Guest guest
Actually, MINOCIN is the original brand of minocycline manufactured by Lederle. It is the " real McCoy " that everyone thinks works better than the generic minocycline. (I think I'm saying that right.) is just another pharmaceutical company that manufactures minocycline. If that isn't correct, someone please state it the correct way. Ellen rheumatic minocin Is brand of minocin working for anybody? Guest guest
Hi Delores, I am not sure about what is best for MS, perhaps someone on the list with some experience in this area can jump in. Brand name, non-generic, Minocin with the 2 colors of green and pelleted is what seems to work best for most people. I have RA and that is what I use. Guest guest
Thank you, I have been googling lots of info on M/S and it seems they are doing studies with Minocin and looking for people who have M/S. I am not fond of being the guinea pig, but that's exactly what I am doing on M/P. That isn't a recognized treatment for Scleroderma or R/A. At least not yet. But it works for me. Guest guest
Hi, You do not have to take Minocin on an empty stomach. It is tetracycline that has to be taken on an empty stomach, PLEASE eat before you take the minocin or you will probably have problems. I have almost never taken mine on an empty stomach. cooky -------------- Original message -------------- From: " vinnylid " <vinnylid@...> That is one of the recommended ways to take Minocycline. I take the other one an hour before bedtime. take with a full glass of water and take probiotics before meals. > > Hello everyone, > > I know I have been involved in a few discussions, but now I need to know more about Minocyclin. Dr. K. changed me from Biaxin to Minocyclin yesterday and I will be starting on Monday. > It states on the paper that you have to take the medicine on an empty stomach. Can I eat breakfast at 6:30 am first and then about 9 am I take the pill? I get very easy sick to my stomach and don't want a problems come now. > Thanks, stay well. > Eva > > > > >
Guest guest
Laurie, I've been on Minocin for seve months now and doing very well. I have severe RA, PsA, and Dermatomyositis. In January I could hardly walk because Enbrel, prednisone and some other medication I was taking caused a lot of havoc with my health. I was more in bed then up. Now I am getting my life back. It does take some time to get well even with Minocin and it is never a total cure, but the remission stays. I still have some problems but they are minor now to what they were. Guest guest
I've been using Minocycline very successfully and think everyone should try it before they go to the immune destructive drugs. It has been very successful in treating RA, but does not have a lot of history in PSA. My PsA attack started in Dec in both my hips and moved to both shoulders a month later. It is working off inflammation in my spinal column and flaring outward symmetrically. prednisone was the only thing that kept me functional. Methotrexate was of very little help. I started Minocycline on June 6 and improved very quickly. I am off prednisone and methotrexate. The only RX I take is Minocycline and the NSAID Diclofenac. I am back totally functional and playing golf again. I started the Minocycline at 100mg twice daily for 2 months and am now at 100mg M,W,F. You have to be very proactive to find a doctor that will use the Harvard Antibiotic Protocol " vinnylid " <vinnylid@...>
Guest guest
Herald, The chemical name of Minocin is minocycline hydrochloride and the generic versions of this drug are referred to as " Minocycline " . It does get confusing. In Canada, until a few years ago, the brand Minocin was powdered, not pelleted. I don't know if that version is still available in Canada or if pelleted Stiefel is the only product licensed to be manufactured as Brand Minocin. I prefer the pelleted version. Remember Lederle used to make a generic version that was identical to the brand, pellets and all? I'm wondering about the pelleted version, though maybe being easier absorbed, being really time release. Do you have some factual information on that or is it just that we always said so on this list? I'm thinking that if it is really time released we would have a much harder time replenishing our gut flora with probiotics. I'm going on the assumption that it is okay to take probiotics 2hrs after the Mino. That would be a faulty assumption if the Minocin is truly time release. We would need to know over what period the drug is active to manage gut flora. Any thoughts on that? Take care, Ute
Guest guest
Ute, Brand name Minocin manufactured by Stiefel in Canada is pelleted. I have never found information to indicate that pelleted Minocin is indeed time release, but it has been so described by our Group. Minocin MR, sold in England, is described as a " modified release capsule. " Solodyn minocycline HCl " Extended Release Tablets " are being marketed as an oral antibiotic to treat moderate to severe acne. Please see www.solodyn.htm The web page www.drugs.com/solodyn.html adds " Do not crush, chew, or break a Solodyn extended-release tablet. Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Breaking the pill would cause too much of the drug to be released at one time. Guest guest
Dan:  thanks. I appreciate your views / experience / treatment plans.  i'll discuss w/ my doc and see what he thinks.  Take care, From: electrician01@... <electrician01@...> Subject: Minocin Date: Saturday, February 13, 2010, 3:34 PM  When I was at Mayo they sent me to a nero from burning and tingling. I told him I had ReA even though 3 Mayo rheumys said I didn't. He called his rheumy friend at Mayo in Florida and asked him what the treatment for ReA was. He hung up the phone and said minocin 100mg 2x's a day. So at least one rheumy in the world does this treatment. If you try I would do minocin not mincycline. Your running out of options so if you try this I suggest you stick to it for some time. Allergies are usually blue gums. I asked a dr there how long a person can take it and he said they give it for up to 3 years. Good luck on what you decide. If you have Q post. Guest guest
Hi again, The Medicine Shoppe in Canada at this time are no longer getting Minocin Stiefel brand. They could not tell me if or when they will ever get it. They said the manufacturer is no longer shipping it to them. I called Universal Drug services at 1 866 456 2456 and they have it. They also sell it in smaller quantities like 30 caps.50 caps and up to 400 caps! I am so sorry to panic everyone but I needed a refill and when they said the manufacturer was no longer shipping it I thought anyone who may need a refill soon might want to order in case they are no longer making it. cooky
