Guest guest
Welcome to the list, ! I had to wait almost five weeks for my books but was lucky to have people helping me get started...if you would like a list of the permited foods, etc., let me know as I have all the good stuff in my files. Norma lost 50 pounds last year (or was it the year before??? How time flies!!)...she will give you all her helpful hints (mainly no cheating)...she did it fairly quickly and consistently too and she is your age (as are a bunch of us!) Now, I could use plant tips as every plant I touch turns brown and dies. I replanted a bunch of potted plants yesterday and am afraid to go out and see how they are doing!!! Guest guest
Gosh, , I wish I had had this done when I was in my mid-20's. Probably wouldn't have qualified, didn't start pushing 200 until I was in my early 40's, but if you're in your mid-twenties and have morbid obesity, you're not going to lose it any better than one of us who waited until we're in our 30's or 40's. Welcome!!!! Lots of good info and good people here. Pam New Member I just wanted to say hello. I am a new member to the group. I just started the process of WLS on January 14th with a visit to my doctor. (I belong to Kaiser) He didn't say no, but he didn't say yes. All the same, I am hopeful because he has previously recommended patients for the procedure and has seen successful results. His main hangup seems to be my age. However, I have done my research and there are plenty of people in their early to mid- twenties who have done extremely well with WLS. He did have me do my labs and is setting up an appointment with the nutritionist so that is a start.

Guest guest
Hi Marlis, Welcome aboard the " we've been there and done that " PLS group. Sorry you had to join us under these conditions but nonetheless until the cure or the miracle comes we will keep each other company. I, for one believe that this too shall pass. So hang in there my friend and watch the outcome. God Bless Yolanda new member Hi all, I was diagnosed with PLS in August 2003. I started out with an unexplained limp, then began falling for no apparent reason. All manner of testing and an EMG confirmed the doctor's suspicion. I began using a cane last December, and now use a rollator almost exclusively. It was either stay home in fear of falling, or get over myself, use a rollator, and " get back out there. " I still am able to drive, thankfully. I am 59 years old. My husband and I were lucky enough to retire early, and we moved to the high country of Arizona from MN five years ago. We are both avid outdoors lovers, and we spent the first two years in AZ hiking and exploring our new home state. Sadly, I cannot hike anymore, but I encouraged my husband to join a hiking club. Our three adult children, their spouses, and our grandchildren are all in MN, but we get to see them often when they come visiting or when we return home. My husband and family are extremely supportive and we've all tried to accept this life changing turn of events caused by PLS. I've been " eavesdropping " on this message board for the past two weeks, which is when I joined. Thanks for allowing me this forum. Guest guest
Hi Sandy, I find it interesting how there is such a common denominator with most of us PLSers. The limping gait and the falling, esp. At first, people were commenting on how clumsy I was, and that I need to be more careful! Good advice if only I would have had that control. I was even sent to PT to relearn a proper gait and did exercises to get back my balance. After a few weeks, it became apparent that no PT would help. That's when I was sent to a neurologist, and then to the MDA/ALS Research Center in Phoenix for a second opinion. Anyway, I've learned a lot about this disease and about myself. I've adopted a Maya Angelou quote " I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it. " Marlis > Hi Marlis and welcome to a great group of friends. > I am truely sorry you have this darn disease, but since you do you have found the right place to be. Guest guest
Hi Marlis, I used to be a warehouse person in a window manufacturing plant for 7 years, when I started the tripping. My hubby also worked there with me. We always held hands and he was constantly having to catch me from falling. He used to say Sandy what are you doing, pick up your feet, then the fatigue started in, then I started dropping things with my right hand. I finally caved in and saw my primary doctor which sent me to my Neuro, after all the tests she diagnosed me with MS, I did the shots and even the chemo for MS, nothing was working after 7 years and I was just getting worse, so she sent me to a specialist who put me through all the tests again, then she diagnosed me with PLS. Three years ago my hubby was working as a correctional officer for our state penn. He had to go through some intense training where part of it was being thrown to a mat around 50 times in one day. Well he ended up tearing his corotid artery in his neck which made him have a massive stroke. In June of this year he had a tear in his bowel that almost ruptured, if we would have waited one more hour he probably wouldnt be here. Hopefully in Sept or Oct he can go in to have his closomy reversed. My PLS effects my right side and his stroke effects his left side so I tell everyone that we are a whole person. I am 43 and my hubby is 48. Our sons are the greatest, they are so loving and careing and so supportive, we are truely blessed with them. I really like your saying, " I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it. " That is really cool, that says so much in just one little sentence. I am sorry for all the rambling on I have done. You said some about yourself and I thought I would tell you a little about my self. Once again welcome to our group. I look forward to your posts.Sandy Re: new member Hi Sandy, I find it interesting how there is such a common denominator with most of us PLSers. The limping gait and the falling, esp. Guest guest
Hi Friend, Yes, most PLS friends have urinary urgency. There are things you can take for it, ask your doctor. Welcome aboard! Hopefully the cure will be found sooner than soon so till then I hope you hang around and enjoy our company. Take care and... God Bless Yolanda New member HI everyone. My story was forwarded to this website. I have a question for you. I have been having some urinary urgency and sometimes incontinence as well. Do any of you have this problem also? Guest guest
Since you didnt leave your name I will just call you friend for now. First of all Welcome to our group of buddies, I am truely sorry that you have this going on. I have just started having problems with my bladder, its just terrible when you have to use the rest room and its busy, and there you are standing in a puddle and cant stop. Thankfully that has only happened at home. When I go to a store I head to the restroom first no matter if I feel the urge or not. I am not taking any meds for it but I think its time to ask my Neuro about it. Best of luck to you. Again welcome, Sandy in Oregon
Guest guest
Belle? I'm just guessing that's your name. Yes, urinary urgency is a common problem with PLS. I take Dextrol XL (one a day) it helps me. Ask your neurologist or primary for a prescription. Nothing ventured nothing gained. ...................welcome...Flora
Guest guest
, welcome to our group. This group is very special, as we all know what you are going though. Some of us have PLS,HSP and Als. It doesn't matter what you call it, its all a yucky thing to have, but we are here for you. I guess your neurologist has had you though all the different tests which is a process of elimination of all kinds of other diseases. I was told I had ALS in the beginning but after a year he changed it to PLS. So many neurologist are unfamiliar with PLS that they are to quick to diagnosis us with ALS. So many diseases mirror each other that only the numerous tests and TIME will tell what we really have. Is there a test that proved you have ALS? If you have any questions please feel free to ask us. Someone will always answer you...........There are a couple of sites that will be of great help here they are. _www.sp-foundation.org_ (http://www.sp-foundation.org) and _http://geocities.com/freyerse/index.html_ (http://geocities.com/freyerse/index.html) _http://www.als-pls.org_ (http://www.als-pls.org) ..........Flora/Florida
Guest guest
Hi : Welcome to one of the best groups going. The other best group is the Living-with-ALS-group. I belong to both as I was diagnosed with PLS in May/02 with slight abnormalities showing in my EMG's and in July/04 my diagnosis changed to ALS (but slow progressing). I guess what I am trying to say is that whether it be PLS, ALS or HSP, we are all here for each other. Whether it be information, an ear to listen or a good laugh - you can bet you will find all of these with this group of friends. Hope you stay with us. Guest guest
Hi Welcome. My official Dx is 'possible ALS' with a clinical manifestation of PLS...that's going on year 6 now. I'd have rather won the lottery. How about you? Are you working? If so I strongly urge you to check out the legal section on the ALSA website. Before all the privacy acts my employer planted a sales rep in my neuros office during my visit, then the company tried to fire me. I had to hire a lawyer. Real compassionate of them huh? If you would like to talk, vent, orr ask questions just let me know. Eva in WV > > Hello > My name is Myers.I live Tulsa,Ok.
