Hi Ken. I was on MTX for ten years and my hair was really thin and all

my eyebrows fell out. It took a while but my hair and eyebrows came

back.

Hi

I am on MTX and worried about thinning hair. I am a 54 year old male. Is

the thinning of hair reversible when you stop MTX?

Hi Ken:

When on MTX, your doc should have also prescribed 1 Gram Folic Acid taken daily

-- to ward off MXT side effects -- one of which is hair loss/thinning.  In

addition, you should also take the herb Milk Thistle (aka silymarin) to protect

your liver.  After I had increased my Milk Thistle intake from 525 mgs/day (175

mg 3 times/day) to 1,050 mgs/day (350 mgs 3 x/day) of standardized Milk Thistle,

my liver function (ALT) went from 42 (40 was upper most normal limit under the

testing method used by the lab I went to) to 23 -- and has been in the 23-28

range ever since. The Folic Acid involved a written prescription because it is

sold over the counter in micrograms (mcg) -- not milligrams (mg).  Hope this

helps.
