Guest guest
Sue, I borrowed the money from my father in law and I will pay it back. I am sueing my insurance company for discrimination and a lot of other stuff they have done to me that is not fair. First they sent me to St Louis to see an obesity specialist that insisted I take Xenical, which nearly killed me. I told them that I can't take very many drugs like that as my intestinal tract is touchy. Then they told me if I could find a doc that would refer me then they would make a determination. Well, I did that and I have everything in writing from them. My lawyer has it all now and we will be going to court. So don't let anything stop you girl. Just hang in there. Borrow the money if you have to or whatever. Then you can recoup and get a good lawyer and sue the insurance company also. We can't let them get away with this kind of treatment to heavy people. We each need to make up our own mind as to whether or not we want the surgery or do not. It is as simple as that. So now you have it. My humble opinion!!! in Missouri
Guest guest
Thanks to all of you that were kind enough to respond to my questions about the costs. I have a much better understanding of how it works now.

Guest guest
>>>>>>>>Yes, hospital wanted 11000 up front(cost is 13000 minus cash discount) anesthesia wanted at least 600 up front(was told the charge would normally be between 900-1000-barring complications) Dr. R wanted 2000 up front, rest payable after. Hotel was 340 plus for the 6 days in NC, auto rental was 140, airline ticket was 730, perscriptions for after was 270(I only had some of them filled) taxi ride to hotel was 35, my daughter spent 200---I have no idea on what ;-) My toll calls to Debbie for the month prior to the surgery was 100-spent alot of time on hold. I have not received the final bill from the hospital, so the 11000 might or might not be the final bill(I should get some back-I only spent 1 day ) The 960 is the final bill from the anesthesia. Wow, when you put all the totals down like this it seems like so much money....but I have to be honest with you, this is the best thing that I have ever done for myself. I just wish I had done this sooner. Health wise, the only med that I am taking now is my inhaller--I have not had the motrin, clairton, sleep tabs etc since the MGB.......I am sleeping through the night for the first time in 4 years, I am not taking the pain meds that I have been taking for the last 15 years. I have lost 15 pounds so far, and I don't seem to get hungry too often. Today I have had a yogurt, an egg, and some oatmeal(and I'm very full--just had the oatmeal) Lynda Pitsburgcoon Maine Coons Pittsburgh, PA Ann Ledbetter wrote: > > > Lynda, > > Did you not have to pay up front? Guest guest
Does anyone know if there's any comparative or statistical information on surgery costs (assuming one will have to bear the entire costs out of personal pocket) anywhere on the internet. It seems likely someone will have done this research already. I hate reinventing the wheel. I'm assuming it will cost less if you go into it knowing the neither insruance nor socialized medicine nor rich uncle will pay anything than if one goes in thinking insurance will pick up the tab and then discovering later that it will not. huggles, Holly
