Guest guest
What do you do when no one will listen? This comes up for people on the " Bernstein diet " for diabetes (only 30-42 g carbs a day - recommended - I eat more about people wanting you to " eat more fun stuff " , " just a little " .. I can shrug that off - mainly because I don't get it, except from my grandmother who keeps giving me pieces of " sugar-free cake " .. Not realizing that the cake flour *itself* has enough carbs to spike the BG of an elephant probably! (And I can't blame her - she'd 89, half-senile [we think], although I suspect a thyroid problem.. but that's another story.. I almost want to just go over and take her blood sample, and get one of those at-home-TSH tests.. Not as good as a saliva test, but easier and cheaper (getting her to spit enough to fill up 3/4 of those tubes might raise just a few questions I just rescheduled my psychiatrist's appointment for next month - I really want my mother to go with me as I'm going to *need* to find a doc who understands this stuff.. But I'm not sure if it's worth it trying to involve her, as I *can* pay for this myself.. My dad I don't think even knows about the hypothyroidism (never asked for instance " What's this 'ARM-OAR' stuff?? " ) My Mom I think knows *something* is wrong, but either doesn't want to believe that it could be adrenals ( " they don't last forever, Mom.. " ), or perhaps its because she has a lot of the same things, just to a lesser degree (stress intolerance, annoyed at little things, fatigued - that could be the statin though).. " The classic Ostrich Defense " in my mind. Has anyone heard of Dr Stirling in Indianapolis? She's a GP (not an endo!) and has a thyroid problem, so kind of has to understand this stuff, and uses Armour, tests T3 and T4.. The other doc I *was* looking at was Dr. Don - a psychiatrist who charges $210 an hour.. Except now he practices in Mishawaka, IN. In addition to costing a lot - I'd rather see if Dr. Stirling is any good, then get a " letter of treatment recommendation " from the Doc at HormoneRestoration.com Jim

In all honestly, sod 'em. You make the decisions about what you eat, not them. Chances are it's not about you anyway - they are most likely looking to have their own crap food choices validated. Remember, when you are being pressured, that it's not them who have to live with the appalling consequences of running high blood sugars - it's YOU. If they were your friends or loved ones, they wouldn't want you to risk losing your digits, eyesight, kidneys and worse. Rosie/
