Guest guest
hello, just for the books, i found out that cytotec (misoprostol) could be less harmful than other medications for gastric ulcers, such as nexium or pantaloc just to name a few brands. this drug is supposedly better for those who have an ulcer brought on by NSAID use such as myself. apparently it coats the stomach lining, protecting it from acid etc and it also inhibits acid product to some extent. however i believe that nexium is far more aggressive in it's action to stop stomach acid and can have long term implications - it's what's called a proton pump inhibitor which means it stops stomach acid right from the word go. this is what my new holistic doc told me anyway, and it's worth doing your own research on it as this is just a basic explanation as i understand it in my tiny mind all drugs carry some risk, however after a bit of reading and comparing, i believe that cytotec is more benign than nexium etc. it annoys me that some docs don't give you any alternatives - they just dole out the drugs they have in their cupboard, which the drug companies pay them to keep, when they could give you something that is more suited to your condition. right now i'm taking cytotec instead of nexium and doing ok. also, as a few including carol have pointed out, aloe vera juice is of great value to help with healing ulcers. some people are even able to fix their ulcer using aloe vera, without drugs at all. i guess it depends on how severe it is. personally i couldn't put up with the pain of it... aloe alone wasn't enough. all the best, ~Leonie leoniecent@...
