This is going to be really bad for those of us buying fresh fruits & veggies

& whatever else at our local farmer's markets on the weekends.

I am forwarding this information to a diverse group of my friends and

family. I am going to borrow 's soap box. I don't usually do this

type of thing but I have just spent over an hour reading the bills before

the house and congress and all the notes and comments and I do not beleive

that this information is alarmist in any way! It is true and scary as hell!

I have been trying to ignore the " politics " of our Great Nation but this I

will not ignore!!! I have a right to raise chickens and goats not subject

them to inhumane feedlot practices, antibiotics for no reason other than

" public safety " and I will not be told what my animals can eat. Every small

farmer out there would be affected by this. No more Community Supported

Agriculture. No one on 's Island would be able to afford to grow food

and let us buy it. We would be getting mass produced- altered-genomed food

from who knows what country??? We may no longer aquire food-borne naturally

occuring found-in-the dirt illnesses but we might all mutate from the

chemicals.

It seems that even the freedom to have the choice to buy organic meat and

eggs is under attack and that infuriates me. If this legislation passes I

could not sell you an egg out of my yard without having complied with every

spray, antibiotic, preservative, non-organic, non-raw food law without being

levied a $100,000.00 dollar fine. (Not that I would sell you an egg but if

the ecomony continues to crash you might want to be really good friends with

me) During the Gold Rush eggs in California could fetch FIFTY CENTS EACH!!!

When the ecomony falls apart I am going to be able to sustain my family.

I have never considered myself an activist but I am MAD! But probably being

tracked for writing this and will be voting from jail in the next election

providing we still live in a Democracy in four years.

bill is H.R. 875 and the Senate is considering a similar bill. While we do

support DIVESTING THE FDA and USDA of their often mis-used food authority,

we do not support these bills.

If Congress insists upon passing these bills, it is very important that

Congress write into these bills specific language protecting organic and

small family farms and ranches. These enterprises and all natural products,

including organic and natural food products and Dietary Supplements, must be

exempted from the controls of these bills.

Such products and such farms and ranches are not part of the food safety

problem. The problem is with mega-farms and agra business facilities.

We demand that our natural and organic food products, Dietary Supplements

and their producers be protected from the increased regulation of food

producers provided in these pending bills and any similar enactments.

ANOTHER THOUGHT

The scariest and most disturbing of all of this is that there is legislation

in these two bills that if they passed would right now immediately--begin

changing the way farmers are allowed to process seeds. If this legislation

were to pass we may not even be allowed in the future to grow our own

food--there are major seed companies behind these bills pushing hard for new

regulation to prevent seed contamination. If the seed company has its

way-it could become a crime to plant a back yard garden and save seed for

the following year. Can you even imagine the ethical disparity in creating

seeds that will only germinate once and not propogate a species! Causing us

the consumer to be forced to purchase an abomination each year to sustain

our families---This is disgusting on a whole new level. UNHOLY- truly. Yet

a number of commercial crops are already being produced this way...
