Hi group,

This is the first time I've faxed my script to Canada

(NorthWestPharmacy.com). The script from my doctor said 100 mg Minocin 100

capsules.

I just rec'd my order and it's the powder, two different colors than what

I've always gotten. I called immediately and actually spoke with a very

polite pharmacist who explained that IF the ingredients were the " real thing "

and these are, it should make no difference if it's powder or crystals

inside. He has never heard of " time released " and said there are no antibiotics

made that are time released. I paid $165 for 100 and thought I got a

bargain from what I usually

pay from my drug store. Now I'm getting nervous and thinking these aren't

going to do the job and I'll have a huge back slide.

I tried Doxy many yrs ago and it did not work for me. I've never tried the

powdered minocin.

Any ideas or feedback will be much appreciated.

thanks,

Judy

Hi Ute,

I just wrote the name of the company you said that have the pelleted form

of Minocin. Thanks very much. It seems that Lynn and as you said, many

others, use the powdered, as long as it's not the generic. I will for sure give

my order a try and keep a close watch on how I feel. If I need to, I can

reorder and get the ones you're talking about.

Thanks so much Ute...I appreciate you and Lynn getting back to me so

quickly with such great recommendations and knowledge.

This group is so great and a wealth of information.

Hi Judy;

Our minocycline and minocin are exactly the same thing and come in

a blu/purple and orange capsule. We do have pelletted and the only

difference is that minocycline takes 2 hours to be absorbed whereas the

minocin takes 4 hours.I use the powdered one and it works just fine as I

am in total remission.

Judy,

I get my Minocin made by Stiefel, which is the brand/not generic in Canada.

It is pelleted and purple and orange. I get it from Medicineshop.

It seems to me that until a few years ago they did not have the pelleted

form in Canada and our Canadian friends reported good results with the

powdered, as long as it was " brand " , so it may not be as bad as it seems.

See how it works for you. You can try Medicine Shop for your next order to

get the pelleted ones.

Take care,

Ute

Hi Harold and thanks very much for your info. I'm going to check your

informative web site now. I must say it's a bit confusing as all these 10 yrs

I've just gotten the minocin pelleted without any issues.

I guess what I'd like is to find out exactly where to get (in Canada) the

pelleted Minocin and maybe I'll find it on your site.

Thanks again,

Judy

Judy,

Minocin is a brand name for minocyline and implies a license for

Lederle Laboratories, now part of Ayerst-Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

My understanding is that Minocin is pelleted, so that the capsule

contain small spheres about 1 mm in diameter, not powder. This

pelleting is said to create a time release action.

Some pharmacists may use the words Minocin and minocycline

interchangeably, but that is an error because minocycline can refer

to brand name Minocin or a generic. Some pharmacists may also refer

to " the generic. " This too is misleading, since there is no such

thing as " the generic, " only generics made by different

manufacturers. All generics will be different from each other and

from brand name Minocin because different manufacturing processes may

be used. Therefore, it is important to specify generic minocycline by

manufacturer (such as ) or to at least to know the name of the

manufacturer if that generic does not work.

Many Canadian pharmacies sell both brand name Minocin and generic

minocycline, which should only cost about half as much as brand name

Minocin. In Canada, brand name Minocin is manufactured by Stiefel Canada Inc.

For more information on Minocin and minocycline, please see my web

page www.tmgp.com/minocin.htm

Sincerely, Harald
