I have a question and would love to hear from anyone who had or has a

similar problem. For a fre weeks now, it feels as thogh my fingernails are

actually coming loose from the nailbed. It is a horrible feeling, and it feels

that way when I pick something up, or type on the keyboard, etc.

Does anyone know if this is a result of scleroderma, or raynauds, or

possibly both. Does anyone know how to prevent this from getting worse and

prevent nail loss. If nails are lost, do they grow back. My nails are becoming

very narrow.

Wound up like a drum about this one!

Thanks Gail

Gail,

My son , who is now 10, used to be on methotrexate years ago before

we started him on antibiotics for his rheumatic disease. When he was

still on the methotrexate, at about 3 or 4 years old, his fingernails

began to turn black near the cuticle, and it looked like he had smashed

them. They progressed to green and black and several ugly colors until

they started peeling from the cuticle up to the tip until they finally

came off. One by one. It was horrible. He said it didn't hurt, but

then again he said his joints didn't hurt either, so who knows. Of

course the rheumy said he didn't know what caused it, and didn't " think "

the methotrexate caused it. So, to this day I still don't know if it

was a side effect of the meds or if it was another of his numerous

symptoms (his fingernails and toenails always looked bumpy).
