Hello all,

My dad is in phillipines and I asked him about getting Antibiotics. HE can

get the Wyeth brand Minocin, but not any pelletized version. Has anyone had

success with this brand. I am having difficulty finding a doc and want to try on

my own. The cost of the drug there is low of course. Otherwise I could consider

doxycyclin instead as this works even if it is generic?

Please give me any input you have. I may go to my naturopath who can do some

blood testing and get some testing done by my GP as to sed rate etc as part of

my annual physical.

Kinga,

I would say go for it. Wyeth should be pelletized. Are you sure it is not

minocycline? Wyeth could have a generic in the phillipines. ..Just thinking.

don't know for sureif they do. BUT if it were me getting a chance to do it.I

would! Before you start taking it I suggest you get mycoplasma testing(for

all the mycoplasmas) done so you know what you are dealing with. Also a good

idea for future reference. Good luck.

Kinga,

I went into remission on the Lederle generic minocycline which later became

Wyeth during that time.

The capsule was blue and orange exactly like the pelleted version only had

powder inside.

I started with 100mg per day for the first two weeks and then went up to 100mg

am and 100mg pm. After reaching remission/control I had heard that the

Lederle/Wyeth gemeric was not going to be available in Canada anymore so

switched to the brand which is now Steiffel and take 100mg on Mon and Thurs as a

maintenance dose.

hth.

The unfortunate thing is that our health insurance doesnt' cover mycoplasma

testing in this situation. I don't even think labs in Canada do it from what I

have checked. Cost is from $225 to $800., and if you need to get it done

periodically, then it adds to the cost.

Of course my family doc is moving and I am getting a new one, so this is bad

timing. The new doc will start in July.

Kinga,

This is the lab I sent my blood to for myco testing. I included the phone #

so you can call and ask if they still do testing and the cost if you do it

on your own. You could also just start the med. It's your call.

Let me know what you find out.

Hi,

I do not have arthritis. I have dermatomyositis and mixed connective tissue

disease with CREST.

It took approximately two years after starting the AP to reach

remission/control.

Dolores,

The decreased dose works quite well for me. I have considered dropping it to

50mg twice a week but have a lot of the 100mg minocin to use up and am also a

bit reluctant to go down just in case.

Kinga,

I started out taking Lederle generic. Wyeth bought out Lederle, Then it was

Wyeth-Ayherst and now Steiffel which is the manufacturer in Canada of the brand

name and Triax makes it in the US.

I take the Steiffel brand name minocin - no longer on a generic.

I have arthitus in my hands and back. I also have fibromyalgia. I a

put on a fentenil patch everyother day. flexeral and tramadol for pain.

I take a yearly Iv for bone thinning.

many years ago I was in a support group that tested with a lab in Los

Angeles for mycoplasma. Ihad a heart bypass and a stent and sort of gave

up. I would again like to get re tested. What lab do you recommend for

that. I have just started folowing your group.

I am also going to ask my general doctor if she will start me on

antibiotics.
