Guest guest
Ok, so it has been a while since I have posted. Mainly since I have been doing pretty good most days. But I have the weirdest question to ask my RA friends that have been through numerous amounts of drugs for many years. At any time when you or your wife have change the sheets have you noticed YOUR side only has stains? Mine is from neck to feet. Mattress is only a few years old but it looks like I have sweated through my sheets and mattress is stained. I know that we take a lot of toxic meds so do you think this guess of mine is right? If so, what in the world do I do to clean off the stain. Mind you only my side and not my husbands. I do know that when I have hot spells or restless leg syndrome I start to sweat. Ok, any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Many thanks. Maldonado RA/DM
Guest guest
Hi , Not sure what to do about the stains as I have not found a solution either. I do not have a large an area as you mentioned but I've decided what I cannot see, I won't worry about. As for the 'restless legs'. I've found that keeping my magnesium levels up has eliminated that problem for me. Besides taking the calcium/magnesium supplement for osteoporosis due to long term prednisone use, I added 250mg of magnesium citrate 2 or 3 times a day and no longer have restless legs. hth,. Guest guest
Wow! Great idea! Couldn't build one when I lived in NY. But at the end of the month, I am moving into the beachouse with lots of land around. Plan to put in a hot tub to soak away the sore muscles. I had totally forgotten about building an infrared sauna. Who has the instructions?. That would be the icing on the cake!!!-----Ok! question? A few months ago I fell on my back on concrete when my hammock gave way. My hips. & back were sore for a long time. Doc decided to do a U/A and it came back loaded with bacteria   I was on my MWF minocin dose at the time. The doc added Bactrim which I took for 10 days. Still aching, the doc ordered another U/A. Again, loaded with bacteria. and this time nitrates denoting some kidney problem. He.ordered cefalexin for a week. I have decided to hold the minocin during this time as I can't find literature on taking both antibiotics together. Am I right/wrong. Anyone else ever get this. A week after I finish the cefalexin, doc want to do a culture. Never had a stubborn UTI before. I usually can get rid of it pretty quickly. I am on my second quart of cranberry juice and forcing fluids. Any other suggestions out there. I am a diabetic, but my A 1 C has been 6.2,  well under control, so I can't blame it on that. There has been no sexual activity either since I fell. The pain was too much. So, what happened.? Thanks for any suggestions in advance.~~~~~~Dolores & Mike From: Sauve <moniquesauve@...> Subject: rheumatic Re: Toxin Release rheumatic Date: Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 3:26 PM  what about infired saunas? Guest guest
Thanks Eva. I know, way back when, that some people had built them in their yards. Not having a yard, I didn't save the directions. But now, it would be the coolest! Err! hottest!I never could keep it straight. Some times, the kids think everything is either cool. Or, we went through a phase where everything was hot!!!---Go figure!~~~You started with kidney or bladder problems? Tell me about that. I never experienced that before. And you know, I stopped taking the Minocin this week in order for the cephalexin to do its' work and at dinner time, when I went to open my mouth, my jaw started to hurt so badly, I couldn't close my mouth. I had TMJ as an early sign prior to getting diagnosed with Scleroderma.five years ago. That symptom went away when I started Minocin. What gives? Should I go back on the Minocin or wait till the cephalexin is finished? The best to you & Burl~~~~~Dolores & Mike From: Sauve <moniquesauve@ shaw.ca> Subject: rheumatic Re: Toxin Release rheumatic@grou ps.com Date: Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 3:26 PM  what about infired saunas? Guest guest
Hi Dolores, A nosey question but are you overweight? Do you wipe from front to back or just wipe the butt and pull the tissue thru the front? Do you take baths and especially do you use bubble bath? Do you use anything vaginally…scented tissues…creams to keep it moist…oils? Do you douche? Also with your diabetes you can get yeast frequently without knowing and yeast can contribute to UTI’s. Maybe they could put you on Diflucan or something similar to see if that helps. Watch those hot tubs. They promote UTI’s and yeast. Do not ever have sex in it because it would be like douching with the water in there. And finally the fall on your back injuring your kidneys could be the whole problem. Guest guest
Hi Cooky! Some wonderful questions and answers, but no, I am just the right size for my height and actually have difficulty maintaining my weight since I was diagnosed with scleroderma.(2005)  No, we don't have a bath tub. I shower all the time and learned to wipe properly when I was a small child. I never get UTI's. But I do have a kidney stone that has been there for about two years. It is still too small to do another lithotrypsy. They keep thinking I will pass it. I wish I could. I had a lithotrypsy done about 8-10 yrs ago for two other larger stones.and have since formed this stone. I laughed when you mentioned having sex in the hot tub. I am 73 with scleroderma and wish I were pliable enough to have sex anywhere. Hehe! No, I am not that adventurous. I have to sleep with a C-Pap machine for sleep apnea. I mentioned it in my e:mail because that is usually a way women get UTI's. But that is not the case with me.  Until now, I have not had a yeast infection since I can't ever remember when. But it is an avenue I will explore and will bring up the subject after the next urine culture should it still be positive.  My question was should I continue with the Minocin or wait until the week of taking cephalexin is over and then resume the Minocin. If the next culture comes back positive for bacteria, I am sure we will know what type and go on from there. This is the first UTI in many many years. I've been a diabetic for at least 20 years and it is completely under control. My husband wishes I could keep a few lbs. on my bones, but that will never happen. I am prone to anemia and have been since childhood. So, supplemental protein powders are always nearby should my weight begin to slip again. I lost 40 lbs when first diagnosed with scleroderma. My friends, family and husband were all in tears. I got so thin that they all thought I was dying from cancer. I have since stabilized my weight, by force feeding protein supplements. It's been about 18 months of maintaing stable weight since I have had to force feed. This UTI is a brand new symptom under investigation. Take care and thank you for the reply. The infrared sauna sounds like something I could use. The hot tub is for my husband's circulation. He has DVT and has had two strokes. He is an amputee and loves to soak in the hot tub. He is on coumadin for the clotting factor. He has a disease called anti cardiolipin and anti phospholipin antibody syndrome. Together they call it Lupus anti coaglulant antibody syndrome. He had the strokes because he wasn't properly anticoagulated post op when they did his splenectomy. So far, he has not developed Lupus, but does get the butterfly rash, ocassionally. So, both of us have problems with immune system funcion. He is also on Minocin. His Raynaud's was painful. That is why we now live in the tropics. Thank you, Dolores & Mike Rosner  .    From: Cooky Stonkey <cookee1@...> Subject: RE: rheumatic Re: Toxin Release rheumatic Date: Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 8:25 PM  Hi Dolores, A nosey question but are you overweight? Guest guest
Dolores, you can find instructions for building an inexpensive infrared sauna for use in your home on this site - http://www.drlwilson.com/articles/sauna_therapy.htm#encplans http://www.mercola.com/2002/aug/14/sauna.htm My husband made me one several years ago for use in the commode area of our bathroom. I have pictures of it I can send you privately if you are interested. As for that kidney stone, I've heard they can be dissolved by making a tea with equal parts of hydrangea, marshmallow root and gravel root. A friend of ours had success just using hydrangea capsules. As for that UTI, my friend went to the doctor for an antibiotic for her UTI, and the doctor told my friend to go to the drugstore and by AZO - $9.95. It worked! Questions on combining medication is best answered by your pharmacist Ethel rheumatic Re: Toxin Release rheumatic Date: Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 3:26 PM what about infired saunas? Guest guest
Hi Cooky, the suggestions coming are great. Will try everything until the UTI is gone. I think my last UTI was in the 80's while on a cross country trip. Doc said I sat for too long. Some fluids, two meds for a week  and I was fine. There were two meds I took. Forgot their names now. One made my urine orange, but soothed the cramping. The other one cleared up the infection in a couple of days.  I don't know why they don't use those medications anymore. They were great.  Who remembers the names of those? In those days, I guess my immune system was intact. Now! Whew! I've got to work on it. Thanks a million, Dolores From: Sauve <moniquesauve@ shaw.ca> Subject: rheumatic Re: Toxin Release rheumatic@grou ps.com Date: Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 3:26 PM what about infired saunas? Guest guest
Dolores, yes I think you should go back to the Mino as soon as you done with the script of what you taking for the UTI. After the two UTI's I had and my hands started to swell and then I also started to have the problem with the cough.I ended up with the interstitial pulmonary fibrosis. Go and see either a allergist or infectous deseas doctor that could do the mycoplasma testing. There is also a test that tells you what causes the UTI. Porteus Mirabilis,. Here is the sauna I got, it works, I just have a hard time sweating, Dr. K. told me it will take awhile, Eva  Welcome Guest [ Login | Register ]  Advanced Search Want our monthly health newsletter Click here!A conventional sauna heats the air in the chamber to a very high temperature, which in turn heats the body. Far infrared saunas works differently. Neither oxygen molecules nor nitrogen molecules in the air can block the far infrared (FIR) wave; therefore, the unique far infrared wave penetrates directly into the body a couple of inches. It makes us feel quite warm and we perspire profusely, but our skin is not hurt by the hot air. Some heavy metals accumulate under our skin and the far infrared sauna is very good for sweating them out. Clearing your head If your head is stuffy or you feel a cold coming on, try putting just a few drops of essential eucalyptus oil inside the sauna (rub it somewhere on the sauna tent, near the zipper is best, not on any heating material). As the sauna heats up, the eucalyptus vapors will rise. By breathing in deeply, you can help clear out your head faster. The far infrared sauna design The design of this portable sauna includes the most desirable features of expensive saunas but with much greater convenience and a much lower price. The infrared sauna heater box has a high tech super conducive and ultra thin carbon fiber heating element. The high heat efficiency helps you perspire, activates the build, promotes blood circulation and keeps the body healthy. Ten minutes in this sauna corresponds to 30 minutes of jogging for exhaust sweat. With its satisfying design, your head and hands can extend out for reading or handling the remote control or drinks. The far infrared portable sauna unit includes: Far infrared sauna box Far infrared carbon fiber heating panels Intelligent temperature automatic preset control for various levels of heating Master controller unit State of the art technology in super conducive heating elements coated with heat-activated far infrared material 1050 watts, equivalent to 1780 watts of thermal energy Compact folding chair Ceramic heater Foam floor pad Zipper for neck and both arms Zipper for entrance Regular Size: 27in wide x 32in deep x 38in high Large Size: 32in wide x 34in deep x 41in high AC 120v 60hz Power Supply Far Infrared Material Energy Emission: 97% Automatic Preset Timer Control: 5, 10, 15, 20 min Five heat levels Low Operating Cost:approximately $0.05 for 20 minutes use One year warranty These FIR saunas are nonreturnable for sanitation reasons. Guest guest
Hi sweetie, Long time since I've written to you. Sorry to hear you also have the Interstitial pulmonary fibrosis. That was the first thing the hospital found out when I first was so sick. I had no symptoms in the lungs, just the incredible total body aching, They did the routine xray and admitted me with pneumonia only to find out a few days later, that it was IPF. That is when I found out there was no cure. Months went by without further diagnosis and then I was told I had Scleroderma. Also, no cure and I was going to die. Hah! I turned down their toxic meds and went on Minocin and here I still am stirring up trouble. The IPF got arrested almost immediately with the Minocin and it has, in fact receded, much to the amazement of those specialists. So, I don't concern myself with the IPF anymore. It left me with a 55% lung capacity and I function very well with that. Like I tell everyone, I can't dance as long or run as far as I used to, but then I am 73 and not supposed to. This disease made me finally start acting my age. Well, maybe!!!!!!  I was tested many times for pulmonary hypertension, but always came out negative. Should I develop any problems with that, I would go immediately for the tests again. That is what we have to look out for. My last micoplasma antibody count two years ago was still significant, which means the body was still fighting off the bug. On my original test I came back positive for micoplasma pneumonae.  Now that my ANA & RF are normal, I will have it tested again as soon as we move to the beach house. I'm sure the antibodies will remain with me for quite a long time. My husband still has Lupus Anticoagulant Antibodies from 1992.  I also have those. I was going to an infectious disease doctor while in Florida, but there is no need to continue unless, of course, this UTI becomes chronic and then I will get a urologist. Right now I am on cephalexin for a week, Must wait a week after that and then have a culture taken and see what is going on. Hope the cephalexin kills it. If not the culture will tell what microorganism it is. If it is Porteus Mirabilis, or some other bug, we will get to the root cause...Believe me, I won't let this fester. Yes, I plan on going back on Minocin. It will only be a week of non dosage, so I think I will be fine. I'm on a MWF schedule, so I am only missing 3 days. I'm waiting to see if abstinence provokes a good herx. I don't think I've ever experienced one or maybe I just don't recognize them.  As far as the infrared sauna. I think it is a good idea, but am a bit concerned as I don't have any problems sweating. Right now I am dry, but many times throughout  the day, I have sweat running from my head all the way down my body. And I get night sweats also. Sometimes my night clothes are soaked as are my sheets.  If I can sweat like that, do I really need an infrared sauna or would it be dangerous and  dehydrate me. I drink lots of fluids. I keep a large container of lemon water, tea with lemon and diet cranberry juice with water by my side or in the fridge at all times. I buy straws by the case and sip all day long. Hmmm ! ! ! !--before I order, I will do some research. Any thoughts out there that can help me. Thanks for your concern and friendship.... Maybe one day, you & Bert can take a trip down to say hello. Would love it. Take care, Dolores  From: Sauve <moniquesauve@ shaw.ca> Subject: rheumatic Re: Toxin Release rheumatic@grou ps.com Date: Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 3:26 PM  what about infired saunas? Ok about that sex in the hot tub…haha…you can still fool around and that can cause problems too but I won’t say anymore about that. I hope by now you have resolved your UTI. Hugs, cooky Hi Cooky! Guest guest
Hi Cooky. Hope you had a nice trip and glad you made it home safely. So, many odd storms this year. The weather patterns have been so crazy. Yes, I have decided to give the cephalexin its' own time to do the healing without the interference of another drug. Once the UTI is healed, then I will go back to the MWF maintenance dose of Minocin. Finally decided that on my own. This is the first UTI I have had in many years. And I have no explanation as to why. Checked all the avenues and none apply. First of all, we don't have a hot tub yet. That will come when we move to the beach house. We don't have a tub. Live in the Caribbean where most houses just have showers. I am more on the underweight than overweight side.  Diabetes is under complete control. I do not eat any food with added sugar or corn syrup. My diet consists mostly of fresh or frozen vegetables and drink V-8 juice for breakfast. I'm also on my second gallon of diet cranberry juice which I dilute with bottled water. I drink lots of water throughout my day. The rest of my diet is protein with every meal. Doctor suggested I should up my protein levels. So, I take meat, fish, egg or cheese with every meal. The cheeses I chose are low fat cottage, lo-fat ricotta, lo-fat feta and very small amts of cheddar at times and also sprinkle them over salads & soups or eat with fruit. I  buy fresh pears, apples, bananas. When appropriate, I sprinkle cinnamon over the fruit. I make my own lo-salt soup out of all the left over vegetables and meats and pour some V-8 into the soup for the tomato base. For snack foods, I eat mixed nuts instead of chips. I believe in eating whole food which I prepare myself. Sometimes, all that is needed is to wash or peel the fruit like a banana. I only eat fruit maybe two or three times a week as all fruit contains some sugar in it. It is a mystery to me on why I got the UTI in the first place. Well, we shall see what to do when the culture comes back. Still on the cephalexin and will have to wait about a week before I need to be re-tested. Will keep you informed. Thanks and take care, Dolores & Mike . From: Cooky Stonkey <cookee1@...> Subject: RE: rheumatic Re: Toxin Release rheumatic Date: Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 12:34 PM  Dolores, Sorry I did not get back to you but have been in Virginia to visit my son since Thursday. Ok about that sex in the hot tub…haha…you can still fool around and that can cause problems too but I won’t say anymore about that. I would call the pharmacy for questions about Minocin and taking other meds with it. They are very knowledgeable. Either way a while without Minocin would not cause major problems. I hope by now you have resolved your UTI. Hugs, cooky Hi Cooky! Some wonderful questions and answers, but no, I am just the right size for my height and actually have difficulty maintaining my weight since I was diagnosed with scleroderma. (2005) No, we don't have a bath tub.
