Guest guest
Hi Belinda, I read both of your emails and I just knew you were talking to me with the first one. The way you described your activities reminds me of when I lived in New York City and there was always something to do and somewhere to go. I will be 75 soon. Six years ago, I was diagnosed with systemic scleroderma. I was so sick, I literally couldn't get up or open a door if I managed to get to the bathroom alone. It was hell. Pulmonary fibrosis made it so difficult to walk especially in winter that it felt like someone was stabbing me in the heart with each breath. Docs told me to move south. The complication is that my mom was 95 and also deteriorating and eventually, we all moved to Puerto Rico together.  At first I was busy taking care of her. She passed in Oct. I rearranged the house. That kept me busy. The kids came for Christmas and that kept me busy. Then I had my eyes examined and the othalmologist decided that he would do a minor adjustment in one eye that he said would be a nothing surgery. I have lost the sight in that eye.  I ran out of my medication around that time also. And had to fight for that as I could feel that I was losing my remission, I had worked so hard to achieve.I tried going back to my hobbies which is writing, painting and making costume jewelry, but because I lost the sight in my right eye, I could no longer do that. And for a while we didn't have a car as the old one died. We since bought a new one which has stretched the budget. My only outings became doctor appointments and I saw nothing changing for the better, so I cancelled them all and went into my funk. I lost the fight in me. You are right about the C-Pap machine, but that means another fight with the Insurance company and another visit to the docor and I don't want to get out of bed to do either. But your e:mail has planted the seed in my head and that is what I will do next.  I do go for physical therapy twice a week for a fall on my spine that ocurred when the rope on my hammock broke. That was a year ago and the damage, I am afraid may be permanent, but I go because the massage feels good. I am now making plans to go back to New York and stay with friends while I get my eyes fixed. While there, I plan to look for another apt. as I miss the hustle and bustle of the city especially in summer & fall. If all goes well, we plan to spend 6 months a year in P.R during winter & spring and 6 months in NY during summer & fall. i have lots of friends in NY and none in Puerto Rico and I am a very sociable character and need that stimulation. I know this funk is temporary and if I can get my eyes fixed, there are a million more things I could do in New York than I could do in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is a great place to vacation or spend a winter,  but don't get sick here. The health care is atrocious.  Thanks for all the ideas, I appreciate it and before long, I will be back on my feet. Preparing to leave for NY in June and just waiting on the doctors appointment & plans  We plan to go back to my former docs at NYU. I trust them. I plan to spend my 75th birthday celebrating with my friends. Can't wait. Meanwhile I am snoozing my way back to full remmission again . Dolores & Mike   From: belinda pomerleau <Bindylp@...> Subject: Re: rheumatic Re: Wyeth brand Minocin rheumatic Date: Sunday, April 3, 2011, 3:03 AM  hey Dolores I use a c pap machine. If I dont use it i am totally exhausted in the am. I literally stop breathing a couple of times a night. I am sure the tubing is not that expensive. I suggest you get some and get back on that cpap machine. You risk a heart attack. thanks belinda __________________________________________________________ Groupon.com Official Site 1 huge daily deal on the best stuff to do in your city.
