Guest guest
there's a lot of people,,including good docs that feel saliva labs are good for cortisol,,but not good for thyroid and espescially sex hormones. my estrodial came in 5 times higher than normal which was bs as Ive had no gyno symptoms at all and my free t4 was at the very top of range while just 2 weeks earlier it was below midrange in blood which made more sense. for now on,,Im only using saliva testing for cortisol. its best to stick with blood tests for thyroid and espescially sex hormones in my opinion > > Just got my saliva labs from Diagnos Techs and I am really questioning > their validity. Guest guest
BUt the saliva looks at tissue levels of the hormones which I why I liek them! BUT having low Tissue levels of T3 for me on T3 only when my cortilsl has NOT been low is ridiculous. And having a high TSH wiht normal bpdy temps is also not right, but always before the saliva matched my sympotms perfectly, especially for the thyroid. I really think it is due to the samples being old which is what I was asking. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
I agree with the sex hormones being off. My last two came back super high in progesterone and I am actually low. After researching I found several reports that said it is a common problem with saliva tests, especially with progesterone. It went on to say how what you eat the day before and that day impacts it (chocolate for example, completely throws off the progesterone) and even your shampoo and other exposures can throw it off. I like it for T3 and cortisol, but don't think it is reliable for sex hormones. Guest guest
, What is " old " ? How many days? My last sample was probably old...taken on the 9th and they didn't process until the 18th, however, the first one I expressed overnight to them and I know my progesterone was off on both of them. I have a history of low progesterone and still have low progesterone symptoms but I, as well as several others I have talked to who have low progest, keep showing super high on the tests. I read a report I think was written by a guy from ZRT who said that progesterone can get thrown off very easily on the saliva labs. I think saliva is probably better than blood for some things, but I don't think either are totally accurate for cellular measurements since there are a host of things that can interfere and saliva is limited too. Guest guest
, Maybe you should call them and ask some specific questions like are certain tests more susceptable to damage due to age of saliva. I do think the progesterone is way off on saliva tests. Mine are always high, and I do use p. cream, but when I went off of it, I was a mess. So, I went back on it and I need it even though it is high on the saliva tests. It would be interesting to have them done again in a month or so and see what it happening. I don't know if you remember, but I had mine done in Oct and it was really screwy. Then, when I didn it again in Dec. it was quite different. Bad, but different. Makes you wonder about testing all together, doesn't it? K
Guest guest
Val, When my DH sent his in back in Dec. it was 8 days before they were received. There was a note on his results that the TSH may not be accurate because they were delayed in shipping. Could your estrogen be high because of your adrenals? I have to agree with you though. Have you called the lab about these results? Gale > > Just got my saliva labs from Diagnos Techs and I am really questioning > their validity. Guest guest
I have not called them as they were closed when I got them last night and are not open yet this AM, but I am calling them today. Yes with the low AM cortiosl it is possible my estrogen is high from thta, btu does nto explain why the great glucose results I am getting from the estrogen I just added since doing these tests. IF they are accurate I have moved from a stage 5 to a stage 3 which is good, except my AM cortiosk instead of being high as ti was for the last 3 years is now in the dirt. And my noon used to be at 1 and now is high. Everything else is pretty much the same. My last labs a little over a year ago showed normal sex hormones. Dhea remained the same at 2 -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Val, Are you saying that your glucose is affected by your adding estrogen? Let us know what the lab has to say. I have lowered my basal insulin 5 units and my meal insulin is WAY down. Used to be I took 18-20 units inthe AM for Dawn Rise and coffee now it is 5-7U. Dinner has gone from 30-35U to 20-22U and lunch many days I do nto dose at all and used ot take 12-18U. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Val, I hope your are going to contact DiagnosTechs and ask them about this. Maybe request a " do over " ? These results do seem strange, and if you have gotten results from previous salvia tests that were consistent wtih your symptoms, then worth pursuing getting these re-done. All tests are fallible, and I have no idea how they check for saliva that is " too old " . If they just look for mold, there could be a lot of degradation before visible mold grows or at least that is what I think. sol wrote: > Just got my saliva labs from Diagnos Techs and I am really questioning > their validity. Guest guest
Both my estradiol and progesterone were high in my salvia labs, the progesterone being very high. However, for me I think that is an accurate result, as it explained why I have always felt worse from supplementing either of them. So just my two cents, but I don't think saliva labs are always inaccurate for sex hormones. But I do think we have to take symptoms and individual responses into account, and not just rely on labs. If we become lab obsessed we are no better to ourselves than the TSH only docs. sol tapmom5113 wrote: > , > > Maybe you should call them and ask some specific questions like are > certain tests more susceptable to damage due to age of saliva. > > I do think the progesterone is way off on saliva tests.
