Guest guest
, Trim means to delete all old and irrelevant posts from the bottom of your reply before hitting Send. It is usually pertinent to leave only the most recent post that you are actually responding to and delete all previous posts. Of course if everybody could actually do the right thing (fat chance!) we would all only ever have to delete one previous post, although there are times when it is relevant to leave more than one previous post if your reply actually references another earlier post too. People who are thoughtless/uncaring/lazy and who don't do the right thing once they become aware of it cause problems in particular for those who receive their low dose naltrexone emails in the form of a digest (not me!) because those poor people have to often scroll through pages and pages of stuff repeated again and again and again and ............... It also makes the search facility far less useful than it should be because every repeated post count as a hit. Therefore you can do a search on something and come up with plenty of hits so think to yourself " Great, lots of useful reading! " only to find that the majority of the hits are just the same posts repeated again and again and again and ......... In some searches I've done I've found the same post repeated at least a DOZEN times!! Very frustrating....... :-( rachelraneri wrote: > Jan, will you please explain what you mean to " trim " ? >
Guest guest
lind. thank you for bringing up what I have found to be very distracting. I, too, am overwhelmed by the volume of these posts and it took me a while to figure out that when someone responded...the remainder of the post was repeated. I will second lind's request. And it may have to be posted weekly to reach the new members. When you respond via Web Post, please delete all the text that is in the text box where you type your response. I think it will make this group much more effective and easier on those of us who are not functioning mentally as well as we would like. Thank you. Guest guest
Hello lind, please, by no way did you upset me (little bothers me, as my RA puts other life things in perspective for me!) I guess I don't understand the repeats, or scrolling. I just read the emails I get, answer or delete. And I certainly understand the finger and wrist pain....that's why my replies are short, and most of the time I don't even do spell check. The blessing of this group, among others, is people are free to reply with what they think or feel. no apology's from anyone necessary. I don't think there is a moderator to this group?? But much more important to me lind: Are you in remission? Do you have your life back? I don't and I am always wanting to hear, and celebrate, for those that do. Must admit, it makes me cry when I read about other people having their life back from these cruel diseases (much from wondering " when is it my turn " ) and yet more hope than I have had in my 4 yrs with RA. We all share our journey with our illnesses, and yet how lovely when emails come from individuals sharing their passions they have in their lives! and Many Blessings to you! Sally rheumatic Trim posts please Hi Sally Yes, yes, that's what this group is for! It is so encouraging for me too. I don't know what I'd do without it. But it's when each new post has four to ten old posts attached, and sometimes that happens ten times! I wasn't meaning at all not to post or not to attach the most relevant posts, but just not all ten previous ones that we've already read several times. If you're not sure what I mean by " trimming posts " I'll be really happy to explain more. Just ask anything you want. The people with limited download space and dial-up time use up much of that space receiving emails with five new posts but fifty or so old repeated ones, the same ones over and over again. And those of us with fingers that are very painful find it harder to keep scrolling through long long digests than the shorter ones. I'm sorry if I was unclear in my original request. I didn't mean to make you upset at all. I too was a newbie four years ago and have never stopped being grateful for this list and the wonderful people on it. You're in the right place to get support, encouragement and information, and you don't have to feel alone with this awful disease any more. Thank you Sally for contributing. Many blessings, lind

Guest guest
Eva, When you click on " Reply via Webposts " you are taken to a page where you can type in your message. In that box, before you start typing are the previous messages that are causing the issues for some of us. If everyone could highlight the existing text, delete it, then type your own words, it would trim the length of the daily thread many of us receive by email. We are not asking you to edit what you have to say, just delete what is in the text box that is being repeated and type what you have to say. Thank you. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Thank you for the explanation. I didn't know how to trim it either. Dolores From: Amy <muttville@...> Subject: rheumatic Re: Trim posts please rheumatic Date: Tuesday, October 26, 2010, 9:20 AM  Eva, When you click on " Reply via Webposts " you are taken to a page where you can type in your message. Guest guest
Hi Eva I'm assuming that you're replying via the messages web page. When the box comes up to type your message in it will have the previous message in it. The message you wrote had your most recent plus about four or five others below it. I selected (highlighted) and deleted all the messages below your latest message - you should see yours underneath this one. Then I go back to the top and type my reply. You could also type first and then delete the " below " messages afterwards. It's a bit of a scroll to delete if there are many below, but that's the way you do it. If you reply some other way (we all have different computers and email servers) please ask again. Thanks for your interest.
