Guest guest
And what do you have no intention of changing! I eat normal when I go on vacation, but that probably doesn't count. I like coffee and chocolate. A cup or two of coffee and the occassional chocolate bar. The health food store sells a brand that is sweetened with evaporated sugar cane juice. I figure that caffein is pretty low on the pecking order of unhealthful things to put in your body. Sometimes when I'm hungry I'll just grab a burger or something from the local joint, but that doesn't happen very often. Otherwise I think I do pretty well. I wish I ate more organ meats, but the flavors are so strong. Pate is really good though. I also wish I took a minimal regimine of superfoods, or at least a teaspoon of cod liver oil each day, but I hate taking supplements. Its such a headache. The part that I most want to improve is eating more vegetables, I probably eat 2 or 3 pieces of fruit each day just because they are so much more convenient - no cooking! But vegetables are healthier since they aren't as sugary. I may still have a bit of my old sweet tooth haunting me
Guest guest
> And what do you have no intention of changing! Chocolate. Although, I'm not at all sure that high quality chocolate is a bad thing. Tons of magnesium, fat, and iron. I think I remember it being a decent source of some other stuff too. Coffee. I'm still using it, but I may very well eventually give it up. Occasionally (once every week or two) have a soda...usually Coke or Dr Pepper and usually at room temp. I occasionally get a sandwich from the vending machine at the office. After reading the ingredient label, I remember why that's a sin and chastise myself thoroughly. Ditto for the candy machine, but the only thing I would get from that is a Mounds bar because the only fat in it is from dark chocolate and coconut...no hydrogenation! I don't see myself giving up my microwave real soon. I'm probably going to continue to use my non-stick pans for awhile. They were brand new just before I found out they might be bad. Beer, although most of what I drink is unfiltered unpasteurized microbrew or brewpub beer anyway...so it's not too bad unless you overindulge. Single Malt Scotch. Some things are just meant to be enjoyed. Lagavulin and Laphroaig are two of them. I (and any scotch drinking guests) might go through a bottle in 4-6 months though, so this isn't a really big sin either.
Guest guest
Chocolate for me, too. Not very often, to be sure, but a few times a month I'll have a little bit. Also an occasionaly cup of organic tea. I used to be dependent on daily coffee, quit a long time ago, and since then I'm acutely aware of the effects on my body of caffeine or theobromine, which allows me to not overdo it. But the flavors of chocolate and tea are irresistible to me. On holidays where we have family gatherings, I don't even try to be " good " , but my family isn't really into the typical artificial American junk food, so that helps (my husband's family is a different story - Jello salads and Kool-whip galore, but I don't have any trouble resisting those, never liked them even as a kid) Aubin __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I drink one cup of mount hagen organic instant coffee a day. Other than that, my " problem " foods generally are just too many carbs, but all NT approved. Of course, I do " fall off the wagon " and eat junk food when I'm out sometimes, but not lately. They had a bitter taste some worse than others, especially the reds. I always said i did not like the taste of the artificial colorings and flavors. Chocolate is my weakness as well. I just love the rich smooth taste. It needs to be good chocolate though to really enjoy it! We will eat out occasionally (once a month, the kids love it) and of course eating at other people's houses, parents and grandparents. I will have my weekly cup of coffee on Sunday mornings and sometimes one more cup during the week. It smells so good, and my husband drinks it fairly regularly. Guest guest
I just wanted to say that I'm ENJOYING this discussion of what unhealthy things people still eat!! :-) Not that I like to see anyone having trouble, but it helps to know there are other " humans " out there, LOL! We've just started eating this way, so I'm sure I could list more things than most, but I can already tell what our big hang-ups are going to be... - the kids LOVE chocolate sauce in their milk. I must admit.... chocolate sauce in raw, creamy milk is deeee-licious! - I'm having trouble fighting the urge to call for pizza delivery or to run out for fast food if I get behind in my day and don't plan ahead for some of our meals like I should. I know that Sally Fallon says one of the benefits of eating this way is learning the important discipline of planning ahead, but I can see it's going to be a challenge for me. But, we're just beginning... I'll learn! - Dr. Pepper still holds a big appeal for me, but I don't keep it in the house, so I'm only tempted if I'm out somewhere and get thirsty. I think I could plan ahead for this one by bringing a drink from home with me. - I love my drinks COLD.... so I must admit that I pile my cups with ice. Does anyone have any studies to show why this is bad? Because lukewarm drinks disgust me, and I'm not sure if this is an area I plan to change at all... - My hubbie still drinks coffee....... Well, I've noticed after writing this how many of our bad things are drinks. Interesting.... ~Anne visit me online! Has anyone tried making the NT fudge recipe with chocolate instead of carob? I may try that.
