Guest guest
Hi, I'm going to be starting cortef (I'm a little nervous about it) I have noticed a recent post and a couple in the past that people have mentioned hairloss getting worse when on cortef...have many noticed this to be true...I ask because hairloss is one of my main issues right now and I cant afford for it to get worse. I noticed a recent post about someones aldosterone level being low and when that was addressed hair grew back. Should I have my aldosterone level checked before starting hc to see if thats an issue? Guest guest
I've been on Cortef since August and have had no hair loss. I haven't had aldosterone checked either but I would have had I known it was an option. Maybe having your's checked before you start HC will ease your mind. Guest guest
It is always a good idea to have aldosterone adn ATCH tested before starting on HC as especially the ACTH and ACTH Stim tests are not accurate once on HC. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://www.seewell4less.com/Valspage.htm Medical Alert Bracelets
Guest guest
What is the difference between the ACTH and ACTH Stim test? Guest guest
I have recently read of 2 different women who have experienced hair regrowth after beginning treatment for low aldosterone. Gale
Guest guest
>>What is the difference between the ACTH and ACTH Stim test?<< The ACTH Serum tests how much ACTH the pituitary is producing, and ACTH STIM tests how much cortiosl is produced by the adrenoals when the person is injected with synthetic ACTH. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://www.seewell4less.com/Valspage.htm Medical Alert Bracelets
Guest guest
Okay, thanks. They are both fairly inaccurate, no? I had the ACTH one done years ago and it showed nothing though my cortisol serum levels were low below range. Never had the Stim test though. Guest guest
MANY doctors do no t know how to interpret them. I dont know much aboutthe ATCH serum tets but I am pretty good at the STIM testing. It shows whether oyu have a problem wiht pituitary or adrneals and that is what they should be looking for. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://www.seewell4less.com/Valspage.htm Medical Alert Bracelets
Guest guest
My doc put a scipt in the mail to me today for Florinef. I'm looking forward to hair regrowth, especially my lateral eyebrows. >>>I have recently read of 2 different women who have experienced hair regrowth after beginning treatment for low aldosterone. Guest guest
I hope it works for you! Keep us posted. I do not have hairloss except for my eyebrows. I wonder if it helps for weight gain? Guest guest
I've been on cortef about 5 months, and I do think my hair loss and thinness is more pronounced...however, I don't think it's the cortef doing it. I also just found out that I have low iron/ferritin levels and this can be part of it. Also, after being on cortef, my TSH went from 2.54 to 7.9 so I clearly need to be treating the hypothyroid, which is the main cause of hair loss I think. I think what's important, and what I didnt' do, is to check iron/ferritin, and TSH within a couple months of starting on cortef...if you're not already on armour as in my situation. I was feeling so good on the cortef, it helped me so much in my energy, mood etc that I thought I was just fine. HOpe this helps!
