Guest guest
Our family uses the FIR sauna by HighTech Health and we love it! Our son was diagnosed with Asperger's in Sept. 2003. We started using the sauna about 8 weeks ago. Our whole family uses it with no negative effects. When our son comes out after thirty (30) minutes, his body has a very distinctive metallic odor. We are seeing overall improvements to his condition, including but not limited to cognitive, behavior, attention, gait, appetite, sleep quality, etc. We liked it so much we bought one for my Mom and Dad who are in their 70's. They really like it as well. We have no financial ties to this company nor do we do paid endorsements. Our reccomendations are uncompensated. This is our personal experience and our personal opinion. Guest guest
Jill In the book, " Impossible Cure " by Amy Lansky....she talked about a dental hygienist that got mercury poisoning. They utilized the treatment Mercurius Vivus. It is a homeopathic. Just some additional information....we have a FIR but I believe (my opinion) that you can get more mercury out other ways. (chelation, homeopathic, etc.) Marilyn Edge jillybray <jill@...> wrote: On 23 June, as a newcomer to this list, I asked a question about FIR saunas (no response). Guest guest
Jill Have you read the book Detoxify or Die, I have found one in Third Space clinic in Piccadilly Circus Though it appears to have quite a chemical smell to it. apparently the best one is made of Poplar and is ideal for people with MCS. I have just had all the spec sent from the USA and have talked with them. I will most probably buy one. There is a distributor here and I am waiting for quotation for it. I would be interested in your practitioners details Fran

Sure. There are directions here: http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/HOW_TO_groups.html Please note that each " search " will only search a VERY SMALL percentage of the archive--- it takes quite a while to go through --say-- half of the past. good wishes, Moria > I write on behalf of my 35-yr-old daughter, poisoned by mercury > vapour as a dental nurse in 1986. > Thank you for any help you can give. > Sincerely > Jill Bray

Guest guest
I think FIR saunas need to be approached VERY cautiously. Andy has apprently heard from a vast number of mercury poisoned people who had bad reactions in this type of sauna. Rob. Yes, I have heard this. But where can I find his comments? I have spent over an hour trawling through the archives of perhaps two years (no, I didn't go through every one, but I've found it unable to get back to where I stopped, so do not feel inclined to repeat the exercise). Any help anyone? Jill.

My husband is a physician with 30 years experience and we did our research before making this decision. There are numerous peer-reviewed studies documenting the effectiveness benefits of using FIR sauna. In looking back through the archives, the only caution from Dr. Andy Cutler that I could find regarding the use of saunas were his reminders about excessive heat and autistic children as many of them are heat intolerant and have difficult sweating (which is the body's mechanism for cooling itself). I hope this helps. Lujene G. > > > I think FIR saunas need to be approached VERY cautiously. Any help anyone? I can help IN MINOR WAYS (only) with searching (including how to start a search " in the past " ). But finding stuff in the archive is definately hard. And I don't think there is anything in ANDY_INDEX on fir saunas.... good wishes, Moria > Jill.
Guest guest
So, my next question is directed to Rob. If no one can find this information, where did you get if from, please, Rob? And presumbly your 'cautiously' implies they can be used (my daughter has a practitioner to guide her). I have emailed Andy on this subject but without response so far. Guest guest
This information can be found but it's not easy. I did an archive search for " FIR saunas " and copied 2 old messages that came up in 2003. After a while, a message popped up that said it could not continue. I'm not sure why. There are probably other posts about this, as my search only went back through about 1/3 of all messages. There are probably posts on this subject by Andy on other list's archives as well. Maybe Moria can provide help with accessing messages by dates or message numbers, if possible. Here are the 2 that I found (Andy's comments are in quotes): Message #93358. 9/26/03 Does anyone know if adrenal crashes can be caused by …, or 15 min in the FIR sauna " Do not ever use infrared saunas. " Andy Message #95044. 10/14/03 why should FIR heaters/saunas never be used for mercury toxic people - I thought they were a good safe method of chelating metals? " They are not safe, they do not chelate, and the sales literature for the popular brand contains very little information that is technically accurate. Guest guest
I don't think so. Maybe Andy can look at it when he gets a moment. He's apparently been busy putting final touches on his 2nd book. > Is it different from the sauna this company sells? > http://www.watershed.net/ >> I did an archive search for " FIR saunas " and copied 2 old messages >> that came up

I have heard from any number who got worse rather than better using these saunas. > We liked it so much we bought one for my Mom and Dad who are in > their 70's. They really like it as well. Apparently the research didn't involve actually reading any of the articles cited in the advertising literature, as the ones I have checked did not support the claims made. Also it didn't involve checking the radiation spectrum, since most power is emitted in the near infrared in this particular sauna. It doesn't take a radiometer or spectrophotometer to do this since the radiator surface area is small enough the stated power can only be emitted at a high enough temperature that the radiant energy is mostly not in the FIR. Any radiator you can actually see in a dark room is not emitting much FIR compared to NIR. > In looking back through the archives, the only > caution from Dr. Andy Cutler that I could find regarding the use of > saunas were his reminders about excessive heat and autistic children > as many of them are heat intolerant and have difficult sweating > (which is the body's mechanism for cooling itself). This is correct. All forms of sauna are inappropriate for people who don't sweat appropriately. Infrared saunas are inappropriate for all people. The exception is those few that uniformly irradiate the body and transfer heat evenly. I know of no commercial models that do this particularly well, aside from the Heavenly Heat model which mostly does it by having infrared + regular sauna with most of the actual heat transfer being by regular (convection) sauna. > I hope this helps. > > Lujene G. > > > > > > I think FIR saunas need to be approached VERY cautiously. Guest guest
I have the book detoxify or die. We also owned the previous books tired or toxic and the EI syndrome by Dr. . I tried everything in those books for my husband who was a universal reactor and the worst case senario in every case she listed with his MCS. Many of the things in the book made my husband much worse. Looking back, he went from going on disability but coherant to being bedridden and incoherant for three years during the time we were following Sherry books. The books call for high doses of ALA. We know now that high doses of ALA displace mercury. I was constantly mad at my husband because he would refuse to continue with the things in her books. I would buy an expensive bottle of stuff only for him to try it once and get horribly ill from it and refuse to take it. We did a year and a half of glutathione and vitamin C IV's three times a week that were supposed to detox him. I have before and after hair tests and my husband is still toxic. This is because andy says glutathione is not a chelator and if you don't chelate you will still be toxic. The IV's do not appear to have detoxed him. My husband worked out in the sun for five years but he is still toxic. So just sweating alone " poor mans sauna " won't detox either. We purchased a heavenly heat sauna a year and a half to two years ago. It is just now aired out enough to where we can stand to be in it. It had an overpowering wood smell even with three glass walls. I think that The rogers book recommends niacin, and Andy recommends Niacinamide.
