Been on Antibiotic protocol since 9/15/2010 with no significant improvement yet

Been

Hello. Has anyone had a negative reaction to a titanium implant for

teeth? Does anyone have any info on implant materials and metals and

RA?

Also, has anyone found using antibiotic better than generic?

Thank you, June

I have a number of joint replacements and fusions with titanium and to my

knowledge, there is no problem.

I have R.A./Lyme/Lupus. I have numerous joint replacements and four titanium

teeth implants. So far things have gone smoothly with all. I use amoxicillan

(500 mg.) a.m. and 1 azithromycin p.m. I only use the azith. if I have a flare.

I'm not familiar with antibiotic. I did take more antibiotic after each

tooth implant--sorry, can't remember the name except it caused me to have

diarrhea.

Best wishes,

June,

I have been taking brand minocycline with great results. I can't compare

it with Minocin as I never took it because cost was prohibitive, even with my

insurance ($1400 for 90-day supply; $2100 without insurance).

I started on AP just one year into my symptoms and 5 months of AP and I have

noticed a huge difference. My lab tests have yet to drop, but I have read that

it can take time. brand works for me.

Last time I had my prescription filled I asked at the pharmacy what brand of

minocycline they carried. The clerk retrieved the bottle and told me the only

brand she had enough of to fill my Rx was brand. So all you have to do is

ask the pharmacy what brand they carry. If they do not have , you can ask

if they can get that brand for you.

I started off at 50 mg on Monday, Wednesday, Friday for two weeks to ease into

it and help prevent a herx reaction. Then I went up to 100mg on MWF, once a day,

and have stayed with this dose. I feel that when my lab results for rheumatoid

factor and anti-ccp are in normal range, I will drop to a maintenance dose of 50

mg MWF...just as Dolores has found helped her.

I have heard from others who were on 100mg twice a day, 7 days a week for years

and years. They eventually had problems with hyper pigmentation and stopped

taking minocycline with return of symptoms. From what I've read, 100 mg twice a

day, three days a week is a sufficient dose. More is not always better. And I

have ordered Vitamin K to help prevent hyper pigmentation. Can someone tell me

the suggested dose to take?

Dolores, I hope you are feeling better now that you finally received your

Minocin. Thanks for all your wisdom and support on this group. Amy

You are welcome. Good luck if you decide to have a tooth implant.

Taking amoxicillan causes the " runs " . My daughter's Pediatrician suggest taking

a Acidophilus and Probiotic supplement which helps with the stomach problems

when taking amoxicillan. You can get this in a pill form from Trader Joe's in

the dietary supplement shelf.
