There si definitely a problem with your low cholesterol and as MANY

hormones are made from it this may well be the cause of your weak

adrneal function. No raw material to make ti from. I do nto knwo how to

correct low cholesterol but I have heard of ti before. And it can cause

low cortisol. I hope one of these docs can help you get straightened out

and live funciton would be ONE cause of low T3 for sure, but T3 is made

in other parts of the bosdy as well. but supplementing T3 only I feel

would cerytianly help you as well as the light therapy.

Thanks Val,

I knew that you too would come to see that for me, this is more than just a

hypothyroid problem. I wish somebody knew how I could raise my cholesterol. I

don't know that just sitting down and eating a dozen eggs and a pound of butter

a day would be the way to go, but who knows?

I think is right about the adrenal thing. I think I have read

that somewhere before. I think this will take time.

The liver and cholesterol are closely related. You might want to look

into doing a castor oil pack on your liver several times a week.

If it's any comfort, I am also hypoT, and have low cholesterol. I

know you have been down the mercury / chelation path, which I am

still doing. It could still be related to that. Do you take DHEA,

and eat saturated fats? Do you have the liver condition Gilberts

symdrome - low cholesterol seems to go hand in hand with that.

I've got much more complex issues and I believe I need some timed

release T3 plus an SSRI in order to come out of this.

Which came first? Low T3 causing depression or depression and

seasonal affective disorder causing low serotonin and low T3 in my

brain?

letter since I'm good with the melodramatics. It worked as he called

me as soon as he got it. I am interested in getting timed release T3

from him (which he prescribes) because Cytomel and I aren't agreeing

too well (major headache) and too wired up in the brain. Once I get

the timed release T3, I'm going to see how it goes and then consider

adding in some lexapro. Then, next September I'm starting light

therapy with a light box as to not ever have to go through this

nightmare of winter blues again.

Nicola,

What's your TOTAL cholesterol number? Do you have Gilbert's syndrome?

Yes I do have Gilberts syndrome. I am sure that with all the testing

you have had now, it would have been spotted. It is elevated bilirubin

with otherwise normal liver function tests.

My last blood test was in September, and the cholesterol results are a

bit complicated. I am in Europe, which may be different to the US.

Total cholesterol - 143 (range 105 - 190)

HDL - 53 (range 46 - 75)

LDL 83 - range <115

VLDL cholesterol - 7 (range 15 - 35)

seems that my cholesterol is still low in some areas - these results

seem to be showing that it is recovering slightly. I eat two eggs a

day, and red meat a few times a week.

Yours is much better. Even though 143 is still on the low side, you have a good

HDL (good cholesterol level) whereas mine is very low at 31 and my total is 120

(much too low) but it's good to know somebody else with hypoT has low

cholesterol. and no, my bilirubin is never elevated.

Thanks,
