oral surgery coming up

I am having oral surgery in Feb. I called the oral surgeon's office

today to make sure they would give me a stress dose of HC in my IV because I

have to be NPO. They never heard of adrenal insufficiency, HC or stress

dosing. They asked me for my prescribing MD's phone # (thank God I have

one!) and were going to call her. I have not heard back from the oral

surgeon's office. I was dealing with the nurse manager, not the doc. She

said they don't have HC in the office, but they do have decadron (which I

know is a steroid, but don't know how it compares to HC).

I had no trouble at all with the anesthesiologist back in Sept. for my

GYN surgery. She said " You're on hydrocortisone, OK we'll give you a stress

dose " . She never asked me anything about a prescribing dr. or anything. I

got 100 mg by IV that day. All went well.

How do I handle it if the oral surgeon doesn't give me a stress dose? I

don't know if I could take HC after the surg. and I'd rather have it before

anyway. The last time I had oral surgery I spent the rest of the day

vomiting.

Any ideas?

Why not use HC cream before and if necessary after? It absorbs fairly quickly

and you don't need to get into snags with the oral surgeon. This is the easiest

and safest way, in my opinion.
