Guest guest
How are you? Fine I hope. Yesterday, I began my Methotrexate, 7.5 mg weekly by tablet. I woke early during the RA flairing period of 2-4 am, except I wasn't aching. It was as though the MTX interrupted the inflammation process as it does. I have had a swollen left knee for far too long and a sore tendon connected to it. In addition, I would like the golf ball on my left ankle to subside. Coincidentally, I went for an MRI scan to take images of a suspected ruptured tenon which was attached to my thumb. Hopefully, a surgoen will reconnect this to my thumb, (Note to self- consult an atlas of the body). I will still take Minocin which I have been doing for 3 years and all was well on this protocol until, Minocin, the brand name, taken off the market and I found, I feel, that the generics, I took were less efficacious and my blood tests reflect that, all indicating higher inflammation again. Someone said that nowI am back on the Minocin, it could take 6 months for my ESR levels to come back to normal. Please could you share what the first days and weeks after first taking MTX were like. Thank you so much. Ken.
Guest guest
I am not answering your question but I do know that you can buy minocin from Canada. Guest guest
When I took Methotrexeate, I became very nauseous, even at low dose. After a few weeks, however, my symptoms improved. But, my hemoglogin dropped dramatically, and my liver enzymes skyrocketed. All in all, after two attempts to stay on this drug, it was decided my body would not tolerate it. I hope you have better luck with it than I did. We are all different. **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms and advice on AOL Money & Finance. Guest guest
Hi Ken; If you are seriously considering MTX take it only as a short term thing. It did work fairly well for me when my SD was bad and like a dummy I stayed on it for 3 years before I found out about AP.I nearly went into liver failure, the pain was so bad that the only position that was comfortable was standing up.Sitting was excrutiating and lying down was worse. This lasted for over 4 months. To top it off I had nausea and lost a lot of hair that has not grown back as well as I had hoped, even 5 years later it is thin. Guest guest
Dear Ken, Last year i was on methetrexate. 12mg once a week. at first i didnt notice anything at all. but as the weeks went by, I noticed that 2-3 days after taking it I would be dizzy and nauseous (spell?). I lost my energy, my hair started coming out just a little. but then after a few more weeks, my pain got WORSE , not better. Id be alseep and wake up to shooting pain down the long bones in my legs. My hip got so stiff I could barely move it, the artritis seemed to be spreading. It started in my hands and then went to my knees , hip, ankles, so after 12 weeks, I told the Dr that i was way worse than when i started and he said " well its just not working so stop taking it " . then he put me on HUMIRA, which did seem to help the pain alot, but the shots were not pleasent. I asked him if this doesnt work, whats next , and he said prescription pain meds for the rest of your life... then i got a DR to do AP and i am doing GREAT... Guest guest
Wow, I am surprised to hear all of the trouble people have had with methotrexate! I wanted to avoid it, too, just because of how it was basically chemo. However, my MIL has had RA 25 years. She started Methotrexate about 15-20 years ago taking 1 pill a week when nothing else worked, and her sed rate was shooting through the roof. It has been a miracle for her. She is 67 now, and has very little joint damage. She rides horses, cleans stalls, gardens, cares for home and hubby, and is active at church. I am 40 and very limited in my activity right now by my RA. You would think our ages reversed. She is surprised I didn't opt for the metho right away, but I have a lot more underlying health issues than she did. Also, her hubby had a " V " , so she didn't have to worry about getting pregnant while taking metho. I don't know why she has done so well on it all of these years when others have such serious reactions. I do know it has been a matter of much prayer!! HTH! Blessings! Guest guest
I often wish I was one of those folks who can take metho, instead of spending years researching alternative therapies and remedies to the point I feel like having a nervous breakdown. They must have copper piping inside them or something !
Guest guest
Leoni:) I liked your humorous, sad truth. I had so many problems with MTX that it totally burned me from taking a traditional path with R.A. **************Need a new ride? Check out the largest site for U.S. used car listings at AOL Autos. Guest guest
leonie high inflamm gone unchecked can also lead to other problems like cardiovascular disease. RA can also attack organs like eyes, lungs, heart in later stages and severe cases. also think of the effects of no exercise on our bodies after prolonged periods - not good for heart either, right? also when joints are in very bad shape, what quality of life is there? we need to do things, be involved to be happy. these are the things that drove me to finally do something re unchecked inflamm. every med whether antibiot. or anti-inflamm. or dmard involves risk to a certain degree. we have to find the choice that works for us. monique
