Guest guest
Dear , I’ve been on prednisone now for almost 7 years, and just one of the side effects is swollen ankles and edema. Depending on the amount you are currently taking, that could be one cause for your swelling. Also when I have had to stop Arava I end up with swelling in all my joints, including my ankles. Good luck, but check with your doctor on the predinsone. Those high dose packs are only meant to be taken over a short period of time normally. Good luck, Fran
Guest guest
- I took prednisone for a year and all sorts of things began to swell. It has a lot of side-effects! Guest guest
Dear Group, Have any of you experienced swollen feet and ankles? What caused it, and what did you do for it? Any information would be most helpful, since my rheumatologist told me two days ago that this is not his department. A polite way of saying, " I can't help you, go away. " A little bit about me. I came down with arthritis in 1999 at age 57. Since then, I had four diagnoses by four rheumatologists: rheumatoid arthritis, pseudo gout, polymyalgia rheumatica, and most recently, reactive arthritis. The reason for the latter diagnosis that this is a type of arthritis which can cause periodic fluid buildup in knees, from which I have suffered from the outset. My blood tests are normal. On December 30, 2009, I went on a gluten-free diet. This helped tremendously, returning my knees almost to normal. I then started to exercise on a stationary bike. On month later I experienced strong rheumatic pain and swelling in my left hand, something like carpal tunnel syndrome. This has now much improved following my wearing a Futuro Energizing Support Glove and applying Vanishing Scent Non-Greasy Bengay. A couple of weeks after that, and fairly suddenly, I started to experience pain in my feet, especially in the morning, so that I could barely walk. Later I realized that my feet, ankles and lower legs are also swollen. I now look at my feet, and they don't even look like mine. This condition is described by the phrase " pitting edema. " I have applied Vanishing Scent Non-Greasy Bengay, but that does not seem to help this time. Help! Sincerely, Harald
Guest guest
Hi, Harald: The knee water falls to ankles, but the source is " septic hip, " in ReA usually. Antibiotics and eliminate all flour products, especially fried--even gluten-free! It is really a colon problem so " irrigations " could help very much. Have You been tested for the HLA B27 antigen? And if You have not been on a course of Flagyl, I hope that Your rheumatologist would consider this, especially if an RBF guy; giardiasis and its ReA can persist for years due to dormant cycles when this protista is in cyst stage. This can be miserable!! I was pinned down like a live bug on an entomologist's card, with my knee on the floor so it would not move--three days and more and it took over a month to get rid of the lymph: Castor oil packs (an Edgar Cayce treatment) and ace bandage somewhat tight, warm and elevated, but get Your colon back in shape--ready to eliminate that lymph. This is an overfilled trash can, the colon that is inflamed and cannot receive any more waste lymph so it flows downhill! HEALTH, From: nealnatemom <andtwo@...> Subject: rheumatic Re: Swollen Feet and Ankles rheumatic Date: Sunday, March 14, 2010, 3:29 PM  Hi Harlad, I am new to this group - just yesterday went to a Naturopathic doctor for help. Anyway, late last year after a knee replacement surgery, I started getting swollen ankles and legs (both of them). It helped a lot doing hydrotherapy. I had 2 plastic dishpans - one with cold water, the other with hot, as hot as I could stand it to soak my feet and ankles. You can either split your time equally between the two or 3 minutes in the hot, followed by 30 seconds in the cold. Keep alternating until the hot water cools down. While not a cure, it did help me feel better and brought down that swelling temporarily. Best wishes, > > Dear Group, > > Have any of you experienced swollen feet and ankles? Guest guest
Hi Harold, My feet and ankles used to be swollen all the time. I showed my doctor and he ran some tests but I came away with no answers. So I started looking into edema to see possible causes. Per the Balch book, Prescription for Nutrition Healing, I learned it might be the result of a malabsorption of protein. I'd been eating more protein because of weight gain - it seems to be mandatory for women of a certain age to wake up one morning two dress sizes larger! So I tried the low/no carbs and high protein diet. I didn't lose a pound but I did seem to create edema. I told my doctor what I'd found out and he recommended taking digestive enzymes [Wobenzyme or Inflazyme Forte] (three tablets) with each meal. [i also take five tablets each a.m. for inflammation.] Now the only time my ankles/feet swell is when I weaken and visit the Chinese or Thai restaurant. Sigh! Guest guest
I have those symptoms too, Chris. I have so much swelling that I'm now taking lasix.I have a scratch on my left leg that is leaking fluid. My ankles are stiff, it feels like I'm being stabbed in my ankles by sharp needles. My feet and ankles have a red itchy rash.My wide shoes don't fit. I had to order ultra wide shoes. I've been walking around with my velcro fasteners open, that's how swollen my feet still are, even after 3 days of lasix. Guest guest
No, fleabitten_percheron, is not a reference to a flea bite. It is a variation of gray coloration in horse colors. " Fleabitten " is a gray color with speckles or flecks of other colors that blend into a gray. http://www.mustangs4us.com/Horse%20Colors/grey.htm <http://www.mustangs4us.com/Horse%20Colors/grey.htm> A Percheron is a draft horse. Guest guest
> I ask because about a month before I had the acute early lyme symptoms, I was bit by a flea on my foot. Have never seen a tick on my body. So just curious. I'm think I got my first Lyme symptoms from a flea bite, about ten years ago. I was bitten in my garden by something, causing a very itchy spot exactly like a flea byte. Only this time the spot slowly developed into a 5-10mm dark nodule under the skin; it is still there, after many years. Shortly after the byte I got some Lyme-like symptoms, like the recurring fevers, heart problems, mild electric shocks in the joints, night sweats etc. My doc said that is was 'stress', most of it slowly improved in the next years until I was bitten again 5 years ago, this time for sure by a tick with devastating effects. Maybe this tick byte was the second infection. I can't rule out that the first byte was from a tick, because they do occur in the gardens over here. But I never saw one and the itchy spot suggests a flea byte. If you check the literature many uncommon varieties of contracting Lyme disease have been described. Many insects and arthropods carry Borrelia but usually scientists say they can't pass the disease. But why would Bb infect these hosts if they are all a dead end? I'm sure there is a lot we don't know yet, because scientists haven't bothered to check (or worse, have only checked with their tunnelvision in full force).
