Guest guest
What did your DAN doctor recommend for constipation? This has been a problem for my oldest son for some time and I would love to know what your doctor told you to try. Thanks. Guest guest
Well, join the club. I am finally biting the bullet & doing the c-scope on Friday. Been fighting this for years now, but so many posts recently, along with some pretty severe pain has me convinced that it might NOT have anything to do with surgery. It might be the fats 'n oils we don't absorb, but IN THEORY, with this distal, I should be in perpetual RUN mode. Not planning my next bulk buy of blasting caps, you know? Since you've been around the block a few times, you've already tried all the obvious, water, MOM, stuff like that. So, I take it this is chronic then, or seems to be? I'd kinda like a showing of hands how many lean toward this, if you guys wouldn't mind? Guest guest
I used to suffer from chronic constipation. It was horrible. I did some research and saw a specialist. Basically, both the research and specialist said the same thing. I needed more FIBER. I tried all kinds of fiber. Some of them just made me feel bloated. Others did nothing at all. Theres all types of fiber, you need to find one that your body will accept. The research told me that the body has cycles and in the morning, when we wake up, the body is in the elimination cycle. So, this is the time for cleansing foods and light eating. Preferably, " alive " foods like raw fruit. I did found my elimination food. It is a granny smith green apple and grapes. If I eat either one in the morning on a empty stomach when I wake up, I am having a BM within 30 minutes. Total elimination. Today, I know longer have chronic constipation and it feels great. Hope this helps. ===== Peace and blessings, M Post-op, Proximal Open RNY, December 8, 1999 Dr. T.H. Guest guest
For me, this is not a new problem. Just wasn't this serious when I was younger. Then I became lactose intolerant, probably about age 36. Then, on milk days, I had NO problem, well a NEW problem. Then on non-milk days, nothing. Post-op, I got the free, promised diarrhea that is supposed to come free with my distal. YIPPEE. Then, in 1995, this started back up. Didn't get bad til 99. I kept thinking it was temporary! I'd have a few " distal moments " , and thought, there, everything is fine. But now, it can just jerk me right out of circulation for an hour, right now. Shoot, I was talking to my DOC and had to drop the phone in such pain. Right up there with labor. Then I called back and sched the c-scope. Sigh. I'm not sure whether I'm more afraid they'll find something? Or they'll find nothing & I have to live like this. I was hoping this part of the family history wouldn't find me. Sigh. Guest guest
I will be thinking about you. Let us know what they do find as I feel we have about the same symptoms. The Docs want to keep saying it is irritable bowel or something along those lines but it isn't. Just doesn't follow the same patterns. I have had this since I was a teenager and I was thin then. (Some docs wanted to use my weight as an excuse too). All I know is I can handle the pain but the dry heaves has got to go. Before surgery I would get real nauseated but could always control it but not anymore. Don't run faster than your guardian angel can fly!!
Sigh.
