Guest guest
I eat it all the time and do not have problems. Do your rinse it thoroughly and toss the rinse water? Quinoa has a bitter protective sheath that needs to be rinse away before cooking. Also, do you buy organic? Cheri -----Original Message----- I'm trying to find foods that I can eat and I'm trying to eat Quinoa and I like the taste enough, but it seems to upset my stomach every time I eat it, even with enzymes. Anyone else try it and have the same problem? .
Guest guest
Hi Cheri, no I didn't rinse it before cooking. That gives me some hope b/c I'm bumming that it is giving me trouble b/c I like it much better than the brown rice that I have been subsisting on and I know that I can't eat brown rice every day. I bought it at Earthfare where I'm buying most of this stuff and they carry lots of organic, but I can't say that I noticed when I bought it. If they don't have organic, we have another smaller place that will and I'll try some from there, and rinse it first. One more question about food? Is buckwheat (kasha) OK for a gluten-free diet? I grew up eating that too and I like it. I know that buckwheat isn't " wheat " per se. Thanks, > > I eat it all the time and do not have problems. Guest guest
, What kind of stomach upset do you notice? I just started rinsing mine recently and I noticed it cooks better and tastes better. Before I would sometimes get a bitter taste and originally thought it was the herbs I was adding. Turns out when I read the directions which I hadn't before, it said it has this coating and to rinse it. Now I rinse it thoroughly or even soak it sometimes overnight. Try it that way and if you still have problems you might just be allergic to quinoa...which would be unfortunate. You can still eat brown rice though as it is definitely one of the better grains and I eat brown rice pasta myself. Buckwheat is supposed to be gluten free. It is actually a grass not a wheat. However, some people do have allergies to it that mimic a gluten reaction. Cheri -----Original Message----- Hi Cheri, no I didn't rinse it before cooking. Guest guest
The typical GI upset stuff that I get - rumbling and a little pain in what feels like the center of my stomach but is probably lower than that in my intestine, cramping, gas later on. It is sort of a delayed reaction - takes like 30 minutes or so. I found a forum where people were posting about the same - rinsing or even soaking it overnight and people suffering from cramps and what-not. I'm going to buy some more tomorrow (organic) and soak it and then try again. I really like it so I hope that I can eat it. I guess that I should check out millet and I was reading a little about salba. > > , > What kind of stomach upset do you notice? Guest guest
Sounds like simple IBS from carb overload to me. sol jasrich wrote: > The typical GI upset stuff that I get - rumbling and a little pain in > what feels like the center of my stomach but is probably lower than > that in my intestine, cramping, gas later on.
