Hello to the group----

I was here and posting 6 years ago when I first got raging high sero-

positive RA; RF of 3000; CRP 125; sed. rate 285; one sick puppy.

What a journey.

Started AP (200mg brand-name minocin per day) in summer 2003. By

spring 2004 my numbers were all in half (1500/62/90.) Then I got

worried about the long-term effect of the antibiotics and quit for one

year. Wrong move. The bugs came back twice as fierce. I restarted with

Minocin, plus plaquenil @200mg/day and clindamycin

1200mg/day for five days IV one week per month. My numbers are going

back down now (1950/36/66.)

I saw the blurb on Mercola's email newsletter for LDN (low-dose

Naltrexone,) went to the site, examined it thoroughly, was convinced

that it couldn't hurt to try it.

I started 12 days ago, and about 6 days ago, realized that for the

first time in 6 years I'M NOT STIFF IN THE MORNING. At all. AND I have

more core strength during the day. Here's a copy of an email I sent to

my circle almost 3 weeks ago. It's my fondest wish that it could help

many of you along the path to remission. Please ask any questions you

want to through this forum or contact me privately through my website.

I'll keep you all posted as a naltrexone guinea pig...

Best....

Hello, my dears---

go here:

http://www.low dose naltrexone.org/

Take a look at the results from the latest clinical trials.

This may, MAY, be the people's revolution in the treatment of chronic

disease we've been waiting and praying for:

1. low cost---a buck a day at retail.

2. generic

3. FDA approved since 1984

4. in constant use since 1965, at a daily dosage between 15 and 100

times the dosage recommended for this protocol,

with no reported short or long-term negative side effects

5. it is NOT an immunosuppressant; it's a natural immune system BOOSTER

6. spectacular, even extraordinary results in trial after trial around

the world, and just beginning to be tested more and more intensively

7. reputable, successful, mainstream integrative physicians on board

I've started my own nightly dose; please send me your best energy;

I'll keep you posted.

I aggressively hope and entreat you to take some time to look into

this and spread it around; it just may cause a radical positive change

in the life of people you love. Please take this seriously; I don't

speak lightly or frivolously about these topics.

My best to you

Thanks ,

I too was going to do the naltrexone 2 years ago but I chickened out. I

think I may just look more into it now. On AP 12 years and in remission but

still have those aching muscles from the fibro that doesn't seem to want to

quit.

Hello, :

I just wanted to follow-up on your Feb 2nd posting to determine if you feel the

naltrexone is really making a difference for you.  I know that Minocin (like

all tetracycline drugs) will only keep an organism from multiplying and that any

bugs that remain have to get bumped off by one's own immune system. That's

probably why Dr. Mercola recommends his Nutritional Typing -- to change one's

diet and perhaps add supplements to boost the immune system.  His method

probably takes more time to kick in, whereas the naltrexone appears to work more

quickly -- and we all want to get out of pain as quickly as possible.  Let us

know how you are doing, including side effects, if any.

It makes sense to me that those who have been on A/P for a while before it

stopped working possibly were  doing little, if anything, to boost their immune

systems so perhaps the bugs rallied or else there was a reinfection.  This is

why Lose Dose Naltrexone may provide positive benefits because it boosts one's

immune system.

All the best,

Diane Springob

Thanks, Diane---I was going to give the group an update over the

weekend, but now is good.

I started taking 4.5mg of naltrexone on January 15; by 1/25, I noticed

something extraordinary: I wasn't stiff in the morning, as I have been

for 6 years. I found myself springing out of bed, stretching, and

walking away. That is a big, big change. What I call my core strength,

the internal perception of how my body is doing at any time, is

definitely stronger. Dr. Franco is excited about this possibility, and

he is using me and one other person as his lab control study; I went

to see him Wednesday, gave him fasting blood and urine, and he is

going to spring for in-depth testing every month to monitor our

progress. I kind of had an emotional breakdown of sorts on that day,

because my body, my intuition is telling me something profound is

happening, but it's scary to open myself up to that hope---that hope

that all of us have: that one day this 24/7/365 flu will go away. I'm

so happy and grateful to be back on this list, and I'm newly outraged

at the dogmatic idiocy of most doctors dealing with these conditions.

It breaks my heart to hear y'all's tales of intransigence and

dismissal from men (mostly men) and women who are supposed to be

healers---who are supposed to have taken a sacred oath to do no harm,

to care about the patient first and foremost. For the past 6 years I

have been in a unique position:

---I live in a major urban area with a lot of integrative, flexible,

forward-looking, loving health professionals

---I got a sizable inheritance from my mother's death at the same time

I was struck with RA: $250,000

---my constitution is strong

---I have never been afraid to think outside the box

---I am absolutely comfortable and familiar with using the internet

as search tool

---I am not afraid to ask for help

---I saw clearly, early on, that most doctors have no frickin' idea

whatsoever what an autoimmune disease is, and basically couldn't be

bothered, and

---I had to be my own leader, my own health team leader, and if a

doctor didn't accept my leadership, he or she was fired.

---I could choose any doctor I wanted via my insurance

Because of the above, I have been able to work full time, have a

beautiful, active marriage, stay deeply involved in non-profit

activities, and grow my business.

I see this disease as a hard gift: something that woke me up to the

real magic in life, which is love, hope, community, and compassion. I

am so blessed that I feel like I need to help the hundreds of

thousands of other chronic disease sufferers that don't have the leg

up that I have/had. I'll keep you posted on what that looks like.

Thanks Diane, for your thoughtful follow-up. I'll keep everybody in

the loop as my journey continues.

Hi, ---on the website the dosage is usually 4.5 mg/day before

bedtime. If you're a lot smaller than normal the low range i saw was

3mg; the high was 5mg.

Hi, :

Thanks for sending such a great wonderful email. More importantly, I am so very

happy to hear you are doing so well on LDN. Your positive progress I am sure

has given every one in this group a very, very bright ray of hope -- especially

those for which A/P had or has stopped working to some degree.

You are so lucky to be able to see Dr. Franco. I'm a little bit jealous because

here in Cleveland, doctors' doors are slamming in my face left and right when I

mention Dr. Brown's A/P. They all seem to be afraid of or perhaps are not

permitted to practice anything other than " standard medical procedures " for R/A.

Imagine, I live in the shadow of the Cleveland Clinic and cannot find any doc to

help me!

I've reached the point where I'm going to see a doc (chiropractor by education)

who is so anti-Big Pharma it would make your head spin (of course chiropractors

cannot write prescriptions). Fortunately, he also has an extensive educational

background in nutrition and 'claims' he successfully treats R/A all the time

using supplements/diet modification to straighten out one's immune system to

knock off any infections; and this to some degree makes sense to me. He also

determines if there are any hidden allergies that may be compromising the immune

system using the ELISA blood test (Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbant Assay) which from

I've been able to determine is quite sensitive. The good thing about this guy

is if it is determined he cannot help me or if I insist, he does have other

'conventional' docs to whom he refers patients -- supposedly these docs are not

hard-core conventional but rather always try to take the least harmful approach

and are open to new

ideas. This, at least, will give me a friendly back door entrance to pursuing

A/P. Heaven know the Cleveland Clinic docs and those of the other major

research hospitals in this are really do not want to talk to me. I will update

the group after my Feb 28th appointment with this doc. If this nutritional

method bombs out or does not make sense, I will pursue A/P combined with LDN. I

really want to get of the methotrexate and ibuprofen.

Again, , thanks for the great email and I wish you continued success with

LDN.

All the very best to you!!!

Subject: Re: rheumatic Fw: Important Details You Need to Know About Arthritis

Because of the above, I have been able to work full time, have a

beautiful, active marriage, stay deeply involved in non-profit

activities, and grow my business..

Hi Diane: I have been reading a book by a Dr. Furhman who claims to heal RA by

fasting and diet. He is located in New Jersey. I would love to hear about your

results with the chiropractor/nutritionalists Thanks, Kathy

the low dose naltrexone group is good at advising dosage if your

doc is not familiar with it. 4.5 mg is standard dosage of ldn for

autoimmune disease. however it is recommended to start at 1.5 mg and

workup. some find 4.5 is to strong and only need 3.0. the reason one

should work up is that it cause cause severe sleep disturbance and in

some cases make you feel pretty yucky so best to work into is slowly.

also important to watch for filler. lactose is often used and that can

cause allergic reactions. ask for avicel or acidophilis as filler. and

ask if the compounding pharmacy makes the ldn from pure powder or

tablets. the powder is better.

hi kathy i tried that diet and it didn't work for me. i water fasted 15

days beforehand as well. fasting brought down pain and swelling but all

the carbs (fruit and grains) he recommends did me in. i do much better

on a high good fat low carb moderate protein diet. see:

http://www.frot.co.nz/dietnet/reviews/mcferran01.htm he's got the best

info on diet and RA in my opinion.
