Guest guest
I'm confused about basal temperature. I'm reading Dr Durrant-Peatfield's book, Your Thyroid and how to keep it healthy. In " Helping Yourself " section, page 204-205, he talks about checking your basal temperature " 3 minutes in mouth immediately upon waking " and says what I have read from others - that normal basal temperature should be above 97.6 or normal of 98.4F. Everywhere I've read says basal temp should be taken under your arm. Which do you do? What confuses me is that taking basal under your arm would be 1 degree F lower than taking it orally. Right? I've been taking mine under my arm for 3 mornings and it has been 97.8F, 97.8F, and this morning 98.0F. Does that mean my temp is actually higher than normal if I add 1 degree F to this? I'm trying to determine if my basal temp was higher than normal this morning. Thanks, Delores

Guest guest
I've been trying to figure that out too. I take mine under my arm because I can put the thermometer there and go back to sleep. :-) Anyway, I've decided (for my own sanity's sake) that the 97.8 and above they are referring to is auxilarry temp. I've gone back to different sites to check and they make no reference to adding a degree. That's my story and I'm sticking to it....for now at least.... The difference varied but never was a full degree. sol
