Guest guest
I suspect the small HC dose is reducing your ACTH and thus reducing your own cortios in the evenings and at night and that is fine as long as it works! You need to work on gettign your thyroid optimized as it is stil showing hypo. THAT may help your adrneas come back to correct functioning. I htink you are well on your way to getting feeling much better but I would continue the HC cream as it ishelping you so much adn work on getting the thyroid optimal. Ihear ya baout HC heping wiht painin shoulders.. I haev injured my left shoulder a couple months ago at work, and just abotu had it healed nad reinjured it abotu 2 weeks ago. I am having on increase my HC for better sleep due to the pain amnd I was down to 12.5mg HC and now having to go back up JUST for thw shoulder. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Thanks Val, I do not understand the HYPO thing. Is it because my FT4 and FT3 are at the lower end of " normal " ? FTSH 68 (normal 2-85 nIU/ml) fT4 0.20 (normal 0.17-0.42 ng/dl) fT3 (0.34 normal 0.28-1.10 pg/ml) TPO negative (normal negative) My last thyroid blood tests 6/15/07: TSH 1.07 ulU/Ml (0.40-4.00) Free T3 3.7 pg/ml 1.8-4.2 Free T4 1.47 ng/dl 0.70-1.70 Are the blood results showing HYPO also? My temps tend to stay around 98.5-6 (no progesterone) but I have not been very sucessful at graphing them for several days. Plus half the month when progesterone is in my system I run warm. I thought that with my typical no progesterone basel temp. of 98.2 I was OK. We have learned that the ranges for thyroid are skewed towards hypo. Of course, endocrinology doesn't seem to work like that - what do they think they are doing, making " allowances " or " excuses " for the fact that we have polluted our Earth to high heaven? Guest guest
>>But if a person is diagnosed as hypoT on a particular range A, shouldn't they be exuded when calculating the new normal range B << But they do not calculate the " normal " ranges that way , unfortunately. Thy take say 100 people and what every their AVERAGE thyroid evels are in a particular area that is what they consider normsal with absolutely NO consideration for the fatc that 50-60% of that 100 people migh tactually be hypothyroid. Then they justify it by saying WELL almost NONE of the current population is reaching the high normals on the old ranges, so they MUST be wrong, when in fact we are knee to waist deep in the worst thyroid epidemic in history of mankind. Personally I feel it is a cover up for the damage the government has done with their fluoridation of the world which they absolutely will NEVER take credit for. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Guest guest
No, I do not use topical progesterone. I use vaginal progesterone (cyclogest) instead. Typically I use the cyclogest starting about 9 days after ovulation (after my am temp goes up). I think my own progesteorne drops off too soon and I have early spotting/bleeding. If I type the cyclogest correctly I do not get the early spotting/bleeding. Guest guest
Thanks Val, I will make an appointment to go see my hormone doctor. I am not hopeful because he said that my last two thyroid tests were normal and fine. My HMO doctor is even worse. Any suggestions for getting a RX for armor from my doctor? I have never even considered that HYPO would be the cause of my fatigue because I have always been told that my levels were good. Guest guest
I have gone back and forth between just a bedtime dose and a bedtime plus a morning dose. With just a bedtime dose I am more likely to have spotting but I feel better during the day. With a bedtime and daytime dose, I have less spotting but the morning progesterone dose may make me sleepy during the day. Guest guest
I asked because I wondered about the impact on your sleeping issue. I am sure Val can dissect what it can mean. Progesterone can convert to cortisol in some people, so if you were low in cortisol, the progesterone supplementation could have preferentially converted to a more needed hormone. > > > > > > > > > > > > I suspect the small HC dose is reducing your ACTH and thus > > reducing > > > > > your > > > > > > own cortios in the evenings and at night and that is fine as > long > > > > as it > > > > > > works! Guest guest
I do sleep better when I am on progesterone. Progesterone makes me irritable as well as sleepy. Other progesterone effects for me are causes some mild acne, eliminates libido, and can cause depression if I take too much or take it for too many days. It seems to have a cumulative effect. I increase my estradiol dose wile on progesterone to help decrease these effects. I also decrease my testosterone dose slightly to reduce the chance of acne. Progesterone used to cause breast pain and tenderness but since I added Lugol's solution early last year my breast issues are gone. So are you saying that possibly if I took my saliva test during a time when I was progesterone free that maybe my cortisol level could have been lower (if I convert progesterone to cortisol)? Initially, I wanted to do the test on a progesterone free day and not cloud things with progesterone but I went along with the instructions from the lab instead. Speaking of Lugol's, my Free T3 was 2.9 (3/27/2006) with no Lugol's and went up to 3.7 (6/15/2007) several months after adding Lugol's. Until today I never knew either level was low but now I am wondering if the Lugol's helped my thyroid function? I wonder if maybe increasing my dose would help? I think my dose is equivalent to 25 mg twice a day. Thanks, Kathy > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I suspect the small HC dose is reducing your ACTH and thus > > > reducing > > > > > > your > > > > > > > own cortios in the evenings and at night and that is fine as > > long > > > > > as it > > > > > > > works! Guest guest
I cannot comment on Lugol's as I got nothing from it when I tried it -- and I realized from reading the boards and groups that too often we jump on too many new things at once. As for the progesterone -- I think Val can explain it better than I can. But if progesterone was converting to cortisol for you, it could have 'messed' with your circadian rhythm or at least added to what doses you had been on. ie., if you were taking 25mg of HC -- but also taking progesterone, you may have gotten more cortisol than you realized and possibly if taking it at another time of day, it could have shut down your own production upsetting your sleep cycle. I am sure I am not putting this into words as well as Val or someone else could. BTW, I take progesterone as well (oral) and I do find the effects cumulative as well. I take it days 14-28 and feel really good the first half but the second half I am a bit more emotional and water retentive. I think my dose/frequency needs to be adjusted as well as I have a need for testosterone as well. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I suspect the small HC dose is reducing your ACTH and thus > > > > reducing > > > > > > > your > > > > > > > > own cortios in the evenings and at night and that is fine as > > > long > > > > > > as it > > > > > > > > works! Guest guest
Thanks for the cortisol and progesterone information. I tried iodine because for years and years I had painful swollen breasts for two months out of every month. Someone (probably Lyn) on Rhythmic Living said that using iodine topically to the breasts often reduced pain and swelling. I tried it and it was amazing that the topical iodine worked (started working the first day). After using topical iodine and reading the iodine list, I decided to add lugols. After being on oral lugols for a short time my breast pain was completely gone. I also noticed that I could increase my estradiol dose to completely eliminate menopause symptoms without getting estrogen excess symptoms. Prior to the lugols, I had trouble taking enough estradiol to eliminate my low estrogen symptoms. My last mammogram showed no cycts. One time I got nervous about the lugols and discontinued it for a few days. My painful swollen breast came right back so I restarted the lugols and have not had another breast issue. I cannot take oral progesterone. I get a horrible hangover effect from it that lasts at least a day (probably two) starting the first time that I take it. When I first started my HRT I could tolerate oral progesterone though. Something changed at some point which I do not understand. I am thankful that at least I can tolerate vag. progesterone. Have you ever considered trying vaginal for one of your cycles to see if you can tolerate it better? Apparently, with a vaginal dose, the progesterone will not have to do the first pass through the liver thing which produces metabolites that make some of us feel bad. The dose for vaginal is lower than for oral, if you try it you may need to reduce your dose. The other thing to consider is raising your E dose during the time that the progesterone is bothering you more. Taking more E really helps with progesterone excess side effects. Your E may be dropping during that second week which makes the progesterone side effects worse.
