Maz I would love that list too so I can compare if you don't mind? For

instance I still can eat bananas and rice on my diet. Just interested in

seeing if mine is less strict.

Thanks so much for your post too!

Wow ---

let me see --- June I have already sent it to you via my private work email

address so watch out for it & make sure it hasn't gone into your junk email

area

Carey I can do the same for you,

Sally - although I would love to upload it here I don't know how...lol  & it is

too long to have in a post, but can send it to you as a pdf attachment & you

can

do whatever you want with it.

I don't mean to give anyone the idea that this stuff is fool proof, there are

many many diets out there that help people who have these kinds of diseases,

some of them work, some don't, some work for some people & some work for others

... this just happens to be one my doctor developed with the help of her friend

&

colleague who is a well respected naturopath - they work together with patients

who have auto immune diseases, they also work together to find the best

treatment path for each person (meaning the abx I am on is not necessarily the

one she would prescribe for someone else)

Maz,

Hi Maz,

I'd appreciate a copy as well. I think diet is the key for my wellbeing.

But it's tricky because it keeps changing! Regards, El (ehgooding@...)

I got it. thanks. Thats pretty much how I eat (good recommendations) I'm only

fixing 2 small meals a day because of my RA, so not getting enough nutrition can

be problem. I don't eat fish, red meat, turkey, chicken. I'm not against it,

just harder to prepare. I eat organic. I do sprout leafy greens seeds, seeds,

nuts, lentils, grains and eat. To my understanding, that changes it into live

food and ok to eat?? I can have raw goat kefir delivered to me fresh.....that

would be my only diary and I'm (my body) feels the need. For my sweet, I'll have

Ricoli natural cough drops like 3-5 aday. sugar is last ingredient. Wonder if

I should stop those? Did raw food diet for 4 months, and now eat 80% raw. As

it warms up, I'll go more raw.

where's the fun??? Sally

PS I don't like chocolate either.....except small piece of dark organic cacao

chocolate maybe once every 3 months.

Welcome,

I have always eaten breakfast as my main meal (thanks to a very hectic exercise

regime) & still do, only eat a large meal in the evening when someone else cooks

or we dine out with friends, must admit I still eat fish & meat not so much

chicken (but it's 90% vegies & 10% meat/fish on the plate) .. wonderful Sally I

have NEVER met or spoken to anyone who like me doesn't like chocolate until you

!!  I was the type of kid who was given some money to go buy sweets from the

shop & came back with an apple.... go figure !!!!!!

It's always nice to know that you are on the right path though isn't it !!  I

ask people all the time what foods they avoid.

What I found affects me the most is actually spices .. different spice

combinations affect me but if I eat the spices one at a time it doesn't affect

me .. interesting isn't it?

Hi Maz,

the words you wrote " hectic exercise regime " are not words used too much on this

site......is that regime current? After being homebound for almost 5 years, I

tearfully admit that I'm beginning to have less rememberances/feelings of what

it was like before RA (like hectic exercise regime) I think friends and family

also have forgotten (I'm afraid to ask). I just started back eating 1 organic

local egg a week, but think I'll stop. I do eat can organic pinto or white

beans for protien. And lots of good water.

My sisters LOVE chocolate, so they are sure that I'm adopted!

No .. not current .......lol    Just talking about how I eat, when I was

young I

got into the habit of making breaky my biggest meal of the day which continues

to now, however I still firmly believe in exercise even when it's tough.

There

are many ways to exercise without breaking a sweat & being that I am an ex

dancer firmly believe in the pilates way of doing things .. it's all about

being

slow & controlled, it's trying to build up your core strength .. for me I don't

believe in the whole aerobics thing of breaking out in a sweat & huffing &

puffing which BTW is what most people think of when they think exercise.  Hey,

if you have been housebound you can't expect to be out there running round the

block, just walking up the hallway & back will do it, or if you can't walk

believe me just sitting in a chair raising your legs up & down would be a good

start.  Whatever you can manage without over exerting yourself.  We all have

to

start somewhere.

Forgot to tell you .... the reason organic bananas are ok & others not is the

sulphur content of the not ones

organic bananas don't have sulphur in them............

One quick question on Bananas.  Here in PR, they grow on tree in everybodys back

yard including mine.  No one sprays anything on them and so does that mean they

are considered organic.  That is all the bananas I eat.  We have those little

finger bananas and I eat several a day for the potassium.   I did the same thing

when I lived in Hawaii during the 80's.  I ate the bananas off the trees.  The

same with mangos, papayas, starfruit  & avodados.  They grow wild.  We have about

30 avocados starting on the tree right now.  The tree was planted a few years

ago and this is going to be the first yield.  I will have to check if they are

nightshades.   Take care, Dolores

That's interesting Maz as I feel my best when I eat a diet consisting of:

Meat, fish, vegetables, squash, lots of good fats (butter, coconut oil,

olive oil) with a little fruit and nuts, coconut. I make baked goods

using almond flour. This site has some great recipes:

http://www.elanaspantry.com/

I was a vegetarian when I got sick. If I eat that way now I'm in agony.

On a paleo diet (my restricted version of

http://www.gaps.me/preview/?page_id=28) I feel pretty good. I am amazed

at the difference it makes in my pain and mobility.

ok - finally gave in, here it is ..... (I told you it was a long list guys,

....lol)

Here is the list of things that have been suggested to me NOT TO EAT!

MUST EAT

-- plenty of protein!!

Fish Red meat Veal Chicken (only a little because of growth hormones,

here in Oz

chicks go from birth to table in 6 wks)

Maz

(ps I have a full list of nightshades & spices to watch out for as well but

thought this was enough)

Vegetables (everything except nightshade vegies)

Tomatoes only cooked not raw

Nuts (no to peanuts or cashews, but can have all others)

Pears

Mango

Can eat rice (basmati only, no jasmine or long grain)

I rarely eat processed foods & hate chocolate (yes you read right I just

don't

like chocolate, never have) so this food regime was not a stretch for

me. It

looks a lot, and when I first saw it I looked and thought 'you've got to be

kiddin'.....

..but when I took it home and read it properly it wasn't too bad, I

really don't eat most of it anyway.....

Regards,

WHEAT PRODUCTS

Gluten Grains - wheat/barley/oates/rye

Pasta (wheat based) (Corn & Rice pasta is OK)

Additives 1440-1444 (really important)

Gravox, gravy sauces (which are thickened with flour)

Lollies (or sweets or whatever you call them in your neck of the woods)

Malt, beer

Vegemite / marmite

Coffee (unless percolated, and a big no to instant coffee unless it is

percolated first so that brand is OK)

SULPHUR PRODUCTS

Fresh fruit- cherries, grapes, bananas (only organic bananas OK) Oranges (a

definate NO NO)

Garlic & onion (too strong, substitute shallots)

Lentils (specifically dried beans / chick peas)

Deli meats (unless stated as gluten free)

Sausages (bought)

Additives 220-225

MILK PRODUCTS Milk (cows) (Soy & Rice OK)

Cheese

Ice cream

Chocolate

Yoghurt (all flavoured ones) (Natural yoghurt OK)

Margarine spreads (dairy free IS ok)

Mayonaise (milk free is OK)

FATTY FOODS & SUGAR

Cane sugar, lollies (do not use artificial sweeteners at all)

Honey Jam (shop bought) (pectin & all fruit jams OK)

Milo Fruit drinks (bottled/purchased) (juice your own OK)

soft drinks

grapes

Smoke 'rollies' not cigarettes (for the additives)

In other words AVOID WHEAT, GLUTEN, SULPHUR, MILK PRODUCTS CHEESE, SUGAR,

INSTANT COFFEE, ALCOHOL, CHOCOLATE, ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS, SALICYLATES

I'm a yoga/tichi person myself.

I had 2 months of PT come in and work with me (doing exercises from bed) I do

them each morning before I get up, and can tell I'm stronger. That's the beauty

of the body and it's healing. Sally

interesting, I was pretty much eating as indicated. My body craves the good

foods, and the " no " foods, I find I'm not wanting. I guess I'm starting to

" listen to my body " sally

There is good sulphur & bad sulphur & I didn't react to MSM myself so just

assumed it was the good stuff!  It's all a bit of hit & miss, everyone is

different so we have to do it ourselves really.

I wonder if MSM is good to take due to the sulpher content then?

Over here the sulphur is in the sprays used by normal growers .. off the tree is

fine for anything here, so am sure you will be ok.

One quick question on Bananas.  Here in PR, they grow on tree in everybodys

back

yard including mine.  No one sprays anything on them and so does that mean they

are considered organic.  That is all the bananas I eat.  We have those little

finger bananas and I eat several a day for the potassium.   I did the same

thing

when I lived in Hawaii during the 80's.  I ate the bananas off the trees.  The

same with mangos, papayas, starfruit  & avodados.  They grow wild.  We have

about

30 avocados starting on the tree right now.  The tree was planted a few years

ago and this is going to be the first yield.  I will have to check if they are

nightshades.   Take care, Dolores
