Guest guest
Aw Beth it not good with a new baby and not be able to enjoy. I would suggest Cortef 20 mgms. Cortef is natural cortisone and you don't need a big dose to get you the same relief 40 mgms of cortisone __Prednisone. You are not breast feeding are you? If you are you need to talk to the pediatrician. Cortef is what I used and I was able to reduce my dose and get off it fairly easy when AP kicked in. Not many docs will order this and are not accustomed to ordering it. If your doc has a problem with it I am sure my doc would talk with him. Enjoy the baby and good luck. cooky From: rheumatic [mailto:rheumatic ] On Behalf Of Beth Fletcher Sent: Thursday, February 05, 2009 12:53 PM rheumatic Subject: rheumatic I'm doing really bad...help please! Hi, Group! I've been on AP now for about 4 weeks. I had a baby in October, so I had been in a pregnancy induced remission for a long time. Well, that's gone now and I'm struggling. I'm sore all over--seems like new joints are hurting all the time. My left knee is swollen so bad. It's getting hard for me to get up out of the chair while I've got the baby. I KNOW it takes a while for the AP to kick in and I don't plan on stopping, but I need something to get me through until it does. What would you all recommend? Supplements, something prescription the doc can give me, anything? I'm hurting BAD. Thanks, Beth
Guest guest
Hi Beth, I'll just mention the few things that really helped me... The epsom and peroxide bath that is described in the rheumatic FAQs was a godsend. I took baths as hot as I could tolerate with epsom salt and added a full bottle of peroxide after five minutes. It relieved pain better than any Rx or over the counter painkiller. It even took away the " sick all over " feeling for hours at a time. It was great. Liniment like IcyHot was very helpful. This sounds insane but a large spoonful of turmeric (organic, non irradiated) mixed in juice used to make me feel much better within 15 minutes. It's gross but it really worked. Many studies are being conducted right now on the anti inflammatory effects of turmeric. There is also a lemon/ olive oil drink in the rheumatic FAQs. Peel a lemon but leave the pith and put it in a blender with a TBS of extra virgin olive oil and a cup of water. Blend and drink. I recommend the bath and the turmeric more than anything for immediate relief of systemic malaise, and liniment for joint pain. You could start off your day with these things as a preemptive. Sorry you're not feeling well. Hope it gets better soon! Emma On Thu, Feb 5, 2009 at 12:52 PM, Beth Fletcher <kbf23@...> wrote: > Hi, Group! > > I've been on AP now for about 4 weeks. Guest guest
Beth, first of all, do not take any supplements if you are breast feeding without checking with the Pediatrician. I don't know your history but I would consult with a Rheumatologist to nip this in the bud immediately & then continue/resume AP down the road. Often times, if a woman has been in a pregnancy induced remission, they flare VERY significantly after delivery. You might need a dose pack of Medrol at the very least. And I don't know if you're taking a tetracycline antibiotic, but remember you cannot take that and breast feed. Guest guest
Hi Beth,It sounds like it would benefit you to take an anti-inflammatory until the AP has a chance to work. It will take the edge off the pain and swelling until you are doing better on your own. It will also help the AP work if the inflammation is kept down. Hope this helps and congratulations on your new baby.Best Wishes,Dee rheumatic I'm doing really bad...help please!rheumatic > Hi, Group!> > I've been on AP now for about 4 weeks. Guest guest
Sorry I did forget to mention if you are breast feeding you should always make sure the doctor is aware of that before anything is prescribed.Dee----- Original Message -----From: P Date: Thursday, February 5, 2009 2:46 pmSubject: RE: rheumatic I'm doing really bad...help please! To: rheumatic > Beth, first of all, do not take any supplements if you are > breast feeding> without checking with the Pediatrician. Guest guest
hello Beth!Oh I feel for you! I went through that 2x. I felt wonderful while pregnant! oh if one could stay 3 months pregnant forever. but ...yes after the birth... it is BAD. I hadn't found AP yet when I was going through it tho and it was a long time ago so I don't remember what I did other than suffer. Some mentioned breast feeding. I did want to breast feed so that did limit me. My rheumy was not understanding about breast feeding and said he even " had to force his wife to quit breast feeding " so he apparently had a problem about it. The 1st time I got pregnant again just after 4 months - oops! and lost my milk then. The 2nd time I stuck with it for 8 months then had a sinovectomy on my left knee so I had to wean my baby. Sounds like you are getting some good suggestions, Hope some help!
