How much Armour did you take in one dose?

My doc prescribed 1 grain which is what I've been taking. I was just

getting ready to search the boards on dosing. I haven't read much on it

since I just started the Armour but it looks like people increase their

own doses. I know it's a little off the subject but is that correct?

Yes, I did experience this and it was from the Armour. When I got on adequate

adrenal support, the diarrhea stopped and has not come back.

Standard recommendation for someone starting Armour is to start with

1/4 grain, and then increase by 1/4 grain every week till you get to 2

grains, or temps get closer to 98.6. Some people hit 98.6 at 2 grains,

others are still far away. Once you get closer, and you'll know cause

your other hypo symptoms like fatigue, brain-fog, cold hands/feet etc

go away, then you only raise your dose every 4 weeks, because it takes

time for the T4 to build up, and once it does, it also converts to T3

and adds to your dose.

What is the reasoning for starting out so low? Is it b/c of the stomach

issue or is this just a problem I am having from something else? If I

can handle the stomach upset, would it be ok to stick with the 1 grain?

Sorry for all of the questions but suprise, suprise, the doc told me

NOTHING! ;) I have seen the posts about temps but frankly, I'm not sure

I have it in me to deal with all of that. Is it vital?

If so, where should I look for some background and guidance on this

approach?

Thanks so much for your help everyone!

Grr...my tummy is super icky right now!!

Thanks for your reply! So what are you doing for your adrenal support?

I read posts about holding off on starting Armour until the adrenals

were in check but I guess I jumped the gun. However, other than the

icky tummy, I feel pretty good.

I get my saliva results tomorrow and hopefully we'll start on the path

to healthy adrenals. Whatever that may be!

Here is a site to help you in your temp graphing.

Yes, it's vital if you want to feel better. http://www.drrind.com/tempgraph.asp

Then read this one, devour it. :)

People with tender adrenals cannot HANDLE large starting doses of

Armour. It gives some people major palpitations, anxiety, and they

just don't feel good. If your adrenals are fine, and they might be

because you're still exercising, while most here would pass out, then

sure, 1 grain might not be a problem.

Guess you'll know tomorrow when you get your saliva results how your

adrenals really are.

G'nite,

Yeah, I may have jumped to conclusions about my adrenals b/c I was

feeling so cruddy for so long. What has made the biggest change for me

is my eating. I realized I simply wasn't eating enough and when I did

eat, I wasn't eating the right things. So I was ending up w/ migraines

waaaaay too frequently and I had absoultely no energy.

While I have had hypo T for a few years, the eating may have been a big

part of my problem. We shall see!

Still wondering though, is the upset tummy a common side effect of the

Armour? Would it help to cut my dose some and then ease back up to my

current dose?

Barb, I read with interest your recommendations for starting Armour. I'm close

to ramping up again - but not on Armour, as I've had conversion problemsall my

life resulting in lots of RT3. Do you have good clear recommendations for T3?

I completely understood the instructions on Armour, so thought maybe you had

experience with T3. If not, please just disregard this post.

Many thank's

Pat

Sorry, no personal experience with T3, but common sense says that

going VERY slowly and forward, is better than one step forward and

two steps back. I would say to do your increases in the smallest

increments you can cut, and let your body's reactions guide you in

when to increase. That would be temps, symptoms, BP, etc.

The program I have my DH on is 1/8 grain Armour increases about every

4 days instead of 1/4 grain every week. Some people even react to

1/8 grain, but he seems to be handling it well, and these small

increases allowed me to quickly get him up to 4x/day dosing at only

1/2 grain total/per day, with 1/8 grain at breakfast, lunch, dinner,

and bedtime.

Good luck.

Thanks! I will give that a try. I've gone down to 1/2 a grain for the

past two days. My stomach has done much better but it starts to get

sick again in the evening--which I think is strange since I take the

Armour in the a.m.
