Guest guest
No you do not need to be off methotrexate to go on antibiotics. Matter of fact sometimes it's good because it will help keep the inflammation down while waiting for the antibiotics to kick in. So run to your doc and get Minocin and start taking it ASAP! Welcome to the group. You will get lots of good advice and stories here. Also go to rheumatic.com for more stories to hear about other people with yours or similar diseases. cooky Hi Everyone, my name is . I was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis about 4 years ago. After having gotten to the point of not being able to get out of bed without help twice, I had been doing okay for about a year and half. The first round was IVIG with prednisone, that didn't last very long however, the next round was methotrexate with cyclosporine, and I thought that was the winner. I am starting to go back down however, so I know I am in fact not better. I came accross the Fairy Lady's story, and was inspired. I am very enthusiastic to start on antibiotics, but read that you needed to be off methotrexate for 6 weeks. I was wondering if anyone has taken antibiotics at the same time as methotrexate, or if I should wait until I'm off methotrexate again. I wish I would have started this 5 months ago, when my doctor took me off methotrexate. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. __

All my CBC and liver functions were in a normal range, so I stopped MTX on Tues and started Minocycline on the Friday(w/o 6/1/2008) of the same week. I have read of some people who are on both MTX and Minocycline, without liver problems. I have PSORIATIC ARTHRITIS and have had all symtoms inprove on AP. I am taking 100mg Minocycline twice daily, 2.5mg Prednisone and 50mg of Diclofenac and am pain free. The PSA attack started in dec, 2007. I caught it quick enough that I do not have joint damage. It had attacked both hips, shoulders and my whole spinal column. Have lost some range of motion, but am pain free. Had not had any herxing to date, but only 3 weeks into AP
Guest guest
Hi, ! Sally in Little Rock here. I've been doing AP (100 mg 2x day minocycline and 500 mg Zithromax, 2x wkly, then down to 100 mg 3x wk of mino and 500 mg 1x wk of Zithro) and methotrexate -started at 10 mg wkly, up to 20mg wkly, since Sept '06. Ironically, I decided at the beginning of this year to stop full time AP and ended up with a sinus infection that I cannot get rid of!! I've had 2-3 while on metho and AP but cleared up pretty easily by getting off metho and stronger, infection specific antibiotics. Sooo, now I'm going back to my full time AP and may have to go back for another round of Biaxin (antibiotic for sinus infections) before starting the metho again. Also, was taking steroids (able to cut back to 5-10mg daily while on metho and 400 mg Celebrex) and still am taking steroids. So, yes, I would HIGHLY recommend AP with metho as I feel the AP kept chronic infection at bay for me. I think I have Lyme's (Dx by 2 good rheumies as Reactive Arthritis or Reiter's Syndrome-means my RA was caused by infection and I did get a terrible looking bite on my thigh in '92 and went from being sooo healthy and athletic to a middle aged cripple-BUMMER!!) Good luck to you! Sally in Little Rock From: Albornoz Sent: Wednesday, June 25, 2008 11:59 AM rheumatic Subject: rheumatic AP while on Methotrexate and Cyclosporine Hi Everyone, my name is .
