Guest guest
I started on methetrexate for 12 weeks, had lair loss and became way way worse in all ways (joint pain , bone pain, nausea, dizzy etc) stopped the mthetrexate and started on humira, which did help but I was afraid to stay on it since i work for a school district. Started AP and within weeks was feeling MUCH better. My hair contiuned to shed however, and also break off (hair can break off at the point where it was growing when you took a medicine.. so if your hair is long..it can be breaking off for years) When I added LDN my hair and nails started to grow back again!!!! I am very happy to have a new hair style and polish on my nails again!! Kathy
Guest guest
Hi Kathy,  I haven't posted to this group in a long time - since I've been in remission for RA for about 8 years now - I have experienced some hair loss lately, and of course, vanity being my middle name, I worry about that.  Can you tell me what LDN is and where I can buy it?l  I never did take any of the hard drugs out there, only antibiotics and supplements recommended by my doctor. I have wondered whether taking antibiotics long-term may cause hair loss.  Any ideas out there?  Ana in Alaska From: Kathy <sunbriar@...> Subject: rheumatic Re:Methotraxate and hair loss rheumatic Date: Friday, September 24, 2010, 5:46 AM  I started on methetrexate for 12 weeks, had lair loss and became way way worse in all ways (joint pain , bone pain, nausea, dizzy etc) stopped the mthetrexate and started on humira, which did help but I was afraid to stay on it since i work for a school district. Guest guest
Hello, my name is Eva and I have been taking low dose Naltrexone for over a year now. I did stop for about two months since I had hip surgery and was taking medication with codien in it. When you take that you can not take the LDN. I was walking very bend over had almost no muscle tone in the middle of my body, after about two months I could tell that it was helping me a lot and now I am almost upright. I do have scoliosis of the lower back and never will be totally upright ( leaning to the right LOL) but it has helped a lot. It also deminishes the pain level. I have RA and dermatomyositis for over five years, I was on lots of biological medications and on Prednison, for at least one year on a high dosage. That and the other drugs caused a lot of damage. I have been on the antibiotic protocol now for almost three years and doing so much better. I can walk, do things around the house and finaly lost that brain fog. Naturally I also take suplements with the antibiotics plus some very good probiotics which are a must in this regime. If you look up low dose naltrexone then you get your information. Your doctor must write the prescription and you need to find a compounding pharmacy, or use the one on-line: have your doctor fax the script to the one you choose or do it yourself. If you want to do it yourself send me a personal e-mail and I will tell you how to. Guest guest
I'm on LDN 8 or so weeks. Too early to tell, but I know recommend for AI disease. I am sleeping better, and much much deeper. Guest guest
Hi Ana in Alaska, Have you had your thyroid checked lately? An out-of-whack thyroid might cause hair loss. Another consideration is vitamin D and iodine deficiencies. Guest guest
Ana, are you on hormones? Did you just go thru menopause? Have a baby or surgery? These things cause hair loss. I have been on antibiotics since 97 and my hair has always been very thin and strands fine. So no I don’t think antibiotics can do that… but stranger things have happened (smiling). cooky From: rheumatic [mailto:rheumatic ] On Behalf Of Ana Willson Hi Kathy, I haven't posted to this group in a long time - since I've been in remission for RA for about 8 years now - I have experienced some hair loss lately, and of course, vanity being my middle name, I worry about that. Guest guest
Hi Cooky, Yep, I'm smack in the middle of menopause, and I was doing bio-identical hormones, for about a year and a half, but gave up on them when the cost became prohibitive. My insurance does not cover them, so that was that.   Maybe it's time to revisit them ,eh?  Ana From: Cooky Stonkey <cookee1@...> Subject: RE: rheumatic Re:Methotraxate and hair loss rheumatic Date: Sunday, October 3, 2010, 11:51 AM  Ana, are you on hormones? Guest guest
Hi El, I do have hypothyroidism, and have had it since I was diagnosed with RA, about 11 years ago - I take a thyroid replacement, and also take Vitamin D supplements.   The dose of the thyroid replacement was just recently revised down, since I have lost about 55 pounds in the past year, so I guess I was taking too much.   Guess a lot of things can cause hair loss, wish I could figure out exactly what is causing it and then fix it.  Ana From: Kathy <sunbriar@... <mailto:sunbriar%40wv.net> > Subject: rheumatic Re:Methotraxate and hair loss rheumatic <mailto:rheumatic%40> Date: Friday, September 24, 2010, 5:46 AM I started on methetrexate for 12 weeks, had lair loss and became way way worse in all ways (joint pain , bone pain, nausea, dizzy etc) stopped the mthetrexate and started on humira, which did help but I was afraid to stay on it since i work for a school district. Guest guest
Hi Sally,  Don't think I don't thank God every single day for this. I spent a few years of hell, but thanks to getting on the antibiotic protocol early enough, I achieved remission in 2 years.  I still take my maintenance dose of antibiotic, and plan to continue taking it til I die.  Ana From: Kathy <sunbriar@...> Subject: rheumatic Re:Methotraxate and hair loss rheumatic Date: Friday, September 24, 2010, 5:46 AM I started on methetrexate for 12 weeks, had lair loss and became way way worse in all ways (joint pain , bone pain, nausea, dizzy etc) stopped the mthetrexate and started on humira, which did help but I was afraid to stay on it since i work for a school district. Guest guest
Ana, right now i only relate to the years (4) of hell.....but i can relate to you constantly thanking God for remission, as that is where I am headed. This disease, loss of your life, finances, dignity, etc.....can only now take me into one direction....on my knees (which I have to do mentally, can't do physically) the direction of the Divine. sally rheumatic Re:Methotraxate and hair loss rheumatic Date: Friday, September 24, 2010, 5:46 AM I started on methetrexate for 12 weeks, had lair loss and became way way worse in all ways (joint pain , bone pain, nausea, dizzy etc) stopped the mthetrexate and started on humira, which did help but I was afraid to stay on it since i work for a school district.
