Guest guest
Hi Carole, If it is a matter of stomach upset, a little broth and /or cracker helps. You can also sip iced lemon water of warm tea.  I did that with the minocin at times during the last 5 years. Remember, the most important thing is to get that antibiotic down to cure the cause of the disease. The symptoms, even severe ones take second place to that Doxy. You will reach your goal faster if you can tolerate the hour. The stomach should be empty for the best efficacy. Any foods, will diminsh that. Once you get to the core of the problem and you are on mainenance dose Mon, Wed. & Fri., it will get easier.  What I did, when I was on Minocin 100mg, twice a day & going without food two hours before and two hours after a dose and remaining upright because if you lay down, you will get the worst case of indigestion, was to get involved in something that takes your mind off how hungry you are for the time being. That is when I would sit at the computer and read the posts or answer post. Sometime I would play solitaire or do crossword puzzles. I also like to play hold'em poker. Read a book, sew up that tear that needed mending or google some articles on Rheumaic diseases. if you like to cook or paint, check out google on ltest recipes. You would be so surprised at how fast that hour goes by once you become interested in something. Take the dose before your favorite TV show. Laughing is a great thing, try watching some comedy. There is so much you can do to pass the hour. I could go on, but know this, that the doxy is the most important medication to take. The rest pale in comparison. they are for the symptoms.  Dolores From: Carole Stein <carolestein127.3@...> Subject: rheumatic Doxy and my stomach rheumatic Date: Friday, September 24, 2010, 8:54 AM  Ok - this is getting old - doxy on an empty stomach - wait one hour - it gets really bad at the end of the hour - how much less effective is the doxy if I add some food - or does someone have another idea? thanx carole -- Carole S. Guest guest
Hi, Carole. I am sorry that you are feeling ill effects. I was on Mino for over two years, then Doxy, now Azithromycin. This is my take on your question: You only need to be careful of taking the antibiotic with something else that will bind it (and reduce its effectiveness). This is especially iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium, aluminum, antacids. Some foods have more of these than others: milk, etc. So look at the ingredients...if no additives re: above and eat an apple or some other whole food (not processed) and take your abx. I did not have a digestion issue with Minocin except rarely. But when I did...usually digestive in nature, not the nausea with Doxy...I would take Bromelain (OTC supplement containing pineapple enzyme) and days I'm not taking abx, take probiotics, putting the biotics back into the system. Very important NOT to take probiotics with antbiotics...as you may guess the anti will counter the pro... Best of luck, O > > Ok - this is getting old - doxy on an empty stomach - wait one hour - > it gets really bad at the end of the hour - how much less effective is > the doxy if I add some food - or does someone have another idea? > > thanx > > carole > > -- > Carole S. Guest guest
Hello! I take a great probiotic that I get off of www.vitacost. Its made by a company called Renew Life and the name of the product is Ultimate Flora Critical Care. It is kept in refrigeration after opening and has a whopping 50 billion count! Im on a lyme protocol which means that Im taking high doses of abx so having a really good probiotic in the mix is key. Never any problems with it! rheumatic Re: Doxy and my stomach Hi, Carole. Guest guest
EAT ..this is doxy not minocin. You should eat. If you don't eat you will be sick. The food does not bother doxy like it does minocin . Where this got started is that you cannot eat with tetracycline at all.so people think doxy is same as tetracycline and not eat. I gave this medicine out for 14 years at a clinic and we always told people to eat. cooky From: rheumatic [mailto:rheumatic ] On Behalf Of Carole Stein Sent: Friday, September 24, 2010 8:55 AM rheumatic Subject: rheumatic Doxy and my stomach Ok - this is getting old - doxy on an empty stomach - wait one hour - it gets really bad at the end of the hour - how much less effective is the doxy if I add some food - or does someone have another idea? Guest guest
Hi, MIke. So, I just sent out an e-mail asking for help with my reactive arthritis symptoms, and I came across this e-mail. I was told to be careful with what I ate after taking the minocin (no dairy, vitamins, and +2 charged ions (like Ca, Zn, Mg. Fe). I take the minocin when I wake up and follow it with a breakfast of a few clementines and a cup of coffee. Is that preventing the minocin from working properly? Thanks. Guest guest
Hello Mona. If you have been following the posts, It has been established that Doxycycline is not like Minocin and therefore you are able to eat with this pill. This is a fact I did not know. BTW, this is Dolores & not Mike. I am in remission from scleroderma and do not know anything about reactive arthritis. I'm sorry, but I cannot help you. My experience ha only been with Minocin.
