Has anyone had bad reaction to taking licorice root? I think that is what I had

beginning yesterday afternoon. I feel lightheaded and my blood pressure

(diastolic) is in the 130s which is very high for me plus fast heart rate (90 to

100). I have only taken (less than the recommended dose on the bottle) for 2

days.

Yes high BP is a very real possibility from licorice. Also the high

tempo could be from too much thyroid getting to the cells at once thugh

I have not heqrd of alot of folks gettign a thyroid dump from thi it is

possible,

Val,

Wouldn't a thyroid dump result in higher temps? My temp is about the same

(97.8). Also wouldn't a thyroid be over by now (this began yesterday mid

afternoon)?

If it is from the licorice, do you know if the high BP will correct itself

now that I'm off licorice for good?

Thanks,

Delores

Delores, I had a reaction about a month ago. The feeling was very similar to

when I attempt to start a small amount of T3, Armour or even thyropthin- not so

much physical manifestions, but crazy mental symptoms. It was reassuring when

Val answered my post asking if it could have been the Licorice.

Yes, I heard that too. It's only supposed to be taken for a maximum of

3 months (not sure about the length though) because of it raising blood

pressure.

I used an Adrenal tincture that contains licorice root for several

months that worked wonders (made by Herb Pharm) but the problem was it

was very expensive (I took about 1 Tbsp twice a day) and I felt that I

couldn't stay on it long term. One of the side effects of licorice is

increase estrogen - I felt the effects of this when I went off the

licorice - but while I was on it helped my cortisol levels

tremendously - much better than isocort. Lexie

Hi Nil,

I've been using Baschetti licorice for several months--since November

'07; I recently cut my dose from 1/2 cup twice a day to 1/4 cup twice a

day, mostly b/c I wasn't seeing any improvement, but also b/c I just

learned that licorice is considered an estrogenic herb, and I am not sure

of the effects of that.

Last summer when I couldn't get my temps up no matter what I did, I used

the Baschetti and had 98.6 all the time. I had to stop over the summer

b/c of water retention. That does not seem to be a problem now.

Dahlia

>>The MAIN reaosn they warn against long term use of licorice root is the

same reasons they warn against long term use of steroids. As it is an

OTC med peole can take it that have no adrenal fatigue and in those

cases it possibly could supress their adrenal function.

Val,

What do you think about the concern regarding potassium loss...is it

something to worry about?

thanks,

Dahlia
