Guest guest
Someone asked how I made out with the Infectious Disease Dr and the mycoplasma idea. The Dr. believes that I don't have a mycoplasma infection since my condition responds to quinine based drugs. After hearing this I went back to the books and found this: Cryptosporidiosis (a Cryptosporidium infection). This protozoan is in most water supplies and cannot be killed even with straight bleach. It comes from fecal matter in water among other causes. It causes diarrhea in its acute form, but if the disease goes chronic, it causes: Sinusitis, Otitis, Tracheitis, Bile and Pancreatic duct problems. Cryptosporidia cannot be killed. It is comprised by oocysts, small eggs that produce sporozoites (worm like things) in 2 week cycles. The sporozoites are susceptible to Zithromax and a number of other antibiotics. But the eggs stay firmly nestled in the lining of your gut. I was going to wait till I got an " acid fast stool " test before I wrote this, rather than give out bad theories. They only found this disease in humans in 1976 and it is usually not tested for. Blood tests wont show it. Only the stool test or biopsy. The oocysts are very small and are not filtered in the water supply. I grew up on Staten Island NY. Home of the worlds largest landfill, it had septic problems when I was growing up. Flooded sewers etc. I had several years (6-10 yrs old) of severe stomach cramps and diarrhea that was dismissed, after numerous GI series, as a nervous stomach. Like I said, I was waiting to get tested. In the interim, I have started taking a form of Lactobacillus. L. Reuteri has been shown to be somewhat effective at reducing the load. At least that is what a article on Medscape indicated. Should we all get tested? Is it another dead end. I don't know. But it is interesting that some of our drug protocols for RP also work with Cryptosporidiosis (antibiotics). It can't be killed. It recurs. We relapse. It can cause sinusitis, Otitis (ears) and Tracheitis (swelling of the trachea). You get this stuff by coming into contact with animal fecal matter. Turkeys get a variety. Dogs pass it. It is in 95% of the USA's surface water. They say it causes diarrhea except in immunocompromised individuals where it can turn chronic. I go in 2 weeks for the test. I will let you know.
