Guest guest
Is this Rx only? Or can it be had without a prescription? Thanks, ----- Original Message ----- From: idlvr@... Sent: Sunday, January 13, 2008 5:08 PM Prometrium is the only commercially made natural progesterone available, BUT the half life is only 8 hrs. and therefore should be taken every 8 hours.? It can also be very sedating when taken orally.? If you can do the cream you would be much better off.
Guest guest
Prometrium is prescription only, but as with most meds, there are sources. Even if the half life is only 8 hours, it is normally taken only once a day at bedtime, due to the sedating side effects. I took it as a vaginal suppository to help with the absorption and bypass my liver. But to all of you that are thinking of taking it for PMS, please, please make sure you have blood tests done first documenting a progesterone deficiency. It can convert to cortisol in some people, giving you problems with high cortisol. Remember that we say to treat adrenals first, then thyroid, then sex hormones. I used to have horrible PMS, but after treating adrenals and thyroid my symptoms are 90% improved. It takes time and I understand the frustration, but you don't want to end up chasing your tail by treating symptoms out of order. Just my two cents. - Janet > Is this Rx only? Guest guest
Thanks for the good advice, Janet. I am hoping to get hormones tested soon. I have a plan and I'll be sure I need it before I take it. If I'm deficient, hopefully insurance will pay for this. Thanks also for letting me know it comes in suppository form. Much easier on the liver. It's always good to hear the positive. Thanks for sharing, Re: Re:Prometrium [progesterone]??? Prometrium is prescription only, but as with most meds, there are sources.
