The only time I experienced tinnitus was after I had a cochlear Implant 11/07. When I was activated 1/16/08 and since then I only have tinnitis occasionally. Hope that helps, Bernadine
Guest guest
I've had a very low level tinnitis in my unimplanted ear for years that I only hear in almost absolute silence. Since my implant I occasionally have a fairly loud annoying hum in my implanted ear for a few hours. Sometimes I don't have it for weeks. Sometimes every day for a few days. Guest guest
Hi , I still have tinnitis in my CI ear. I noticed though that one of the ear noises I do not hear anymore, thanks heaven. That one was what I called the electric current or zap going from my left ear up to the middle of my forehead. I usually get that one if a sound is so high like baby or kid screaming on top of their lungs, fire alarm, hearing test in high pitch you don't hear, etc. That is one ear noise I am not going to miss very much <grinning>. I do not get that noise in my right ear due to the fact I don't wear HA there and never will. Dolly Dolphin

Guest guest
Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the absence of sound. We hear sound when there is none. Scary huh? Happy Hearing! Guest guest
I have had tinnitis as long as i can remember and I am prelingual. I never had in my left ear until i had my implant surgery. I first heard the freight train about 3 hours of surgery on that side... My right side loves talk show and christmas carols at random times like when i am trying to sleep... I have cut back on stuff that aggravates it and the CIs blocks them nicely Snoopy
Guest guest
Hi: I still have Tinnitus, but it is greatly reduced since having my implant activated. Sometimes I'll hear a low hum sound, sometimes a low ringing sound, but my Tinnitus is much better than before the CI. cause of hearing loss unknown Cochlear Awareness Network Advocate 4/3/07 Surgery, left ear Nucleus Freedom 5/8/07 Activated Univ of Miami Dr. Balkany > > I am curious. do most people with a hearing loss have tinnitis? Guest guest
Many or most people with hearing loss have tinnitis, but not all.? I find that doctors are not sure what causes it.? I thought mine was part of my nerve deafness, but doctors said not.? When I got my CI, the CI seems to mask out the tinnitis on my right side, but the tinnitis on the lef, unimplanted side is still as loud as ever.? I don't notice it as much since the CI gives me other things to listen too? Nan Rosen
Guest guest
, I've had hearing loss since age 3 and prior to receiving my first CI, I had mild tinnitus in my left ear (for as long as I can remember). Following my first CI surgery, I had severe tinnitus which improved as time went on. I think I've mentioned this on the list before, but the tinnitus I experienced consisted of 8 different sounds. After my second CI, I continued to have tinnitus, but the sounds I now hear are restricted to a high, medium or low pitched ringing. I'm happy to report that the tinnitus I now experience is sporodic in nature and has improved considerably since both of my surgeries. Guest guest
Does anybody have any advice on sleeping with tinnitis? Thanks, Sue
Guest guest
Hi Sue, Try sleeping with a small fan in your bedroom. Position it so it's not blowing on your bed and try setting it on a low or medium setting. If that doesn't help, try setting it on the highest speed.
