Thank you Harald.  Even though I was told by an allergist " statistically the

evidence is not there connecting foods etc with AS "   I knew, living with this

illness, there is a connection with our environment and arthritis. I have

learned more from this group in the few short weeks since I've joined than the

specialists I've seen for over a decade.

I just dropped in to visit...it has been a while. Regarding food

allergies... first, be aware of the LEAKY GUT SYNDROME and it's

correlation as a causative factor for RA. That is how mine started. I

had a bout with Giardia that went untreated for several months (not so

bright doctors kept telling me it was an allergy to dairy....). Damage

was done. Just recently discovered that it had created numerous

diseased areas in the colon...where the " good bacteria " had been

destroyed, the colon wall exposed, and food filtering into the

bloodstream during the digestive process. That food, in turn, started

the RA reaction, which started roughly one year after the Giardia

problem. I did a natural treatment to kill off the remaining bad guys

in the gut (using LOTS of raw garlic)...but the damage had been done.

Then started noticing that certain foods elicited flares. Started

writing down which things I ate, and if flares occurred. Was able to

establish MY list of foods to avoid. At the same time, was lucky

enough to be directed by someone in this group to the use of

antibiotics to treat RA. Got the book by Hammel, citing work done by

Dr Brown. Told my rheumatologist that was the treatment I wanted to

try. It worked marvelously. Fast forward. Now continuing to take

antibiotics (it has been two years...started flaring a few months ago,

probably because of the generic drug formula. Changing back to the

brand name....Vibramycin. ...and slowly improving). Also taking LOTS of

probiotics and prebiotics as well as nutritional anti inflammatory and

anti oxidant supplements. Trying to fix the leak, as well as kill off

the RA. Again, due to the slip up with the generic drugs, it is a

slow climb back out of the misery of RA...but I see progress, inching

along. (it has been only a month, so I have to be patient). I also

take digestive enzymes..various. There is no question that certain

foods will cause stronger RA reactions... you have to find out which

those are for YOU.
