Guest guest
Can low thyroid activity in an 89 year old woman whose hair isn't yet white (no pigment) cause " partial pigment loss " ? My grandmother had gold-yellow hair (when she was about 40-60 I guess), and I'm wondering if that could be another clue pointing to thyroid problems - along with short-term memory, but NOT dementia (she can still do grocery store math), and possibly hearing loss. I'm fighting a futile battle here with a father whose oblivious (to my thyroid problem, and would be downright hostile to a suggestion he might have one [high cholesterol, perhaps a type of depress/fatigue]), and a mother who ALSO won't get tested (also high chol., possibly fatigue, throat clearing [perhaps cortisol]), and who says about my grandmother " I think there are just some things you can't change " .. Yes, there are, but there are also things you *can* change - quite easily too.. All it takes is a damn simple $150 full thyroid panel, or a good clinician who knows what symptoms to look for (and WILL!). Arrghh, Jim
