<< The hospital is approx $13,000 >>

And Dr. R has negotiated a 20% discount for self-pays on the hospital

charges. He posted that to the list and website about a month ago.

Dee,

Your posts are always so good. I hope I'm good w/numbers I run a mortgage,

closing and title company. BTW, if anyone ever wants to know the ins and

outs of refinancing in order to self-pay I would be happy to share. For

someone in a taxable situation it could really pay off because the mortgage

interest should be a write off as well as the medical expense itself. I

always love " double-dipping " if possible. (Think that attitude had anything

to do w/my obesity? lol).

I'm glad you're doing so well. I think you especially are a testimony to the

MGB, Dr. R and WLS, since you were not a textbook case and you're still doing

so well and are obviously so pleased.

Have a great day!

Sincerely,

na

I am just beginning. I have submitted my papers for the insurance

approval and I have read the patient manual.

I am very interested in having the surgery done myself but have no insurance

either. How do I go about getting it done as a self pay? How much did you

have to pay upfront and how much a month?

<< How do I go about getting it done as a self pay? How much did you

Ladona: Dr. R is about $4200, less 20% for self-pay. Durham Regional is

about $11,000, less 20% for self-pay. The " sleepy time " docs are about

$1000, no discount for self-pay. The total is around $17,000, less the two

20% discounts from Dr. R and the hospital. You make arrangements prior to

surgery with Dr. R and the hospital admitting office. Dee in MI.

I'm not sure who wrote this but I'd like to know if this means that you get

billed afterwards? I though everything had to be paid up front if you are a

self pay. If that's not the case then this gives me hope that I won't have

to wait a year to have the surgery if the insurance falls through for me.

Anyone???

Here's another one. Am I missing something. Are there monthly payments

available? Someone please tell me. I'll schedule this thing tomorrow if

this is the case!

Lynda,

Did you not have to pay up front? I thought this was required. Any ideas

you have or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ann

Ladona,

I have health insurance but they say it is not covered. I have not gotten

an official denial yet. I am not sure what I will do. I HAVE to have this

surgery no matter what I have to do.

Hi Ya'll,

I just got home from my 1st clinic.

There were lots of people there.....which is good...it gave us people to talk

to while we waited to be called in to talk to Dr. R.

The videos are MUCH better than online.

I have a question. Has anyone else had abnormal liver function tests before

surgery. I do and I will have to see a specialist before the good doctor

will perform MGB for me. He said he doesn't want to kill me.....isn't that

sweet? :):):) LOLOL. Any info would be appreciated.

Dee, and the group:

I am glad that you have put the total cost out for me. I sometimes feel

that I am given just part of the whole picture. I received my first denial

letter from my insurance company today. That was fast. I knew they would

deny this but the official letter cut through me like a knife.

Last night I gathered all my good jewelry and appraisals together. I figured

I don't wear it anymore, why not sell it to fund the surgery? What a waste

of time. Jewelers only pay 10% of what it is worth. Makes me wonder where

thieves get their money from jewelry. Maybe I don't want to know.

I am going on as if I have the money. Everything will work out. I will come

up with some other brilliant idea. I did think of selling my Prozac on the

streets but quickly dismissed that!
