Guest guest
My family doctor put me on Efexor for my anxiety and then my oncologist kept me on it. Talk with someone they will give you something to help with that, and it's ok. I will keep praying for you. Guest guest
Fear of the unknown is the worst. Once you get past your first chemo it will get better. Why not call the onc and tell him. I am sure he could give you something for the anxiety. I will keep you in my prayers. Guest guest
Have you talked to your doctor? They may be able to give you something to help you with the anxiety. I was very anxious yesterday, just going to the onc, basically because even though no one had said there was anything wrong with the tests I had, no one had let me know either. I'm hoping to start chemo this week and I'm sure, like you, I will be a basketcase. It's always the unknown that is the worst. Just don't be afraid to ask for help from your doctor. Guest guest
I think that everyone handles the chemo differently. At 56, I would take my chemo and go back to work. I would feel a little nauseous for a few days and that was about it. Really disappointed that I didn't at least lose a little bit of weight. I am completely at one end of the scale. Most dont do that well but there are others that do. It is so hard going through all the waiting. Just take it one day ate time and yes, things will get better Patty -----Original Message-----From: breastcancer2 [mailto:breastcancer2 ]On Behalf Of ASK ME I MIGHT TELL YA!!!!1Sent: Tuesday, April 25, 2006 8:12 AMTo: breastcancer2 Subject: ANXIETYi am having severe anxiety i guess not knowing what to exept thurs it is my 1st chemo, and what to expect afterwards, will i be sick, bald, pain, etc ?will this anxiety ever ease? Guest guest
The anxiety is almost the worst thing. Once you get started the anxiety will ease. Chemo affects everyone differently, and I don't think the bad things ever happen all to the same person. This is how I found it: During the chemo it's not bad at all, and I had no nausea or sickness at all, or swollen joints. A few days later I had dreadful tiredness, with various aches and pains depending on which drug I was on at the time. The doxorubicin (Caelyx) made my skin peel off my hands and feet - that went away a week after I stopped that drug. The paclitaxel (Taxol) made all my hair fall out about 3 weeks after I started on that one; my hair is back now - it started back a few weeks after I stopped the Taxol. Oh, and they all gave me constipation - now I take a laxative (Lactulose) starting two days before each treatment. We're all with you on Thursday - shut your eyes and look around you! Love and hugs, Margery. ============================================ margery@... in North Herts, UK ============================================ From: breastcancer2 [mailto:breastcancer2 ] On Behalf Of ASK ME I MIGHT TELL YA!!!!1Sent: 25 April 2006 14:12To: breastcancer2 Subject: ANXIETY i am having severe anxiety i guess not knowing what to exept thurs it is my 1st chemo, and what to expect afterwards, will i be sick, bald, pain, etc ?will this anxiety ever ease? Guest guest
You will be sick, you will feel a rusty taste in your mouth, you will be piss+d, tired, bald in a while, and your world will became black and white. BUT WHAT HAS BEGUN, IT RUN TO AN END, and after ...YOU WILL BE NEW and ALIVE. You see, you learn one major thing during chemo, that life is so good. Then you learn another major thing, that you should love yourself more. Then you learn to take one day at a time. Then you learn to say "NO" when it is the case. To me it was a pretty good deal. The onco gave me xanax for anxiety, it worked great. I am sending hugs in your way. Remember, we walk together. Keep the list posted, please. Guest guest
I am starting chemo tomorrow too, I was so anxious this morning, my hands were actually shaking. My husband (who left me the week of diagnosis for another woman) hung up on me today when I said I was angry that I had to go through this alone. (He had called to see how I was doing). At that point I was furious. I took a .5 mg xanax. It really helped. I set it up so that my mother, who has colon cancer and I can have our chemo at the same time (nothing like multi-tasking). I figure if my 82 year old mother can do this, I can't act like a baby in front of her (I 'm the one whos been telling her she can do it for the past year). Hope it works out okay. Thanks for listening. Good luck to everyone starting this week! DianneBarb Roy wrote: Have you talked to your doctor? They may be able to give you something to help you with the anxiety. Guest guest
Dianne, You sure have your hands full with both your Mom and you. Its normal to be scared. Once you get through this treatment it will get better. I will keep you both in my prayers. Guest guest
Dianne, Sorry to hear you are so stressed. I'm so sorry you have to go this alone. I think setting things up at the same time as your mother is an excellent idea. You'll have each other for support. I do have my husband for support, he's been great, but unfortunately I don't have my mother. She has Alzheimers and I didn't think telling her would be for her benefit. I really miss having her to talk to about things like this. Sounds like there are several of us starting chemo tomorrow. Will be interesting to hear our reactions and how each of us are doing. Keep your chin up. We'll make it through our treatments and be much stronger for it.
