Guest guest
Hi Sally, And welcome! I have a seven year old daughter who has been in treatment for OCD (therapy and meds) for nearly three years now. What a difference this has made in all of our lives. We, too, dealt with sensory problems from birth. I'll never forget the summer my daughter was 2 1/2 and out of diapers. She insisted upon wearing one of the same five sundresses and one pair of sandals every day, no matter what the activity. As Kathy H. mentioned, our daughter's sensory problems have improved along with her OCD. IMO, healing the OCD symptoms contributes to much less overall anxiety which contributes to making the sensory stuff more bearable. You asked why your daughter can hold it together at school (and presumably, not at home.) This is so very common with OCD kids who do not want to appear different in front of their peers. My daughter's teachers rarely saw a problem at school, but before she was diagnosed she used to just completely fall apart as soon as she got home. She still saves her very worst behavior for home as that is where she feels most safe and comfortable. Kathy H. has also given you some very valuable advice about m.h. professionals. I think the five-visit rule is the absolute gold standard. We also wasted lots and lots of money on inappropriate treatment and struggled to find the right docs for our daughter. Even now her treatment is not fully covered and plenty of $$ still come out of our pocket. But it is worth every penny when you get good treatment and see your child start to make progress and heal from the symptoms of OCD. Best wishes to you and feel free to write with any questions you may have. Take care, Lesli (San Francisco Bay)

Guest guest
Hi from me too, Just thought I would let you know I have a couple of friends who started on 50mg a day of Mino .. then built the dose up over time, to keep the herxing to a minimum. If you are herxing too much drink at least 3 litres of water a day to flush the toxins out of your system and/or try the whole lemon drink to detox. Good luck, Maz > > Sally, if you are having more pain or in different areas…you can drop back on the dosage. This protocol should not make you more miserable. I started out full 200mgms MWF and I herxed like crazy. I did not know …and this group wasn’t very active at the time…I should have taken less minocin and would probably have felt better faster. > > > > Cooky > > AP1997 > > > > From: rheumatic [mailto:rheumatic ] On Behalf Of mannasal@... > Sent: Wednesday, July 28, 2010 3:42 PM > rheumatic > Subject: RE: rheumatic Introduction pretty long > > > > > > Hi Carol, > I'm a " newbee " here. Have RA for 4 years.....and have been homebound most of the time. Did drugs for awhile, felt better, but didn't want to add more, side effects, etc...so jumped off that roller coaster and spent a few thousand $ on alternative, raw diet, etc...Been on AP for 4 weeks. It's frightening because I am back to bed more, crying more, wondering if I'm going to make it....or even if I want to! So, I guess you can say AP is working. Thanks so much to the encouragement of people of this site, who have been through this and encouragement to keep moving forward and that it is working! So, now with my little experience, I now can tell you to keep moving forward with AP and join us for recovery, remission, and an incredible new abundant live waiting us! Guest guest
Sally, i was on MWF (100mgs of Minocicline) and did not see much improvement. Only after i started taking 100mgs every day and now MWF (200mgs) a day I started to feel a difference. So, maybe you should try to increase the dose and see how you feel. After i increased the dose, I was herxing big time, but to me it was a good sign that something is working and my immune system is shaking.. I am a " doctor " for myself, I just get a prescription from the doctor, but twick the dosage myself as I am the only one who knows how i feel. Also, i have noticed the big difference in different generic names of Minocicline. I have never had a Brand Minocin, i always had generic names, but some work better than other ones i believe, so maybe you should try a different brand /generic Minocin and see if it will make a difference for you??? Guest guest
Hi, to avoid a huge herx when upping your dosage , only up one more day a week, then two, etc. gradually adding instead of adding all at once keeps the herx more manageable. Do the same if you are increasing to two doses a day instead of one. Slow makes the herx bearable. hope this makes sense. carol_DM
Guest guest
Well, since RA, my achiness/pain is all the time AM and PM. I take my ibuprofen in the AM and stay in bed until 10 or 11am to let it work, so I can then get up (with great difficulty) Just this morning, I lay in bed and didn't feel as much need to take ibuprofen....so I didn't, and I got up! This has been a first for me! My hip does give me much pain, so about an hour ago I took ibuprofen. This is a very positive sign for me. Seems like, for me....when I get frustrated and question if anything is working.....then the Universe gives me sometimes a small sign, saying " yes " . Sally Cooky....reading your email on how much you love/loved to shop made me want to go back to bed!! I've never liked shopping (even in good body) so got a good chuckle from hearing what energizes you! For me right now, (and now winter over) I like getting out to my front porch, sitting and watching and listening to nature and just being quiet. Come to think of it, that is what I liked before RA! How different (and the same) we all are. My focus/wish for some years, is to be happy/content doing whatever I am doing (or not doing) in the moment. Must say, now with RA.......my being happy/content is MUCH bigger challenge.......with much bigger rewards. And on line shopping is fun! rheumatic to sally Sally, I just read an old article about rheumatoid and AP. It said the first sign of it working is less achiness in the AM. Just FYI cooky
Guest guest
Sally…That is a really positive sign! Wow! Hopefully you will have more mornings of just getting up without ibuprofen. As for shopping…I love finding stuff, buying it and either giving it to someone I knew it would like it or using it in my own home. I loved to buy something for my daughter and see her get excited when she saw it. I really love getting something for my granddaughter. Her look of amazement is the best thing next to ice cream! My grandbaby will be here this evening from Ohio and I will have her for about 5 days without mom. She is 6 ½ and just the smartest little girl I have ever seen. She is also quite manipulative! I am really excited about being with her. I have gotten out of bed and got ready for her all this week. I actually used to even like grocery shopping…but now that I have to restrict my eating it’s not so much fun. Internet shopping is great but I really resent having to pay shipping and handling. The excitement there for me is finding a free shipping coupon or a % off coupon. Soon it will be nice outside and you can be content on your porch again and hopefully without too much pain. cooky From: rheumatic [mailto:rheumatic ] On Behalf Of mannasal@... Guest guest
Sally, glad you feeling some better, that means the AP is working and Cooky, I am with you, I love to go shopping during the week when the stores are not so crowded. I take my little 3-wheel rollator and just walk through the big stores. Just to get some exercise. Indoor is better. Texas gets to hot.
