Many babies have been helped by a helmet at this age. has

improved a lot in his since 15 months. Improvement will be slower and

not as much though. I'm not sure how much the ears and eye will be

helped, but it is likely the head can be helped. You want to move as

quickly as possible to get the helmet.

I got an appt with the ped on Monday. But then I will need to be refered a few more times and have the helmut made. IF he will help me. Ugh I wish I had stood my ground and gotten it done sooner! Monday seems so far away. Why do you need a script anyway? KimFrom: Kathy Lora Jensen <kathylorajensen@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Wed, July 7, 2010 6:53:42 PMSubject: Re: when is it too late?

You need the script because it is classified by the FDA as a medical device.

Even though you are waiting for your appointment, I would start making other appointments now. Look into where a baby gets a band in your area and see if you can set up consultations without the script. I believe that Hanger requires the script, but CT does not and neither does many of the starband locations.

If you get the consult set up now, you can try and convince the ped to write the script on Monday and then go forward.

Also, check into what your insurance will cover. If you have no insurance coverage, then order the band as soon as you get the script. We were initially told that we had coverage, then told there was an exclusion, and then told it would only cover Hanger. We wasted three weeks by dealing with insurance AFTER our consult.

My daughter was banded with a STARband at 14 months 3 weeks. She had (has) brachy and not plagio, but she got good improvement and I don't regret banding. To the untrained eye, she looks normal now. These days, I don't worry about how her head shape will influence her life and I used to all of the time. You can see before and after pictures of her at this link.

Oh - I am not alone in banding late and I don't think that any of us who have done it (in this group) have regretted it.

Just an FYI... CT does require a script, so it would be safe to have anyways...

I'm not sure about the other two places, though. Good luck!!

I think Hanger has one in my area. I called them for their free eval and told me get a script first. I'm not sure if they are the only place here. Does anyone know of place in oregon to go so that I may bargain and quality shop?KimFrom: <jessicaroo@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Thu, July 8, 2010

oh beautiful, thank you so much. How long did she wear it? Does it take awhile to get an appt? Hanger said they had no physicians so I felt like maybe there was a middle step I was going to need to do like see a neurosurgeon or something?KimFrom: <watsonmel3@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Thu, July

My daughter wore it 6 months because that is the longest that they would let her wear it. I did keep it on her at night for another month, but this was unofficial and just because I was paranoid about regression.

Your ped may write a script. Mine didn't because she wasn't familiar with whether a band was a good idea for my daughter so she insisted that I see specialists. My ped mentioned a helmet at 12.5 months, but it took two months to see the specialists and get her banded. If I had this group, I would have know how to get things going quicker. I would not have waited for all of the appointments before banding and probably could have shaved a month off of her starting time.

I think that Hanger won't see you without a script so you will probably have to wait. I have no idea how long it would take to get an appointment. I think that every place is different.

But they don't require the script for the consult - we were not asked for one.

  • 5 months later...

When is it too late to start antibiotics? My step mother is 83 and has bad RA,

shes on every medicine known to man (except antibiotics) now her health is

declineing rapidly (I think due to all the meds) she is also very stubborn so

im not sure she would even welcome my advice on antibiotics... I have mentioned

to her that i have RA and am in remission.. she didint take the bait... Ive kept

quiet because i figure shes already got a huge amount of damage and her health

is bad already..but was wondering if anyone has started AP at a late stage and

been succesful . kathy
