Guest guest
Hello everyone, My doctor wants me to start Minocin and I have tested positive for Candida. He has ordered both Minocin and Nystatin to be taken at the same time. I really question this approach. I think I should take the Nystatin for a period of time until the yeast gets better. Has anyone experienced the same conundrum? What approach did your doctor take? I know the Minocin will work for dermatomyositis, I used it before. Right now, I am suffering from a horrible yeast infection that causes a terrible scalp rash; I don't want to make this rash worse. It is unbearable already. Your thoughts and experiences would be appreciated. Thanks for letting me be a part of this group! Suzanne
Guest guest
Suzanne, It is not unusual to take an antibiotic and an antifungal at the same time. Because the antibiotics kill off our gut flora (as well as the targeted bacteria that are causing us problems) yeast has the opportunity to move in and fill the void from the bacteria that have died off. Our friendly bacteria generally keep yeast in check until we disrupt that balance by killing off the natural flora. So don't be concerned about your doctor prescribing both. This is standard procedure, and a smart one. Amy
