Guest guest
I get horrible, horrible headaches from iron. I have tried every form out there, including the ones suggested by the wonderful folks on this board. The only ones I can tolerate are Spatone and Proferrin ES. Even these, I can only take in half doses once a day. I am currently working on digestion and diet issues to see if it helps with the iron uptake. My doc also suggested vitamin A, which didn't work well for me the first time around, but I will give it another try soon. Hope that helps, > > I've been taking iron for the past three days, about 60mg/day...and > today i had a headache and feel really irritable, as I did when I > started on westhroid for a week and promptly stopped (it was over the > holidays and the last thing I needed was to be grumpy with the > family!). Guest guest
Right now I supplement with one cap of dessicated raw liver, and I do okay with that. I also have an acetylcholine imbalance, so I have to watch anything that raises it - like liver and egg yolks. =-( My system is extremely sensitive, so everything in moderation. Most of the iron-rich veggies give me stomach pains, probably due to the oxalates. Kidney pain, frequent urination, and kidney stones run in my family, hence watching the oxalates. I've had very poor results with the plant-based iron supps like Flora. Boy, I really sound like a hypochondriac. My girls and I have had genetic testing as well as liver tests done, and the results explain why we are hyper-responders to everything under the sun. We won the lottery when it came to genetic abnormalities and autoimmune predisposition. It makes trying supplements and meds quite a treat, let me tell you. Did you have a suggestion? I'm open to them all. > > > > I get horrible, horrible headaches from iron. I have tried every form > > out there, including the ones suggested by the wonderful folks on this > > board. Guest guest
Have you tried cooking in an iron skillet? This is supposed to add iron to the food cooked in it. I have no idea how much though. If you have a really hard time with other sources it's worth a shot. Cherie Experience: that most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God do you learn.--C.S. > Right now I supplement with one cap of dessicated raw liver, and I do > okay with that.
