pajamas are tight fitting and not loose in case of a real fire). I wash my kids clothes in a squirt of Dr. Bronners soaps, so I stay away from chemicals; peppermint doesn't smell like peppermint when the clothes are washed. I also use a small amount of it mixed with water in our foam soap dispenser...Dr. Bronners saves a ton of money. Just some ideas. I think diets are kind of a personal decision. So many kids are on so many diets, or none at all. It depends on the kid, the situation, etc. It's all in the files.
