Guest guest
Hi Michele, I wanted to respond, but I really don't have any words of wisdom. n is 18, and we are facing some of the same issues. She is a bright girl, like your and yet unless I watch her swallow her mtx, she won't take it. They can't control the disease that they have so it gives them some sense of control to reject their meds. It might not be rational or smart, but it is probably a normal reaction- especially for a teenager. I do worry with n going off to college. I have a feeling that she won't take any of her meds. I know n won't talk to anyone. She is now in complete denial of her disease. I think if her doctor lectured her that she might listen. How about sitting down with him and having a heart to heart. Would he be responsive to that? Guest guest
After my book, can you stand one more comment? I know one thing that helped my daughter is when she found out so many of her friends take medications and have problems too. They/we assume that everyone else is living a carefree life without problems. One day my daughter mentioned she needed me to reorder one of her meds, her friend said " hey you take that too, my mom and I call that my happy pills. " They were both taking Celexa (antidepressant) and found out that several of their friends take it too. And then when she went to the dorm she found out that her roommate takes meds for thyroid, the other for ADD and the other for asthma/allergies. Does he look up to someone that may struggle with a health issue that they manage with meds etc? Or if he wants to accomplish something perhaps he would be willing to take the meds as a trial to see if things improve with them. Best of luck to you. e bound for london <boundforlondon@...> wrote: , I am sorry to hear that is hurting so much. What can you do? That is a hard one. joe has never completely stopped her meds but she has quit some for awhile and realized she needed them back. I do remember one time when she was really upset and she didn't want to take any of them anymore because they just made her sick and they hurt (she was taking mtx injectable them and she had a horrible time with it). I told her she had the right to stop all her medication (she was 16 then I think) but she would have to call her doctor and explain to him why she was going to do this so that maybe he could help her find a better solution. She ended up crying for awhile and just venting about how awful she felt and how she wanted her life back-she had been a dancer since she 3 and now couldn't dance even one class a week and all her friends were connected through dance--so I told her I would call him and we did some changes again. And with her away at college I called to check on what meds to refill through our mail order plan and she told me I didn't need to refill a couple of them because she isn't using them that much or at all. One of them is a low dose birth control she was put on when she was having a period for 7+ on and a couple off from the Enbrel. But the extra benefit is that her skin cleared up and her joints felt better. So, one day she was complaining that she was hurting and she was tired of her skin breakouts all I could say is 'you have some medicine to help that'. I still ordered them figuring she would probably end up wanting them. She isn't on Enbrel anymore so she doesn't have the cycle problems anymore. So, I guess I have no advice for you. Will talking to someone else help? Possibly. If it was my son, then no. I can tell you it is normal, not that that makes you feel any better. I have a friend who has a son with juvenile diabetes-he is quite brittle and wears a pump. He started this stage when he graduated from high school. (he's 19 now too) And he decided he didn't want to live this way anymore. He decided to start smoking, getting into trouble, partying, etc His poor mom has cried and prayed so much for this son of hers. Thankfully he still was taking his insulin although he threatened not to-but his is such an immediate response I guess no matter how much he wanted to be free from it he knew he couldn't--anyways while they still had him on their insurance they ordered as much insulin as possible for him and it is running out. But he is realizing that some of his choices were just making things worse-the partying, the smoking etc and he still hasn't decided that he wants to go to college but he has a second interview at a factory with excellent benefits because he needs his insulin. And we are all praying he gets it. It is so hard to be the parent when you know what they need to do. Does he have a doctor that he trusts? That perhaps would talk to him on the phone? Was the mtx causing side effects that he decided were too much of a bother so he would rather not take it? Is there another option (not familiar with spondy so don't know there). I wish I could be of more help. When my son has decided to make poor choices I always tell him, " you may not like what I have to say but I say this because you are my son and I love you so much that I don't want you to be hurting. There are ways to make you feel much better than what you are currently doing. Guest guest
, I have to share another story about how " normal " though aggravating stage this is in their lives. A friend called last night with the same complaints except her son (age 18) has severe seizures (grand mal) and has had a hard time with getting them under control. He has finally done well but does not like the way the medications make him feel etc. And he has decided to start 'self-medicating' (read between the lines --drugs and alcohol). His doctor and pharmacist have told him and her this is like playing russian roulette for him but can she get through to this child? Unfortunately no! So hard for the mom. sounds like a great kid and I'm sure will decided that the pain etc is too much. Don't lose faith and if you need to come vent. e " Tepper, Michele " <MTepper@...> wrote: Not sure if anyone has any thoughts, or if I am just looking for a safe place to vent on this. woke up today and asked me how many Advil he could take at one time. Guest guest
- , I am sorry to hear that is feeling so yucky. You know Aundrea started her independent streak with meds at a very young age. I will never forget her saying " mom, its my body and I should have a say in what is put into it " . She was probably around 10 and was really wanting to stop mtx. Now of course we have restarted mtx with no control over this current flare and unbelievably we are still waiting to get an appt with the ped rheumy. I am calling again today, but thats a whole other story. I was wondering if you might be able to say to that there are lots of new meds or possible exercises/therapies that might help. Ask him if he would consider seeing the rheumy and tell him that you will not interfere with whatever treatment plan he chooses even if its nothing at all. Maybe giving him the feeling of control over the dr. appt would encourage him to the next step of going to it. (of course if you would have success in getting that far, I would probably give the doc a call with a little heads up and warning as to how is doing and the issues he faces both physically and emotionally in still fighting this disease) Perhaps, this is just a pipe dream but thought it might be worth a try. Guest guest
My husband and I had to go to the dr last night, my hubby for some issues he is having with his gout/joints and me for accident follow up, and we got around to discussing rheumy's. The dr gave us the name of two, one of whom he really would like to go to. So this morning I talked with briefly and mentioned this new dr. Apparently he is younger guy and likes to be aggressive in his treatments. For once, did not automatically say he would not go, which I took as a positive sign. Perhaps he is hurting enough and may be beginning to understand that he needs to take better care of himself. Anyway, I guess that I will keep plugging along and hopefully can get him in to see this new rheumy. Thanks for all the great ideas, they have all helped a lot! Guest guest
Your welcome Chris. I had forgotten about it till you mentioned changing from portrait to landscape. I think the reson why that happens is because the one who sends it has a lot larger screen to work with and when it comes to our monitors it just can't wrap around it all. My theory, don't have a clue if it is right or not! lol Virginia --- chrstncmk <dinkidino@...> wrote: > Hi Pat, Congratulations on your one year > anniversary! Guest guest
Hello It is fine if you are behind or even ahead of me when doing your exhales. This will all be determined on how strong your lungs are. When making the videos and DVD's I tried to say about in the middle so that you could all follow along a little easier. You should not be feeling anything in your throat. It should be more like a deep sigh, and the lifting should be felt more in your chest or diaphragm. Try to watch the instructional a few times through and work to try to get the exhales right. It is important that you do not stress your throat or neck when doing the exhales. Keep it gentle and as smooth as possible. Be Healthy and take good care, Rashelle Harness the Powerful Benefits of Oxygen with LifeLift. Oxygen burns fat, tones muscles, reduces stress Be healthier with each breath you take with LifeLift www.oxygenlift.net. LifeLift is the Original Aerobic Breathing Got my set of DVD's and have used the reflexology one and part of the #2 workout. I know I will totally love doing my LL with the DVDs but I have a question........Seems like I am always behind Rashelle with the exhales. Am I trying to exhale too much?? Seems like I feel it more in the back of my throat than the diaphram. And I think that probably is more like a Body Flex breath. Anybody care to share how their exhales feel? Thanks for all the input.............Chris .
Guest guest
Is it just me? Everybody here seems to set off an alarm or two. Nothing has happened to me yet. Not even at airports' security checkpoints. Speaking of airport security checkpoints- has anyone ever been stopped because your CI appears to be weird? It has happened to me like two summers ago. I was at O'Hare, flying out of Chicago... I had my CIs in my backpack. The security guard stopped me and told me that he had to look in my bag. I was like ok. He took the cases out of the bag and took CIs out of the cases and was like what is this? I told him that's for me to hear. He was like OHHHHH. Then he took the batteries out. Then he figured it out and once again went OHHH. This is my favorite memory with CIs. --McMilly
Guest guest
No, ...it isn't just you. I've had my CI for 4 1/2 years and have never had the magnet react as some describe (jumping off their heads and attaching to other metal). Perhaps this is because I have hair that covers mine and perhaps because my magnet isn't turned up as much as they have their's turned up. The skin on my head gets very sore if I turn the magnet up very high....therefore, I do keep it quite low. I've been in various airports and haven't set off any alarm in any of them and not set off any store alarms. Guest guest
Evon, Good to know that im not alone... Yeah, my head does get sore too. The left implant is fine but still tender at times and the right one is much more sensitive. So I have to use a weaker magnet but it keeps on falling off if I try to shake my head or run. Oh well. --McMilly
Guest guest
Hi Leonie, We've never had a doctor's name given to us for Canberra. That doesn't mean there aren't any doctors doing the therapy in Canberra, just that we don't know about them. It might be worth taking the Physicians' Protocol and the FAQ from rheumatic.org to one of your local doctors and asking for the therapy. Chris. Guest guest
Hi I noticed says she is having trouble posting to the group (if I understood her correctly). Do you have any listings for AP docs around the North Coast (Byron Bay) where she lives ? Thanks... ~Leonie
Guest guest
Hi It is great to see a post from you. Welcome back from your camping trip. Be blessed, be healthy and take good care, Rashelle Harness the Power of Oxygen. It is Oxygen that burns fat. Age better, look better, feel better. www.oxygenlift.net Re: Re: Connie Hi All, Joe and I just got home from a 3 day camping trip. Very fun even tho it rained all day Monday and into the night. We went to sleep to the pitter patter of raindrops on vinyl. I did my breathing the first day and then because I am not in the habit yet, forgot about it. Tomorrow I plan to get out my reflexology tape and watch it again. Also get back to the breathing, starting with at least 10 before bed tonight. It was such a nice surprise to see all the messages. You guys are so inspiring. It's good to see a few names I haven't seen for awhile. , as you said, PTL that Jake is back safe and sound. I can only imagine how happy you are.
